I liked everything about Nextel except three things in the end, #1 being the most significant.

1. Started to think about what's in it and how its processed (or not processed) and decided that I didn't want to inhale off it no mo.

2. It took all the tinkering out of my life.

3. I prefer to make coil then insert wick. I could not get the Nextel to work for me that way.

Aside from those, I really liked it as a wicking medium. :)

I tend to agree, on 2&3. I got the "kiln treated" 1/32 Nextel so I assume that means that it need not be torched to burn off impurities. I now have 2 ft. of it that I got from Big Tex so i guess I will need to use it up. I'm going to stay with my trusty plume producing cotton pads! Cotton just seems a more consistent vape from hit to hit. So far with the Nextel some hits are more flavorful and more vapor than others. Cotton is more forgiving for lazy people like me that just want to squonk and not think! :)

Gonna put the Nextel in the classys. I got 2 ft, down to 21 inches left and going back to my trusty cotton pads. :)

I agree with super_x_drifter......stuff a little more wick in there. You want it to touch the coil all the way around, but you don't want so much that it can't expand a little when it's saturated. I always cut mine off right at the outside edge of each post. Some people like long tails: I'm not one of them. Looks like a really neat wrap job. And clip the ends of your wire off really close to the posts, or bend them in. You don't want them long enough they could touch the cap when you put it on or it'll short.

Alittle trick I use - I leave a little extra wire thru the posts so I can wrap the the cotton wick around the posts and bend the coil wire down over it to hold it in place. the wick stays nice and wrapped around the posts and not interfere with threading when putting the top cap of your RBA back on.

I have given away all of the 4' I bought. Decent stuff, but like I said, I didn't start vaping to knowingly inhale stuff that could be harmful. :)

Well, now.....aren't you clever! Hadn't thought of that....just saw a potential problem in the pic. But with these pictures magnified so much, I couldn't even tell for sure if they were too long or if they just looked too long....

I do have my moments! :)
When I say wrap the wick around the posts I mean just barely make the wick long enough to make it around to the other side and hold in place with post wires. I don't completely wrap around as it's a waste of cotton and never hits the coil anyways so extra wick just tends to just soak up juice and never burns away. I just like the fact that the ends stay in place and the ends stay slightly higher than the main coil.

So, I just wanted to throw in my opinion; being that I'm a big fan of the Nextel ceramic rope.

I originally tried nextel for genisis style, as a means of making that atomizer work for me. I loved the nextel, and found that it works great in every wicking application. After being turned on to the REO, I didn't have to carry my juice on top of a tubulus, and started focusing on drippers/bottom feeders only. FINALLY I got around to trying this sterile cotton batting business . . . . . . . . . and I LOVE IT! Nextel is GREAT wicking material; but absolutely unnecessary for us-all box-goosers. (He says through a vape cloud formed around some cotton.)

. . . . . with the exception of long trips to the mall by absent-minded Ukrainian vapers, or anyone else who needs extended reliablity (on trips etc.)

Last night before bed I stick some cheesecloth in my coil and let it steep overnight. So far I'm really happy with it today. I'm sure, in the end, it won't replace balls...but I'm glad to use some of it up!

If anyone would like to try cheesecloth, cotton yarn, hemp, bamboo and 1.5mm german silica...shoot me a pm with your address. I've preboiled it all so it's ready to go! Also 30g kanthal...Happy to share guys!

I've come to a similar conclusion with the Ekowool. It wicks great, its durability is astonishing, and the ability to dry burn it is pretty amazing... but when I absent-mindedly let it get a little too dry between squonks, and taste that really unnatural chemical-like flavor, I get a little worried.

I'm going to let my current coil play out, but I think I'm back to cotton on the next wrap.

Well I finally got back to playing with the micro coils this morning. I did 10 wraps of 28g coming out to 1.5ohms and wick it with cotton and holy cow!!!! Been vaping it since about 10am this morning and I am pretty darned pleased with the results.

I had originally tried to boil the cotton balls I have and they were still not dry after 3 days so I was worried about bacteria and fungus, while I was in town yesterday I picked up a cheapy bag of "Best Choice" cotton balls and nixed the boiling and decided to try one right out of the bag, and wow this is the cleanest taste I have ever had from my juice!!! I do not see myself ever buying silica again!!! My wire will be lasting longer as the cotton is so easy to rewick instead of having to make another whole coil.

I am one happy camper!

Do you feel the same about ekowool? I have some but haven't make a wick with it yet.

I never got to try eKowool. I bought about 10 or 12' of it and just sent the last of it out to others this week.

The reason I didn't get to use it was because I couldn't thread it thru my tiny coils. I gave up on it after that, since rolled cotton is the best medium for that.

Like Jan says - I love cotton. And I think cotton loves us.

You can also use round cotton wafers. They have at CVS in the make up section. ( I don't frequent the make up section but got the idea using my wife's make up removal pads and she told me where to get my own!)They are easy to work with as they are an even thickness. Just take a pad and cut into 1/8-1/4 inch strips. Then take a strip roll it in fingers and makes a nice even rope! :)

I did this today with a hemp wick. Thanks for the nice tip, Rudy!

Ok, stop it, all of you! I have two reomizers, with perfectly good coils. One with Nextel, and one with SS. They work. I'm happy.

And now you're making me want to go back to cotton!

Edit: the mesh wick/coil hasn't been changed in 2 weeks :)

Hey, if you're happy with your current setup that's all that counts. Different strokes for different folks! :toast:
