Wow. Those are the wisest words on this whole thread! :)

People trying to decide between a 401 and a 510 makes me want to chuckle.

Of course you would think they are the wisest words in the thread they are also the most pointless and least informative.

People who stick their fingers in their ears and hum when ever anyone tries to discuss the short comings of the 510 would make me chuckle too except they insist on flooding every thread.

On second though I've changed my mind the 510 is perfect. When its atomizers go bad they turn into strawberry ice cream, when their batteries die an angel gets its wings (which is a godsend since they spend most of their time on chargers anyway).

absolutely,

If you want to get the best flavor (not necessarily the best hit).. 401 all the way.
Even though the outside of the atty gets quite hot compared to my other models, i'd swear that it must fire at a lower temp b/c it allows you to taste all the undertones that the other models take away with their higher heat. It's the only reason i can think of.

i'll put it this way... Hilton on my passthrough 4081 is gobs of vape, huge throat hit, and often choking on the vapor (it's a vapor beast, i've learned how to work the supers).. BUT, if i want that awesome flavor to go with my coffee in the morning, i always go for the 401... It just tastes almost completely different. I swear i'm only getting half the flavor on the p/t, and hilton deserves to be enjoyed (much creamier and sweeter on the 401)..

Hilton is my fav flavor btw, followed closely by RY4 and 555...

Hi everyone and thank you for all this great information!
I have been vaping for about 2 months and started with the 402.
I've been happy with it, "when it works" lol but am spending way too much time tinkering with it.
So I'm thinking about trying the 510 after all the great reviews.

Just my two cents about the 402:
I really have no complaints about Vapor Production, Throat Hit and Batterie Life and would give it 5 stars if it was more consistent.
I have two different atomizers and 4 different batteries (One just died after about 2 months of use) and usually any of these combinations combined with some nice Hilton 36mg smoke juice produces a great effect but there is nothing worse as sitting comfortably vaping along and all the sudden: "Nothing" and you don't know why.

Do you guys agree that the 510 is a more consistent device? I don't care so much about my own time but I am also researching for my dad who really needs to quit after several strokes and for him I would like to get the best and most consistent vapor experience possible. (He smoked 2 Packs of Camel No Filter a day for all his life....)

Thanks for your help.
All the best!

Hi Vegasvapor... and welcome.

I'm a convert from the 401 to the 510. I had many of the same issues you've described. I just got sick of fussing with it all the time to get a decent hit. The vapor production and throat hit with the 510 manual is as good (better, IMO) than the 401 and, more importantly, it's consistent. The carts are much easier to top off in the 510 as they're not recessed like the 401. No more looking for that illusive paper clip or tool to push the cart up or getting juice all over your fingers.

Trade up - you won't regret it.

I'm back. :D

I've had the 510 for almost a week now, and maaan have I been putting it through its paces. Thought I'd give you all my "official" review.

First off, e-smokey treats was great to buy from. Super fast shipping; everything got here in two days and it all worked. The kit came in a nice heavy box with a few extra cards to pass around to friends. No complaints at all there. Shipping: A!

The 510 itself is so much more sleek than I thought it would be. It's only a bit larger than a regular cig, and I like the wide gold band e-smokey uses on theirs. The weight in the hand is nice, too -- it balances in my fingertips much like a real cigarette would, though I choke up on it a little to avoid the button. Looks: A!

On to what it's actually like to use this thing. Straight out of the box, I was iffy for a little while. I was getting one heck of a throat hit, but hardly any vapor and the taste was awful. I tried vaping off the primer for an hour or so with no change. When I finally gave up, blew out the atomizer, and dropped a little vanilla on it -- wow! Complete turnaround. I finally knew what everyone was talking about when they went on about the vapor production here. The thing I've finally figured out with mine is that there is a real learning curve on what my 510 likes. The atomizers seem to clog a bit more often than with my 901, but once you learn how to *not* overfill the carts it chugs along like a little champ.

The 510 has made me cut down on vaping, because I'm actually satisfied after a few minutes with it, just like a real cigarette. This actually kinda sucks when I find a new juice I like, because I'd like to keep playing with it, but it just becomes too much. I *have* to put it down here and there -- which is a good thing, believe me! I was well on the way to having my previous e-cig permanently attached to my face.

So, on throat hit and vapor: "A" overall. I can smoke my 510 on a windy day and still see the vapor! I do go through slightly more juice (I think) than I did with other models, but it's not nearly as significant as I was worried it would be. Even if it was, I wouldn't care. Gotta pay for performance here.

