How often do you guys change out cotton wicks? I've only got 32ga kanthal so not technically a micro coil..5 wraps (touching) around a small screwdriver = 1.45ohms anyway I primarily vape cigar/tobacco juice and I find with the cotton after 5-10 hits the wick is COMPLETELY black...is this just the nature of the cotton wick? Doesn't seem to darken as much with silica. Thanks

I suspect that the 32ga gets very hot very fast and for a long hit will probably take it's toll on a cotton wick in a short period of time. I use 30g on my VV and 28ga wire on my mech reo and I use organic cotton which is a little more robust than the sterile cotton found in pharmacies and I change my wick about every 24 hours. I could probably go a little longer but I do so love a fresh wick on a clean coil. Yes, cotton will not last as long as silica but then you don't have to worry about those nasty little micro silica particles floating around and being inhaled. Can you tell I'm a silicaphobe. I too use cigar/tobacco juices and my wicks do turn black, tout suite, but it's inherently dark thick juice and it is to be expected. It takes me all of 3-5 mintues to rinse the atty, dry burn a coil and rewick it. I think cotton is worth the extra fiddle.

Thanks, I've got a spool of 30 and 28ga in the mail. I do like the flavor with the cotton over standard silica, and yeah takes a couple of mins to swap a wick..did it at work today actually. Also have some ekowool I haven't tried yet.

Cool. I think micro coil an big wire is the ticket. I think ekowool wicks too slowly but since you already have it, by all means, try it. Another big problem with the silicas is that more often than not you have to recoil when you change it. I've tried every type of wick there is except ceramic (no desire to) and for me, the end game is organic cotton.

My faux-Mundy's coil. I call it faux because I'm pretty sure the coiling and interlocking didn't come out the same. I'm not sure that it could, because I'm using .5x1mm nichrome ribbon. This is a 7wrap on a dz's 1/16th jig. It "metered" at 0.0 at first, then I tightened it up a bit while firing on the grand (thank goodness my 1600mAh 18650s came). Then it "metered" at .4. The meters are in quotes bc I'm using an mvp to measure the res. so far I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm not sure that it's worth the work. Take a look.

In looking some more at it, I'm not sure if this ribbon will coil up the same way. Prof Mundy? Care to comment? I'm not sure if I didn't give it enough time twisting to coil over on itself like in the videos, but it started kinking rather than folding over, if that makes sense.
