So I've been wrestling this Kanthal monster. (not like scary monster, like PITA monster). The stuff is just soooooo limp in flavor and kick (IMHO). So all y'all LACKING FLAVOR PEEPS; I wanted to share where I got to. It's not that I was getting no flavor, its just that it seemed so limp. Next to 26g Nichrome, 25g Kanthal is like a . . . . . . not as good thing. Anyway, I went back to a build I tried a while back, and it really does make the top-notes shine. Gives nice TH (but balanced, cause the vertical coil section is just a tad bigger/more present). ANYWAY, IF YOU'RE HAVING LACKING FLAVOR ISSUES TRY THIS. Its a single coil.

Air is going 100% under the horiz part and striking the vertical section dead nuts.

any tips would be great..I STILL can't get it through.:(

Ekowool tends to come flat, roll it between you fingers to help get it round, it won't get totally round though. Torch a section on the end about 2-3 lengths of your coil, I torch like an inch or so. Don't have to torch it for a long time, just enough to get it stiff, it should shrink a bit & get rounder. Use a pair of sharp scissors or cutters & cut a small piece of the end. The idea is to make a nice clean cut so there's no fraying. Then torch again slighty at the cut to stiffen it back up. If you get any stray strands at the cut, you can moisten your fingers & smooth out the strays, then torch to stiffen.

Carefully feed it through the coil, a bit of twisting may help. If you bend/move the torched section too much it will soften up again. The reason for torching a longer section is so the stiffened area will allow you to feed the Ekowool through the coil easier. Once it pops out the other end of the coil, I use tweezers to grab the Ekowool & pull it out, then cut to the desired length. I always torch any part of Ekowool where I'm going to make a cut to prevent fraying. If you torch way to much the Ekowool will get brittle & break up depending on whay you gfab it with. HTH. :)

I've had my Grand for a week now, and I'm already spoiled. I had decided to recoil a couple of my old RDAs today, and just couldn't work up any enthusiasm for going back to dripping (which I found that I liked so much better than all the leaky, gurgly tanks I have laying around.) I ended up just saying "screw it" and only rewicked my IGO-L and passed on the Octopus. I may have to start saving my pennies again and pick up a second Grand. Perhaps a VV.

Sick coils Dibs... I'm going to have to try something crazy like this someday.... right now, just running a boring (if not verrrrry nice hitting) horizontal Micro+ cotton (bawlz) coil. Hits great, tastes great (pushed it up a tad off the deck, seriously different flavor profile... lovin' it!)

8 wraps of 30g K, 1.6mm ID, meters at 1.8ohms... gonna wait till my 28g K comes in to try anything below the 1.5ohm mark I think

Think my next coil I might try a DirtyMunkeyDriver...

So Mr P.Dibbles... Has the 24 arrived?

yes indeedy. I opened it minutes ago. Gonna do some wrappin' on my darkzero coil jig after dinner! Got Dizzie's Doodad yesterday. Immediately tweaked on it cause I'm a Dork. The right-angle part is just a bent paper clip. This thing is totally like a third hand! I was "pommel-horsin' it". After, tho, I wrapped a regular coil on it, and working with it is a REAL pleasure!!!! I'll wrap some R41 on it this weekend, just for fun. Here's my mis-use of DZ's cool jig.

I tightened up with a pinch'n'glow on the mod.

I'll tell you what tho, it IS really fun to use! The stupid thing is: I had to fight to keep it down to only 2 completely un-needed coils yesterday (as in, never even pretended they were ever gonna see the insides of an atty). I felt dumb building coils, in the past, to replace perfectly good ones. Now I'm just fighting the urge to wrap on the jig and just chuck the coil in the garbage!
