I quit like 5 times and started again, mostly due to stressful situations. finally i decided to try ecigs and once i did, i never smoked another real cigarette again. (since february).

Yay, me too. It was mid-Feb when I bought my first kit, Vapor Coutoure. I used to smoke Virginia Slims and these were pretty close. I still used them now and then. They're pretty.

and rhonda....where are you?????????

This is SO not like her.....should I try and stalk her on FB and send a message that way? I bet I can find her page, if she has one.

Oh, and Deej, I "liked" your FB page :)

check back a page, she posted...

Jerry, so funny (well not funny, but you know what I mean) you said that it was the "adult" thing to do, I remember asking my mom why she started, and she said, "Well, you just did, everyone did".

I think it's great. We've all had different paths, and varying degrees of success quitting, but I think that the fact that we're all here (on ECF) greatly increases our chances of quitting for good, and never going back to the stinkies.

Oh Rhonda, feel better soon!! (((HUGS)))

Completely agree with that last sentence! Each of us just needs to do what is best for ourselves, that's why I don't push me views on veganism etc. on anyone. I'm more than happy to talk about anything if asked though.

We are all different, we want and need different things in our lives.

To paraphrase my sentiments on the subject:

hi again everybody :)

my turn to answer kayte's questions.....

1. my parental units put me in psychiatric treatment when i was 15 (go figure) and while i was there, EVERYBODY smoked. so i had to in order to fit in. after that, i never smoked all that much, maybe a half to 3/4 pack a day. i smoked more during my college days and a few years after when i drank a lot.

2. i got all health conscious when i was in my mid 30s, started running and biking a lot....but still couldn't stop smoking. finally i got tired or coughing and being out of breath, so i quit. but it didn't work. i quit like 5 times and started again, mostly due to stressful situations. finally i decided to try ecigs and once i did, i never smoked another real cigarette again. (since february).

i am very proud of all of you for quitting.

and rhonda....where are you?????????

Good morning, ladies and gents. :)

Ok onward to Kayte's questions.

Everyone smoked back then, it was the "adult" thing to do. I was just a kid (14), but I wanted to be an adult.

I hadn't planned on quitting smoking, I just wanted to cut down a bit, because of the cost. I thought that e-cigs were just a gimmick, but I figured that they might help me cut down on my smoking. For two months, I smoked and vaped, but then I couldn't stand the taste or smell of cigarettes anymore, so I stopped smoking. I could have continued smoking a pipe, but I knew that quitting everything was the best for my health, so I gave it all up.
Good morning Jerry. :)
I don't know why kids want to grow up (me included!) It's a TRAP! On a side note, one of my favorite Dr.Who quotes: "There's no point in being grown-up if you can't be childish sometimes." ;)

Really glad you gave it all up! YAY for your health! I don't want to be old. I really really don't want to be old and unhealthy.

I worked hard to make sure it matched the drapes... :p

1) Getting shot at during work (Circle K, 17yo) during the Farm Worker unrest in the Coachella Valley. Needed to calm down. It worked.
2) Heart attack
---------

Hiya everybody!!
Oh! It does match the drapes. Sorry... I hadn't gotten my eyes open enough to look up yet. :p

Wow. Very very glad the shooter missed! Also hope they caught him and he had some time to sit in jail and think about his life. And yours.
Needing to calm down was the main reason I started, too. It's amazing how well it works.

Heart attack is a very good reason to quit. Wish it was just something like money, bad breath, etc. though. :( Glad you're still with us... again!

Thanks Kayte! I'm glad those angels were there for you that night...even with those names! Lol! Her passing really put things into perspective. I'd been smoking Newports for half of my life! Luckily I enjoy vaping more than I ever did smoking. I look forward to being able to say I was a non-smoker for more years than I smoked!

BTW...people always thought I was older. Probably didn't help the store was up the street from a college campus. The clerk thought I was a student there! But it was still totally illegal. I was young & just kept taking advantage so it was both of us. More me than her though! After I knew I could buy them I kept going back
Apparently I don't look as old as I am. Dale said I barely look 42. I like Dale. A lot.

I'm glad her passing got you thinking. When I started, one of the stresses in my life that made me pick them up was that my mom had cancer. Go figure. I would just have one here and there, now and then. I was 16. Then I my little world got turned upside down and I started smoking way more. The high school I went to didn't care if we smoked, so I'd hurry out of classes to the back lawn to light up. They even had ash trays out there for us.:facepalm:
When my mom died, my dad paid me $100 to quit. (He had quit cold turkey.) I tried, but failed.

