Like others have already said, wood, metal, glass, and acrylic are all different experiences. I don't like metal as much because some of them taste like metal, and they get hot (sometimes very hot) while chain vaping. Glass is nice, but I'm nervous about breaking them. Acrylic is acrylic - we all know what they're like. They just feel "right" somehow. Wood feels more sophisticated - might be all in my mind. Wood has the same qualities as acrylic - doesn't get hot, and feels nice.

I hate the case of a carto too long. I have an IB tank I never use because of it. I'll have to search out a ring one of these days.