Batteries: This isn't much of an issue for me, since I have the passthrough and the charging case. I was careful to season my batteries exactly as the instructions say -- 8 hours on, 20 mins vaping, back on the charger for an hour -- and honestly I've only had a battery run all the way down on me once so far. I've been out at parties absolutely flogging these things, letting my friends try them out and chain smoking, and they still seem to last 3 hours + for me so far. Definitely not the best, but I'm also never worrying about whether my batteries have run down accidentally in my pocket, or have died again from juice leaking down into the non-sealed auto batteries. Friday night turned into one of those super long, up till dawn kinda nights way out of town at a friend's house, and never once did I have to worry that I'd be searching around for an outlet to plug in. Those embarrassing days are over! So battery life: C, but with a ton of extra credit for the accessories.

Last thing for me, taste: I definitely get a more "complete" taste from my 901. On the 510 I can tell that my caramel is caramel, but that's about it. It doesn't bother me at all, but if you're one of those super-tasting afficianados (I'm looking at you, Crazyhorse), you're not going to be happy. There's not a lot of subtlety to the 510 that I can taste. I'd give it a B-.

That's all I can think of to grade for now. After several days of just beating the crap out of this thing, it has stood up to every test I can throw at it. It's consistent with what I can expect from it every time, it works every time, and the hassle involved is practically nil. I've found the model I'm going to stick with. :) I just wish I had found it sooner!

I'll probably just wait for the Janty Stick V2, It get both the long battery life and great performance from what I'm hearing from V1 user, beside the button issue, which hopefully will fixed in V2. I own both the M401 and the 510, just like everybody say, the 401 has better battery life, but everything else the 510 has bit it hands down, but the battery life is ridiculous short, 30 minutes the most from a full charge.

My collection is growing abysmally, because it seems each new PV has a different "specialty".

Generally, the 510 is my desk and van PV. At my desk on a passthrough it's a good little rumbler, though the atty does get clogged frequently so I have to "burn it off" to get vapor back up to par. Gives a nice hit, and decent flavor. Where it shines, however, is in my van. I'm mid-restore so the beast is loud and vibrates a ton. Manual switch wins, easily. I have to hold my 402 in my hand to keep the atty from turning on. Only concern, as I said, is you gotta be careful to not flood the atty, and dripping and driving is a pain, so better a little light in a cart than trying to drip on the road.

My 402 is my "flavor PV". The cart is tiny enough that I can really sit back and sample a flavor or mix before restuffing. It's also wonderfully small for a quick jaunt out and has enough battery life to get me through a couple days of quick errands before it dies. It's also hella-durable. I finally had an atty die on me... when I dropped it during a refill... and it landed right on the atty coil and smooshed it up inside the enclosure. It took that to kill one. Even when not out and about I keep it filled by my desk for the occassional "flavor hit" when puffing along on the 510. It's also nice to not have to disconnect to go elsewhere in the house and keep puffing. The backdraws are the ultra sensitive battery... I had it almost burn my leg because I was bouncing my leg in a chair and it was assembled in my pocket. It's also nigh useless for driving as the car sets it off *and* the cart is not only short lived but hard to refill. Not something I'd attempt at the wheel.

The real shocker is the "old tech" PV's are still my workhorses. When I have a passthrough, the 801 is my desk staple. Gobs of vapor and great taste, nice cart life, cheap atty replacement. On a battery-passthrough it shines.

At work, I still use my 901 on a passthrough with a kensington power pack. Again, great production with the 5v power pack, yet small enough that i can wind the whole thing up in a little hard drive case with spare parts and a bottle of fluid, so easily portable. Cheap parts are a big plus too.

When the new Puresmoker sealed passthrough gets here for my 801, the 510 will probably become my main "traveller PV". It really works great for that with the manual switch and form factor.

good luck with your decision if you haven't made it already. I just got my first e-cig which is a 510, and within the first 5 days im very disappointed. Great vapor production, but I am constantly topping off the cart. when I mean constantly, i mean after every 5-10 drags. I went all out when I purchased it, buying the PCC and passthrough, both which are fantastic, however I am quite dissatisfied with this device entirely based on the fact that I cannot have a nice vape when I'm driving to work or at a party. I mean who wants to be carrying around a bottle and pulling apart your cig every 2-5 minutes? Maybe if youll be using it at your desk and you don't mind the constant dripping, but all I know is that I won't be spending another penny on my 510. again I am brand new to the scene and have read some glowing reviews on the device, but with the model that I received I will be primarily dripping, and only until my 801 and 601 come from ruyan. Good luck!

well, it took about a month of deciding, changing my mind, deciding again...changing my mind again, but i finally went with the 510.

ordered from cigtechs, so hopefully it should be here by mid week or so.

i started vaping with an e-cigar (4062 - Bada Bing) and really hope that the 510 can match it in vapor. i love my cigar, it wont be retired yet lol.

Congrats, Sinner. I'm sure you'll be happy.

