Had something similar happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Had a tip in the cart, but my gift card wouldn't work! Quick go to Visa to check. Everything okay. Quick go back to cart. Still wouldn't work! Take out of cart, put in different tip. Worked! 
That's when I figured out someone beat me to it. Am I slow or what?!
I've got to come to grips with the fact that my "gunslinger" days are numbered. We got some young blood now that are gunnin' for me, and my geritol isn't working anymore!
