There are a couple of things you can try:

- Use a higher nicotine strength, as long as you don't get any symptoms of over-consumption. The highest retail strength now is 45mg (4.5%), and there is a reason for that: some people need it in order to prevent them going back to smoking. Some ecigs don't work all that well, so you might need a higher strength to compensate.

- A percentage of smokers never stop craving a cigarette, no matter how long they have been vaping (or using any form of nicotine), and no matter what strength of e-liquid they try. For these people the only solution is to use WTA-inclusive e-liquid (it has other tobacco alkaloids as well as nicotine), or supplement vaping with Snus (Swedish pouched oral tobacco).

We don't know what percentage this applies to, it's always being argued about. Presumably they also need the other stuff in tobacco; there are multiple alkaloids including nicotine, nornicotine, anabasine, anatabine, myosmine and several others. Some people probably become dependent on yet other components in cigarette smoke, but many of those who find nicotine is not enough manage to sort it out with WTA refills or Snus. Be careful with Snus at first as some products supply plenty of nicotine (more than a cigarette in some cases), and combining it with vaping might be a little too much until you get it right.

So you could try these steps, in order:
Get a better rig (one that produces large clouds of vapor, not wimpy little wisps)
Get higher-strength refills
Try WTA liquid
Try Snus as well

I'm at about 8mgs on the nic and vape about 10mls a day ... pretty much on par with what I consumed when I smoked, but 30% less than when I first started vaping. However, my coffee intake is up, my sugars way down. 5 months off the butts for me as of today.

So not sure what all this adds up to ... or where it'll lead to. I'll reassess in another 7 months.

I think vaping is more fun and tastes better, so for those of us with addictive personalities , or those who like to constantly be doing something................chain vaping is how we roll. When I am online, I am puffing on my Tornado passthrough like my life depends on it. I got through tank after tank, especially on the weekends. I dont worry about it, because I am really enjoying myself.

Someone may have posted this already: vaping is not as good at delivering nicotine as cigarettes are. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but for many it trqnslates into vaping constantly. After some time I found that at certain times of the day my pv is glued to my hand, but at other points of the day I go several hours without vaping and I'm fine.

I was busting my husband's chops for lighting up a cigarette last night, and exaggerating my vaping. I said "This is so much easier and tastier than THAT." His response was "I only do THIS every once in a while, and you do THAT all the time." Ahem! Every once in a while?! Who's he kidding?? And if I vape "all the time," it's to keep from lighting up. He is going to be completely obstinate and resistant to vaping. I'm on my own.

With that being said, I'm not vaping in places where I didn't smoke, such as in stores. I do however pretty much chain vape while driving and at work, and at home when I'm reading or at the computer.

What I learned was that by carrying around my PV All The Time that I would think about vaping All the Time.

Try taking some hits and then put your PV down across the Room.
If I keep it in my hand, I vape more. But, all I have to do is put it in my pocket and I can go for hours without. However, if it's not available to me, I want it more.

Just like with cigarettes. If I was about to run out, I got anxious and smoked more.

So, for me, it's keep it on me, but put away in my pocket.

As Roly suggested maybe think about upping your Nic. When I began vaping I tried 24 mg but found I needed 36 mg. Now down to 2 mg BUT have no problem vaping 8 mg when needed. I also agree with Zoidman. I began 6+ months ago going on short trips without my PV. Was kind unsettling at first but have now gotten used to the idea. Right now, for me, it's a treat rather than a necessity. A few months ago I forgot all my gear on an overnite out of town. Surprisingly it really wasn't a big deal...ate lottsa junk food though
My advice is be grateful you're off the stinkies and don't expect too much too soon. Let it come naturally with baby steps and appreciate the fact your not inhaling dangerous toxins and tars IMO.