Yeah, the responsibility is more ours than anyone else... even when we're young and stupid. :D I'm so so grateful that we get all these amazing flavors with vaping! I enjoy it more, too.
Hey!!! That's MY job!!!!!

Morning peeps! One of those nights...tossed, turned, paced, finally fell asleep around the time Haze turned off the lights in here.

On cell phones....I'm never far from mine. Living rural, it's a must have, and I use it for my business (although I don't take the write-off, too complicated). I have Pandora on it, as well as Audible Books....and Angry Birds (that has to be the MOST FRUSTRATING GAME EVER!!!!!). I have a note app, so any lists or stuff I need to remember is instantly available (Evernote)and what's really neat is that it syncs back to my laptop. When I go to an estimate, I can take pictures of the rooms and the paper and have it right at my fingertips when writing up the quotes. Our son is still on the plan, so he sends us $65/month and that helps defray the cost.

No word from Rhonda...

On smoking...I didn't start until I was 22/23. I think the reason I started was mainly boredom. But I enjoyed it and it definitely was a stress reliever. I quit mainly because smokes have gotten so expensive. A carton here is close to $55 and I was going through one every 5 days or so. And, of course, the constant grousing from family. Now that I've switched to vaping, I've had no complaints; although it took some printed material to convince my mom that nicotine isn't the monster in the closet. I think she finally understands that I need the nicotine to keep me sane and off the stinkies. Now that she's on board with that, it's all good.
Hi elf! Could you please re-do the walls in the bathroom? You won't believe what deej used in there.

I love pandora! We have a roku and I have pandora on it. And angry birds. lol It's fun to play on the TV.

Hope Rhonda is okay and not laying in bed sick needing a bowl of chicken soup. :(

The price of cigs is mind boggling! I remember paying .50cents a pack waaay back when. I'm glad your family is happy with your switching! :) And yeah... sane is good!

Thanks everyone  Sorry about not checking in, I could NOT get out of bed yesterday, I tried but it wasn't gonna happen. I think it's just a summer cold or flu. I appreciate your kind thoughts, I'm sure I will be better soon. xoxoxoxox Love y'all!

Summer flu is the WORST! But be careful, Rhonda, there's a nasty upper respiratory bug going around down there. A friend of mine in Monroe, LA was down for over a week with it. If you're not feeling better in a couple of days, please go see your doctor.

So I have a question for everyone. Well... two.
1) How/why did you start smoking?
2) What was if for you personally that led you to quit and switch to ecigs?

Ok my turn.

1. Started when I was 11, in the Boy Scouts of all places. The older kids were doing it and of course I wanted to be cool and fit in. I started a lot of things very young in my life. I used to sneak off when camping and smoke and do other things I shouldn't have been doing, when your a kid you think your grown up, and I had to grow up pretty quickly. I wish I had never started and while I now have some issues with the Boy Scouts, those were some of the best days of my life. Still one of my favorite things in this world is going off alone in the woods and getting horribly lost.

2. I had tried to quit many times, and was successful for over a year twice but always went back to it, and always, always still wanted to smoke during the times I quit. I had tried the gum, patch etc. and none of them worked, cold turkey was the only way I was able to do it and it was really hard. Stress always took me back to smoking. It is pretty incredible that it was easier for me to quit meat and dairy than it was cigarettes.

What prompted me to quit this time is actually that my wife decided we wanted to try to have a baby and of course she did not want to be smoking for that. That is no longer a reason but it was so easy to quit and keep of cigarettes by vaping I don't think I will ever have another smoke. I am actually already down to 6mg nic juice and have had no issues with it at all. I tried a cigarette about 5 days into vaping and it was so disgusting, vaping is so much better on so many levels.

OK folks, I've got to get off my .... and get a few things done around here. My jigging rod needs to be re-strung because I'm off to Wilmington, NC on Monday for a week of R&R with my son, and the other boys (step-sons) are coming in for the weekend for Father's Day. Rooms to clean, beds to make, house to flush, um, I mean clean up. So, I'll be in and out.

Super proud of you too hon! And yeah that sucks about the psychiatric treatment, sorry dear. Been there and actually picked up a few other bad habits from it myself. I actually got kicked out of one of them, still can't believe that was even possible.