After this crazy long thread, I finally came around and ordered an M401 kit out of curiosity. I like it, but I have to say that if it were my first/only e-cig, I'd be disappointed. It's just rather finicky. I keep it by the couch for nights when I'm sitting at home and can fuss with it, but I wouldn't take it out with me. The carts are just too tiny. I do very much like it for an evening at home, when I have time to fuss around with dipping the atomizer. The 401 definitely does rock the flavor, the difference is huge. So it's nice for when I want to relax with a mild throat hit and great flavor.

The 510 is still absolutely my e-cig of choice overall, but it's nice to have choices for different moods. Someone earlier said that the 510 supplied her physical needs, while her 401 was there for her emotional needs, and that is totally true for me, too. (Can you tell we're both women? lol)

lol, nah...never wouldve guessed that at all :p

so my 510 came into today. my wife is gonna get really upset when i run off with this thing.

the batteries came nice and charged (thanks cigtechs!) and i gotta tell ya...after hitting this thing 5 or 6 times...i actually feel like i smoked.

so far its putting my Bada Bing to shame, but i can tell its gonna be a juice hog already and theres gonna be a lot of dipping the atomizer or dripping to the carts or whatever method i end up deciding works best for me.

but damn...so far im very impressed. i'll check back in a few more days after ive broken it in and have time to get to know it better. hopefully i'll still be enjoying it.

oh and and the stainless steel with the green LED just looks friggin cool. :D

OK its my turn to chime in... I had the M401 till I got the 510 Manual and major points that make the 510 a better device...

1st - easy to top carts like a DSE901... the 401 has a lil tiny cart inside the main cart which in order to top off you need a paperclip to push the inner cart up to refill... such a pain in the ......

2nd - Manual 510 batts are sealed so overdripping will not destroy the manual battery which is a very very good thing...

3rd - I am still using the same 1st 510 atomizer now for over 2 months and it still produces like a champ... to get the amount of vapor I get from my 510 manual I would have to stick 2 or 3 M401's in my mouth at the same time...

4th - The manual 510 Batts are not sensitive to sound or vibration like the M401 and other PV's with auto switches...

5th - Now that the 510 has an available passthru and with a Kensington Power Pack I can vape all the live long day even on the go...

Like I said I at one time had 3 M401 kits cause I thought they would be great after reading what people thought but in my opinion the M401 is a tempermental delicate over sensitive fragile huge POS and Im glad I have gotten those demon devices from my house for they will never be welcome in my home again... Thank You and Have a Nice Day!!!

Yep, I agree with all you said above. I too bought into the positives that people were writing about the M401.
But, I must say, after owning this baby........never again! Everything you say is sooooo true. But I also read that the 510 has real small carts. Compared to the refill timing.....which is a longer last?

The M401 is so temperamental. Today, here in Toronto, we had a nasty, long & loud thunder storm. Believe it or not, both batteries would not put out very well. And since I have only one charger, I had to sneak a couple of real cigs until the batts were re-charged. My passthrough is on back order.

It is such an ordeal to play around with the re-fill of the 401 carts, especially when on the road. Searching for a paper clip, mopping up the excess liquid.....repeating every 10 minutes......A REAL PAIN!!! And then, to top it off, both batts decide NOT to give me at least 4 hrs each when I am out & about. Left stranded with no e-cigs working & no real cigs avail......yep, a real pain.
The M401 manufacturers should make a PCC like the 510 has. At least part of the problem would be fixed.

Actually, all e-cigs should have the PCC available......what's up with that?

And the only way I get great vapor is if I put a couple of drops of glycerine into the already very tiny cart, which does not leave much room for the much needed nicotine. Yep, live and learn. If you are a casual smoker......and I mean real casual, you would like this model. But if you are a 2 pkgs a day person.....nope, not the model for you.

I just saw the video on the VX2 (J118) model. Huge difference in battery time and larger carts....easy to refill. I think that that will be my next choice, with the Janty Stick ......sheeeesh!!! I sure wish ALL these babies came with PCC's. (this is ending up costing more than buying the Indian reserve real cigs for $20./carton!)

I haven't been out to New Mexico since Thanksgiving. Are they still that cheap on the reserve?

lololololol, I thought that I mentioned that I am in Toronto.....not Tonto lololo Toronto is in the province of Ontario, CANADA & no, we do not live in igloos as most Americans may think! lololol Toronto is very much like N.Y. City but without the lunatic, heartless crime.

Canadian Indian reserve cigs are as cheap as $8. (at the reserve) for real crap with wood chips & other flammable junk in them and the half descent stuff sold in Toronto, thru middle men, goes for $25./cart. Sorry, the price just went up $5. last purchase, I forgot, I should have written $25. ;)

So your saying Tonto was a Canadian?! And they named a city after him?? ROFL.

Seriously though, Indian reservations out west in the US have very cheap prices on name brand cigs. I thought that's what you were referring to. I apologize for not understanding where you're situated.

Toronto is great city. Visited a number of times. :)
