A cast iron skillet is a southern staple :)
A pan made of cast (poured) iron.
I believe a lot of anemia is due to the lack of a cast iron skillet.
I agree completely!!

..I'm not sure if that's a serious thought but it made me laugh regardless.

No, it's true, you get a tiny bit of iron transfer to your food when cooking. :D

Me too! Guess I'll have to settle for some good ole Oreo cookie ice cream tonite though:)

Yup that's it :)
Make sure it's pristine. Clean with a little lemon juice and salt right before you whisk them.

Ok. Will do. I'm writing this down. My oldest sister & I have been trying to figure this out forever. My grandmother was able to do it in just a glass bowl. We gave up after several failed attempts over the years. Eventually GM would come & take the bowl from us. Hehehe! I loved sitting in the kitchen when I was little & just watching her cook.

That's why I said it :sneaky:

Yup! :)

You bad bad MD you:lol:

100% My dad's mom's lard bucket looked NASTY....but her food was SURE good!! I remember asking my mom about it and she said that compared to Crisco, which is what she was using to fry chicken, she said yes, it looked nasty, but she said they may have looked nasty, but there was an art to a good bucket of lard.

I wish I had one too. I think mom sold hers on a rummage sale, and we never knew it. She might have offered it, but I don't remember...maybe my sister has it...just not sure.

I thought you might ask what lard was.

Did she have one of those mixers the you cranked??? Those were something!!

It looked nasty but it sure made for some good cookin!
Yep she did! She lived with us growing up so my mom still has her cast iron skillets & the mixers.
I have her favorite coffee cup set though. It's nothing fancy & really old for sure. I don't use them much. I'm not clumsy but I would be broken hearted if I were to break them. Mom says I should use them though.

    Awwwh! (((((HUGS)))))
My grandmother wasn't able to cook as much the last 2 years of her life & you could tell she missed it.
I was away at school in Michigan & every time I called or came for a visit she'd tell me she was going to fix my banana pudding:)
My GM was a tough woman but it was tough seeing her not be able to do what she loved to do. Before she cooked nearly everyday. And I won't even get into what the Alzheimer's did to her taste buds. She'd have a craving for something, eat it but of course it didn't taste right. She couldn't even enjoy her meals. Makes me sad to think about it.
