Well, Darksparkle, I didn't go to my own prom but went to the organized "after activities" of another school of the young man I was dating at the time. School policy was that your date for prom had to be someone from your school, but the dinner and movies afterward was "all inclusive".
There was a group of us that dated outside of our "alma mater", did the after activities, then not only us, but everyone did the "traditional" thing and hit the beach! Brought blankets and picnic baskets full of goodies. Lauderdale beach prohibited bonfires (there were others that you could have them) but did have areas where there were tables and grills and strung with lights. You had to stay until dawn! It was another "tradition" of many, many previous proms. Oh, music was provided by our transistor radios.
You must remember this was over 50 yrs ago and times have changed. Date times started at 6 or 7 p.m. and curfew was 11 pm or midnight. Coming home late was "death", so being able to stay out ALL night with boyfriends and your buds was heady!
