Michigan bans flavored e-cigarettes to curb youth vaping epidemic

In a joint statement, the American Heart Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, the Campaign for tobacco-Free Kids and the Truth Initiative called Whitmer's action "necessary and appropriate."

"In the absence of strong federal regulation, parents have been blindsided by the e-cigarette epidemic," the groups wrote. "The time for waiting is over. The FDA must immediately remove all flavored e-cigarettes from the market nationwide, prohibit all marketing to children and prohibit online sales of e-cigarettes."

Harbinger of things to come. May have to double my frozen DIY stockpile of flavors.
FDA Created the Youth Vaping Epidemic, Now It’s Doubling Down

I've talked to several students at my former high school. They told me "a lot" of kids do vape, but couldn't give me a percentage or number. Kids vape to get a "nicotine buzz" or "impress" their peers. The fact that it is illegal for under-aged people to vape is also a draw, just as teenage drinking and smoking is. None of the kids I talked to said they vaped because of flavorings. Kids are gonna do what kids do no matter what. Why punish those adults who vape or might vape in the future for legitimate reasons to appease those who are worried "for the children"? It doesn't work that way in reality.

This flavor ban is nothing but a political maneuver to appease the ignorant. And it will have zero effect on stopping kids from vaping. What it will do is cripple an industry designed to benefit adults.

It is just about time that we did "something".
Really getting sick of the phrase "do something", as well as most of those who utter it.
I'm all ears. What exactly is "do something"?

I'm a very active advocate for vaping on my Face Book, almost daily I am posting positive information on vaping in an attempt to educate the general public and dispell all the misinformation. If someone debates my posts, I have an array of information (links to scientific studies) that I post to back up my points.

Pretty sure ceejay was referring to the Gov of Michigan, as in she felt like she had to "do something" to save us from this teen vaping nightmare. Not to people who want to "do something" to save vaping.

Here is JUUL's statement on Michigan flavored vaping ban

There is simply no place for kid-appealing flavors in the marketplace. That is why we would also support an outright ban on such flavors, including those that mimic kid-specific candies, foods, and drinks.

Not surprising at all. They have the market and resources to go strictly tobacco flavor. "Mom and Pops" go out of business and they get all that remains.

Lol, my statement wasn't directed towards anyone here at all. "Do something" seems to be the latest buzz phrase being chanted by the masses begging their government to further intrude upon their lives by removing more of their freedoms.

@CMD-Ky, I fully recognize your sarcasm as it was intended, I meant no disrespect towards you. The world being what it is, though, I will accept that barf bag. Thank you.

If you are right, then I withdraw my comment which was intended (intentions, you know) to castigate those who want to do "something" about this terrible epidemic.

I know CASAA is having a "call to action" specifically for Michigan, but I was unable to get on their website.

Must be the communists messing with the internet again.

I did. So much so I spent the next 25 years trying to recapture the moment.
Absolutely Tabac Man. I was a regular in the Pub at 15 drinking, my lager and lime, omg disgusting. I have progressed since the mid 70's, some might not think so, to drinking Blue Moon and Shock Top!

And I am deleting my comment and apologize for my excessively thin skin.
