Hello! I've got two lovely wood tips today (so far.) The first up is a brand new type of tip that I adore! You see, this is the kind of work that Doug has done for years and I've wanted to see it done in a drip tip so I'm pretty excited about it! Lots of wood turners do segmented turning, but Doug came up with the concept of 'random segmented turning' about 20 years ago. (If you see any random segmented turning, it is either his work or a copy. Yep. I'm a proud wife. )

So, he has taken this concept:

and turned it into this:
Random Segmented - Big Leaf Maple, Silver Maple, Red Maple, Mahogany and Sapele

OK, you've broken down my defenses! My weakness for wood told me I had to have this one! Gorgeous!

Doug has another random segmented tip on the lathe today, but who knows when it will be finished?! We've got a granddaughter (the super hero I posted a photo of earlier) here today and she wants papa to play! I didn't sleep much last night, so I'm reaaally glad he loves to play. I need a nap.

There haven't been many tips the last few days and this is why....

Isn't she just the sweetest?! The newest addition to our family. Our daughter and son in law got the call about her on Friday (which is why we had our little super hero on Saturday) and it's just been crazy since that call! lol She was born in a different town. Unfortunately, she's not well and is being transferred to a different hospital, but it's much closer to home, so that's good.

What a wonderful way to close out the year... with a beautiful new grandbaby!!!

Thanks everyone!!! It's been such an emotional few days! Our family is soooo happy to have this little one! We've been waiting for her for a couple of years. But, at the same time, there's a woman out there that's hurting really badly tonight. She made such a sacrifice of love for this beautiful child.. to let her go. That is so amazing to me and I can't help but bounce back and forth between celebrating for us and crying my eyes out for her. I'm sort of a smilie mess tonight. lol