I think I have become MORE addicted to nicotine now that I vape instead of smoke. I smoked a pack of Newport 100's a day. Sometimes I could go 3 hours or so without having a craving. Ever since I started vaping I just can't seem to put my PV down. I vape 24/mg juice. I seem to constantly be sucking on my PV. I don't really have what I'd call cravings or nicotine fits, but feel like I might be more addicted to my PV than I ever was to analogs. Is this just me or does anyone else feel like this. Any suggestions on how to cut down the vaping? (Not that its such a bad thing)

My wife and I were having a similar, but opposite conversation about this today. We started 10 months ago at 20mg nic and are now down to 10 to 12mg nic. Neither of us feel we are near as addicted to vaping as we were to smoking. We both smoked 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day for 40+ years. I did lots of reading here and realizes some seem to vape much more than they probably smoked so we both went into this with the idea that we didn't want to end up vaping more than we had smoked.

Sometimes we can get a juice we like so much that we want to vape more just because it tastes good. In those cases We just vape a lower mg of nic. Now neither one of us can take that much nic without feeling the effects so it was just a natural reduction for us. I don't feel the panic I used to feel when I would forget my cigarettes or the pack or carton would start to get low.

I'm sure that everyone's experience is different.

I also noticed an increase in use at first. Partly because I could use it more places, partly because it gave me a buzz for a while, that was similar to the nicotine buzz I got when I started smoking. One hard day i had at work I realized I had run down 2 1100mah egos and was still using a pass through, and had the worst migraine of my life. So, I cut back my percentage from 24 to 12, set limits to use, and kept my case closed with batteries and attys separated, and never brought more than 3 mls of juice to work. Unlike my smoking habit, I've found that when I set limits to my vaping, I keep them.

Thanks for this! I've been vaping about a month after smoking non-filtered Camels & pipe for about 50 years. I'm no longer smoking but am using 24mg nic juices... I think I'll follow your advice and just begin backing off on the nicotine in gradual stages after a couple of months.

I'm pretty certain that my smoking days are over... I just hope the crooked politicians will leave us alone!

...

I really like this advice. Thanks so much for sharing! I've even noticed it to an extent, but I never put it together that way. If my PV is across the room and I'm doing something, I'm often too lazy to make a special trip to get it.

When I smoked, I was a Match Man.

I prided myself on being able to light a Cigarette on the Fringe of an F4 Hurricane. Lighters in my mind were for Wimps.

When I got to the Last match in the Match Book I would Always tear the Cover off the match book Before striking the Last Match. I didn't do this once and awhile or most of the time, I did this Every Time. It just Didn't seem right Not To.

This, to me, is a Good Example of a Ritualistic Habit.

I'm not Addicted to tearing match book covers. And there is No Chemical inputs to Satisfy. It is purely a Mental Phenomena. Just like my Inability to put a Left Sock on, then the Left Shoe, then the Right Sock, then the Right Shoe. It's all Wrong. It should be Right Sock then Left Sock. Then Right Shoe, Left Shoe.

In many ways, I see that Vaping can become something of a Ritualistic Habit for some people. Myself included. I don't get much out of Nicotine anymore. I've got a Drawer Full of DIY e-Liquids ranging from 0mg to 24mg. They all Satisfy me about the same.

When you mentioned that if your PV is across the room that many times you are Too Lazy to get up and get it, this tells me that you are Not Very Addicted to Vaping. That it is more of a Casual Habit than a Need that has to be Satisfied.

THIS is exactly how I felt when i first started vaping! I was on my PV constantly and getting 'nic'd' out constantly thus building up my tolerance to more nicotine. I started to question if my decision to vape was a good one..

Then I began to delve into the world of mechanical mods and thus discovering rebuildable dripping atomizers! When i first dripped my 12mg tombstone I nearly died of the throat burn and nicotine overload. So I moved down to 6mg.. went further into the rabbit hole of mechanicals and am alternating between 6mg and 0mg(mostly on 0mg).

Now I find vaping more as a hobby rather than an alternative to smoking cigarettes. I suppose I found my niche and i'm sure you will too. Goodluck to you buddy! Don't give up..

Way Too Many to Quote. But this is more for the New People.

I think one thing is Valid for All Situations. Do what Every it takes to Get Off Analogs. Whatever. This is Paramount. For me it was Chain Vaping 36mg.

But after you have 3 Months Analog Free, consider what you Want? Sure you can Chain Vape when you're at Home or in the Car. But what happens when they put you in a Situation when you Can't Vape?

