I have traced my maternal grandfather's family, back to Acadia, (Nova Scotia) around 1700. I hit a dead end on my paternal great-grandfather, at 1860 Quebec, but I have found relatives on my paternal grandmother's side, going back to around 1650 Quebec. Europe should be hard, especially since all of my ancestors were in North America, around 1700.

I got lucky on part of my dad's. Was on Ancestry and found a family member in Sweden who still owns the home from when his family left there. He knew a lot of the history and was able to put me in contact with others who knew more of it. I still talk to him on fb from time to time.

Europe keeps pretty good records in their churches. If you know the area you might find help there. Turned out my Gma on dad's side was the daughter of a (woman who was pregnant when not wed) and when I started searching there his mother married a man who had a thing for marrying women who already had a child. He married 3 of them, each of them died after having a couple of his... guess it was odd enough even his descendants got to wondering about it and wrote a big history of it... definately odd!

I used to help people, but there's not much that I can help them with, now. I settled with cartomizers and simple mods a while ago. Never used a tank or a VV and truthfully, I'm not interested in using them, either.

I've settled on vamo and IBTanked for most. I use an ego and an eternity for dripping. That is all I use anymore. I'm happy with it that way. :)

Very odd.

When I was active in ham radio, I talked to a guy in France and he told me that all the records, before 1700 were destroyed in a fire. That leaves me a dead end, as far as the French side of my family, but I still could research the English and Scottish side, for my Scottish ancestor.

I wouldn't think the records in the whole of France would be destroyed. Perhaps in certain towns but surely not the entire country? Also a consideration, DH's family is from the Alsace region which is France now but has been back and forth between France and Germany several times as it is on the border so that might open a door some how if you have such a situation?

I use an eVic with the simple head and an eGo-T upgrade. Both use the 18650 battery. I don't think that the eGo-T upgrade is available anymore. I have seen the eGo-T, but it's a non-replaceable battery.

Good point. My French ancestors came from the Burgundy region of France, but there is a village southeast of Paris, that bears a version (spelling) of my family name. I would still like to find out more about my great-grandfather, before I search in Europe. I know the name of the first settler with my name who came to Canada in the mid 1600s, but there's a huge gap, between him and my great-grandfather.

It's nice to have settled on a combination you like. I enjoy mine, I understand them and their limitations, prices are reasonable so I have 6 vamo/IBT set ups and 5 ego/eternity set ups in use. I have 5 spare eternity because there was a sale that couldn't be denied and cartos to last about a year so I'm good for a while. I have a few vendor juices I like (all AIV) and other than that I mix my own so I don't think I've spent anything on vape for about 3 months which is nice too.

DH's German ancestor spelled it Allwein, it was changed by some family to Alwine, then later yet changed to Alwin. Pronounced all-win in US but in Germany they say it Alvin so spelling can be a challenge also!

I would be on their being records pre 1700 in Burgundy in several places. If you can pin down a location there are people out there that will help you out.

I also use a site that has pics and inscriptions for cemeteries all over the US. I haven't tried it for any other country but it has given me lots of info on some of the people I was working on. Let me see if I can find it for you...

Find A Grave - Millions of Cemetery Records This may help you at some point.

With what's going on with the FDA, it's good to be stocked up. A lot of vapers have been contacting their politicians and getting responses about protecting the people and think of the children. I know that my politicians are ANTZ, so I haven't even bothered contacting them.

Well some of it is stock piling we have quite a lot. More than that DH is a bit of a hoarder and likes to have lots on hand. I think I could go a couple of years at the least on nic. I contacted the politicians and received the nice reply that means, I've written you a letter that really means nothing because if it will help me I will destroy you and smile doing it... I've gone through the same thing with them over the VA in the past. They write nice letters then they stab you in the back. But I did my part for what little good it will do. I do sound a bit of a cynic don't I...

Darn thing just quit letting me have "quotes"...

Welsh and Dale, Bruce will share his m&ms with you. He shares good. Has a big jar of each kind sitting right beside his vape box and computer. :) He bought 3 boxes of moonpies to share with the grand girls, had to share his childhood with them you know! :)

We took them to his home when he was growing up. MIL had to move to town about 10 years ago when FIL got too bad for her to take care of out there. They went to the cemetery with us to put flowers on the graves. They were amazed we knew where to find "all the people that died." Poor babies don't know about my genealogy bug yet... I can trace my Gma to the 1400s, Gpa to Mac Alpin in 836, dad's side I'm still working on can only take it back to 1793 on Gma's side and 1737 on Gpa's. I'm still working on DH's side... have 1719 on his dad's and 1809 on his mom's. LOL, poor babies have no idea! View attachment 360794

LOL I love genealogy. I've got one line traced back to the 1100's but I haven't done anything in over a year. The most famous relative is King Edward "Longshanks" both of my mothers lines and one of my fathers lines traces back to 3 of his daughters. So he is a 3 time Gpa. :) I could talk hours about genealogy so I completely understand. ;)

Thanks again, Balwin. I will have to check that out. Except for some Cajun relatives, my family was in Canada, until the early 1890s.
I bookmarked that site, that you just gave me.

I lucked out and found the name of siblings on a 3 great grandma's stone so was able to use it to locate some census that they had mis-spelled her name on. Never know when it will help you out.

I've never dealt with any Canadian records. Do they have good census or access to some other form that is good?
