Morning, loungers.

Maybe you're thinking about this the wrong way.

About 50 or so years back I rode my scoot from Long Beach, CA to visit cousins in the Phoenix area. They had me park in the kitchen as there was a "bit" of theft in the area at the time.. Linoleum is better than hard wood :)

It was kind of 'free'. Bought it with the cash back rewards from using our Costco CC.

Usually just use ours for the membership fee. And usually some cash back.

That one is not on my bucket list.

I did an awful job of washing my truck and car yesterday but at least they look better. Those darn squirrels eating their hickory nuts in the tree. Those little pieces of shell left awful stains on the paint. By the time I got them all off of the hood, my shoulders were hurting so bad that I could not get the top of the truck. Not sure if a car wash would take them off but it might not hurt to try. I hate the truck not staying in the garage like it always has but I kicked it out and now have a car and 3 motorcycles in there. One of the mc's sits outside because there is no more room. I need less space in the house and more in the garage.
We have a friend who actually has his motorcycle in his living room. He built a wooden "tray" to park it on. Looks kinda neat in there.

While house hunting we noticed that the "2 car garage" description was actually the minimum dimensions to call them that. Guess it is a 2-car if the cars are those little Smart cars or VW bugs or a Miata. At this house both our cars are parked outside - we need a 2nd garage.
Quite a haul there .. was a 2nd mortgage required .. ?? ;)
We actually get 2 checks from Costco once a year. One is cash back on the cc and the other is a % of items purchased from the store. We had some big ticket repair expenses I put on the cc first knowing that I'd pay it off with savings earmarked for that project. When those checks showed up I did the happy dance because I knew the $265 was going to be used for meat. We're probably not going to need to buy any more meat for many months.

This roofing situation has been a fiasco. Home Depot was supposed to deliver the shingles by 12:30 on Tues. When they didn't show up our contractor kept calling them and kept being told it would be delivered in an hour. The crew had worked feverishly in this heat to get the existing shingles off to be ready for the delivery so they spent the rest of the day lounging under the tree waiting. By 5:30 nobody was answering the phone so by 6:30 the crew left.

Wed. morning a flat bed truck arrived to deliver 1 pkg of the roofing material and 1 pkg of trim. WTH! More phone calls to find shingles. Yes, they have enough from another Home Depot but we'd have to go to the original Home Depot and cancel the order. The refund will take 5 business days. Then re-order the shingles from another Home Depot and schedule a delivery from there! Meanwhile $10k of our money would be tied up and we're supposed to pray for no rain until they can deliver??? No way! Our contractor is from Delaware and has never run into this problem there.

Finally, he found enough shingles at a Home Depot 45 minutes away. They told him they'd have his 90 bundles of shingles in a rental truck ready for us to pick them up. So, we had to drive there, drive the rental truck back to our house, unload the shingles and then drive back to return the truck and get my car. I'm supposed to be happy that they didn't charge me for the truck rental. What a mess.

There was only enough time to do the front of the house yesterday before the crew left at 7:30. Today they'll be back to finish the back of the house. Looks like I'll be making another trip to the store to pick up more Gatorade so nobody passes out from the heat.

Morning, all.

Still nice here, and they're still talking about 80 for ONLY Saturday and Sunday. No more rain for a while, so the hoses won't get lonely.

Yeah, a mess. At least you did finally get the shingles. Before any rain!

Too bad you could not get them at Costco .. what a cash back ..

I know it's not funny ..
Hadn't thought of that, but Costco sells everything it seems so maybe we should have checked that out. Or maybe he did, but they didn't have all the items he needed to order. It's usually better to get everything in one place so it's one delivery and done. That's the way HD has always worked it with him at the DE store. He ordered it online according to our zip code and it turns out they route the order to whichever store they want.

Mike went to our local Home Depot today with the list of supplies ordered. There will be a couple items that will need to be returned, but we were told on the phone yesterday they'd have to be retuned to the store where the order was placed. Our Home Depot told Mike we were told a load of ____. Yes, our contractor definitely can take back the items to the closest HD. Looks like we didn't have to make those 45 minute trips yesterday after all. Oye!

I ran across a 3 ingredient peanut butter cookie recipe that I found hard to believe so I just had to make a batch this morning. WOW! Delicious. About 20 minutes from start to pulling them out of the oven. Of course a 2nd batch had to be made immediately.

1 C peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
1 C sugar
1 egg.

Mix with a spoon or mixer. Make golf ball size balls of dough, put them on an uncreased cookie sheet (I used parchment paper) and make a cross hatch design with a fork to flatten the balls to almost 1/2" thickness. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes. Makes about 18 cookies.

Delicious!!

It's F R I D A Y! It has been another fast week and a week where I did not get much done around the house.

I did get my teeth cleaned. For years, I have gone to a college to let the students clean my teeth. I think it is wonderful for them to practice on real people and I love it because it is so cheap. I had x-rays this time and it cost me a whopping $3.50. Of course, the downside is it takes so darn long to get it done. I was in the chair 3 hours and 45 minutes yesterday and I have to go back next week to finish up. It will not take long this time because all that was left was polishing my teeth. I do not understand why they could not finish but it is what it is. I do love getting clean teeth. I had one place that their dentist suggested I have looked at by my personal dentist. It is not a cavity but a soft place. Whatever.

Bought some thin-cut meat yesterday. I asked Perry if I could make some jerky. The meat place I went to did not have London Broil (like Perry uses) but I got Eye of Round and it looks like it will be fine. So after I get to Perry's house, I am going to dehydrate 9 lbs of meat. He has a big machine but it will still take 2 times. Boy is his house going to be smelling some kind of good.

What has everyone got planned for this Labor Day weekend? I just realized it was Labor Day yesterday.

I haven't though about that but I really don't need my formal dining room or living room. I could free up a lot of space in my garage. heehee
We're probably not going to need to buy any more meat for many months.
Isn't that wonderful? Perry has 3 freezers so he buys a whole side of beef at a time along with a bunch of deer meat. One of his freezers looks nicer than any grocery store I've seen. That is on Perry's "pro" list. heehee

Oh gosh, I have made those and loved them also. I couldn't believe they were so good. When I was in 3rd grade, the days they had peanut butter cookies were my favorite. Those were the best I had ever had (until this easy recipe). Darn you! Now I'm thinking about those cookies. heehee

Hey Rat ... I could have used some help this week. You like outside chores. While the roof debris only filled a 1/3 of the gi-hughic dumpster we rented so I spent two afternoons clearing out the woods behind the house. The previous owner left 5 different 'waste' piles of branches and twigs. I wasn't going to let the dumpster go back 1/2 empty so even though the temps were in the high 90's I toughed it out and cleaned up the mess left behind.

Geez, am I the only person who didn't know about these cookies? Somebody else said this sounds like the "Blossom" recipe she used to make. I just didn't know there were cookies that didn't use at least some flour in it, but these definitely work.

Tomorrow we're going to our friends house for a Labor Day party. It'll be our old crowd from high school that we've kept in touch with all these years. I made some canoli dip and will bake off some breaded ham and cheese balls from BJ's. Always good food at our get togethers so there goes our diets again.

I usually have a glass of wine while getting dinner together, but since I only had 2 bottles in the fridge that I'm planning to take to the party tomorrow I decided to make a gin and tonic instead. Haven't made one all summer and boy did it taste good. Problem was I only drank 1/2 and had to set it down! Geese louise, I really have turned into a cheap date! At least I didn't burn dinner - gotta be sober to do that I guess.

It's been a crazy week so I'm finally catching up.

@Janet H I didn't know about those cookies and now the husband wants some. With my currently crazy schedule he may get them for his birthday in December

I don't have kind words for the mess you had with HD for your roof. I'm tired for @MikeE3 just thinking about cleaning up those piles, but points to him for taking advantage of the dumpster space. It has to be nice to have that done!

@Rat2chat2 I hope you can make it to Boston in September. That's usually a nice time up here. This summer was strange - July was hot like August and August has been more like September. September is usually cool in the morning and comfortable by day. Very nice, but no guesses on what it will be like this year.

Work is crazy, our company has been sold as of Sept. 3rd. Overall, that's a good thing but the transition planning is taking a lot of my time. The new owners know I want to retire, we just haven't had the conversation about exactly when. If they have someone already lined up, awesome - that's what I'd recommend for my position. If they haven't planned it yet, I need to give them a kick to get it done. September will be an interesting month.

Good morning to whoever is up. Our cat Maggie let me sleep till 6:00 this morning. She usually wakes me up by walking across my face to get to the bedside table so she can look outside. Then between her meowing with her face 1/2" away from my face with her whiskers tickling me there's no going back to sleep for me.

According to the weather report it's supposed to be partly cloudy and 83 today so it'll be a good day for a party on our friend's large deck. It'll be so good to see everybody.

My poor garden looks so sad. The tomato and cucumber plants are sprawled all over. I cut half of them away, but there's still a lot to go. We definitely need some better vertical support next year for those plants to make room to do a second planting of radishes, lettuce and onions.

@WhiteHighlights Your husband could make those cookies! You don't even need a mixer, but it does make it easier. He could just use a sturdy spoon. The hardest part is measuring the cup of peanut butter, or maybe it's having to wait for them to cool on the cookie sheet. Don't even need to do the crosshatch to squish the dough balls, just flatten them down however. I have one of those scoops that pushes the dough out when you squeeze the handle to make the balls, but it's not necessary.

My sympathies to you for dealing with the transition at work. That's always a huge headache for everyone. Maybe you should pick a retirement date so they're not tempted to drag their feet. You both need a deadline. Then you can look forward to going home and turning off your alarm clock.