When I switch, Of course I wanted to be Analog Free. They were Killing Me. I wanted to be Free of the Dependency to them. Trading an Analog that I had to have Every Hour for something I had to have Constantly Didn't cut it for me.

At my work, there is No Vaping. No Exceptions. I was starting to feel it was Easier to go thru 3 or 4 hours Without taking a hit when I Smoked than when I Vaped. Something wasn't right. I felt nervous All the Time in places where people couldn't Smoke. I thought this was supposed to be Better?

I'm too Lazy to type it again (I'm Basically a Lazy Person) so I'll quote myself again.

I completely Agree with you that there are Many Reason why people switch from Smoking to the use of e-Cigarettes.

For me it was Two Fold:

The First and Foremost was for the Health Reasons. I didn't care if e-Cigarettes cost More than analogs. Or if they were More work. Or if everything had to be done over the Internet. Analogs were slowly Killing me. I was Amazed how much Better I felt after only 30 days of switching from Analogs to e-Cigarettes.

But the Second Reason, which was Almost as Important, was to be Free of the Constant Dependency of Analogs.

I didn't like that I had to Constantly plan my day around Analogs. Do I have enough to last the Day? If I run out, where could I buy More? Would I have to be Someplace or do Something where I couldn't Smoke? Do I have a Lighter? I didn't like the Monkey on my Back that Constantly needed to be Stroked.

When I first Switch, I seemed to be Free of that Monkey I had carried around for 20 Years. Things were Never Better.

But Slowly things Changed. I found myself vaping More and More. Thinking about vaping in Places I would never have Smoked in. Vaping in Places I never would have Smoked. Or even thought I Needed to Smoke in before. Taking my PV everywhere I went. The line between Wanting and Needing was getting Blurred.

It Dawned on me one day as I got ready to walk into Lowes Hardware and thinking if I go to the Garden Section I can take a Hit and No One will Know. Then I'll get the Drill Bits and swing over to the Electrical section where it's not Busy and Sneak Another Hit if it is Clear. Maybe I can blow the Vapor into my Sleeve if it was? Maybe the Plumbing section might be a Better call?

The Monkey was Back.

A Healthier Monkey. And in Many Ways, a Prettier Monkey. But a Monkey all the same. And this Monkey was Worse because I could now take Hits in Places that I would never Consider, or Wanted to before. What the #%!* is going on? I thought this was something I was trying to be Free Of?

So I started to Leaving my PV in my car when I went into Stores or Restaurants or Movies. Just like I did when I Smoked. And little by Little the Need and then the Desire to Vape in places where I Never Smoked Disappeared.

Today I use an e-Cigarette much like I did when I first started Smoking. Take a couple of hits, put the PV Down for awhile. I don't think about vaping in places that Smoking Isn't allowed. It's not because I can't do it. It's because I Don't want to do it.

I'm Not saying that any of this applies to You or Anyone else in this Thread. This is just what happened to me when I first started vaping. But having been a Member of the ECF for as long as I have, I know that My Story is the Same as many other I have meet along the way.

BTW - I could Care Less what mg I vape. 12mg or 0mg or 36mg or something in-between. My thing is being able to Vape Less Frequently.

For me it would be Worse if I was vaping Constantly at 0mg than vaping Occasionally at 36mg. It's Not the Nicotine. It's How Many Hits I Have to Have. And what I Feel Like when I Don't have them.

But this is Just Me.

Here's my theory on why vaping for a lot of people (including me) becomes a continuous all day ritual.

When you smoke a cigarette, the nicotine delivery into your bloodstream is very fast. You get a lot of nicotine very quickly. You get that instant rush and it diminishes slowly, until you get the next craving. Also, you obviously have to smoke the whole thing. You cannot take one drag and another 5 minutes later. This all forces you to have to take longer breaks between cigarettes.

With vaping, on the other hand, the delivery into bloodstream is much slower (vapor as opposed to gas) and the devices don't burn out of go out if you don't take continuous drags. The fact that you can have the device on you at all times and take a drag any time you want also contributes.

I think in the end, your nicotine addition is about the same, but with smoking, you're getting quick and strong bursts, while with vaping, you're sort of maintaining a steady nicotine intake.
