Yeah. I think it would take Darkzero's skills and machinery to fix that hot mess.

There is something about seeing Todd take the cap off and revealing all those screws, coils and fuzzy gooey wicks in a circle that reminds me I need to see my Proctologist(rhoid ranger dude) ... I have a similar condition only it's not where I'd put near my mouth, oh hell, you know what I mean.
Added: Remember Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire'? I do.
I want one.
You know, I saw that & after I saw the link for it for $25, I seriously though about getting one despite all the bad comments about it. Not cause i think it's a good idea, just to fullfill my curiosity. Doesn't make sense to actually be worthwhile but I will have to say it is an innovative idea. At $25, just maybe, more than that, no thank you. Hmm, should I?........haha
I'm looking into making the reo my first big purchase and I came across this thread while researching. I decided to give it a shot. 28AWG with 10 wraps around an 18 gauge needle, came out to 1ohm.![]()
ThanksLooks good bro. Howd ya like the vape? Having made a few similar coils, I quickly found that 1 ohm is too low for a micro coil like that. Very warm and sizzly. With an 18 ga needle, about 15 wraps would probably vape much more to your liking.
I wouldn't. I'm sure you could polish up a turd pretty well, but it would take quite a bit of work, and the result would still be subpar![]()
After reading a recent post by Juicejunkie regarding surface area vs coil diameter, i decided to try what i would call a micro coil. I was already using tiny diameter coils, but wanted to take it a step further. I wound a very small diameter coil using one of these picture hanging nails (with the large head). I chose that because the big head was easy to grip and provided a good scrunching mass.
It is tiny in diameter - exactly 1/16" O.D. It is 10 or 11 (cant focus on it cause its so small) coils wide. I already threaded a piece of rolled cotton thru it to prove to myself that it could be wicked - it is that small. The I.D. Is barely larger than the era/hornet Allen wrench.
I had to quit to go pick up the young ones, but I will meter, install, photo and post the operation later.
Shot thru cyberspace with my iGun
Thanks
Thought is was kinda weak compared to .7 ohm with gobs of silica, I'll try 15 wraps touching next time. I used all the 28 awg I had left to build it, have to wait for more to come in. I do have a little 32 left that I might try later this week, how many wraps would you suggest with that.
Got a kayfun today and it's pretty cool. Looking forward to my reo this week. I think I'm going to end up listing a bunch of stuff in the classies.![]()
how hard would it be to wind that with the cotton already in it or will that not work? If that is a stupid question, sorry but I am NOT mechanical in the least, it just seemed like it would be easier to get in threaded.
Awesome and congrats on your REO on its way. Is a Kayfun a bottom feed atty?![]()
I'm gonna say damn near impossible. It's not too difficult to thread rolled cotton thru anything 1/16" / 16 ga / 1.6mm or larger

Sennie, this is great advice from Jan. I would only add to be sure the battery isn't in the Reo when you are doing this. Install the battery after you get the wick/coil installed but be sure that the coils aren't touching the inside of the cap.Sennie, you just wind the wire around the screwdriver I sent, install it on the atty (with the screwdriver still in it so that it holds it's shape. Then, pull a little bit of cotton off the ball and roll it between your fingers into a "string"....and roll a point on one end. You may want to trim any stray "hairs" off the pointed end. Then just remove the screwdriver, thread the cotton "thread" through the coil, pull it through until it just snugs up (you don't want it too tight....it needs room to expand) and trim tie two ends. Saturate it, and you have a coil/wick.
If you want to re-wick the coil you already have on there, pull the cotton out with tweezers, dry burn the coil by hitting the button until the whole coil burns red. I "pulse" the button and blow on the coil once it gets hot....shortly it'll all burn red. Then thread a new piece of cotton through it, trim, saturate, and VOILA....new wick.

I would shoot for 1.8 - 2 ohms regardless of which gauge wire. 32 is hard to get to touch / hold shape. 30 seems perfectly suited to micro coils.
With 30 ga and an 18 ga needle, 1 ran about 16 or so wraps, however, I prefer and pretty much exclusively use a 16 ga needle and 10 - 12 wraps.
