I'm missing BB King this week. I hated to see him go, but it was inevitable. I got to see him once in Macon at the old Macon City Auditorium (where the acoustics are superb) and one of the first things he talked about was how he wanted to die playing guitar and on the road making music. That was back in the mid 2000's.

A tribute to the King of the Blues at Montreaux back in 1993. Around 6:00 his solo gets loud and raunchy after playing softly for a while. Then, he stands up, passes his guitar off to a stage hand, and begins to throw picks out into the audience. It's classic BB.

My daily banger. Its an old Squier that I hotrodded a couple years ago after the stock actives kicked the bucket.

^Looks like a comfy slap bass.

I've finally really dusted my MPC500 off...really need to get a better MPC...knob that controls the navigation through the OS was broken by some idiot kid years ago, but it has served me well...especially with some racks&pedals involved with it.

Try to use a digitech jamman for your track production/drum and whatever you don't want to have to overdub every time....talk about humiliation and headache. 7 years, and many headache treatments later....:) I'll post stuff when it's up, and it won't be phone recorded!

It's helped me a lot implementing other instruments into my inventory, really opening up more understanding of theory for me...so crazy that 12 notes can be almost as complicated as quantum physics.

I played some of those Zildjian electronic cymbals that are like strainers...the hihats sound so crisp.....edit-have to run through a PA, but I don't see them taking away the organic feel of an acoustic set.

I finally actually played a minibrute today.... I don't see why so many people hold it in such high regard (yes, I know all about my EGs, LFOs, Sub and normal oscillators...and anyone that touches a synth for the first time knows their way around basic filter control- I would think.:))

I've always envied really good synth and piano players.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to effects on the floor. I' rather have them built into the amp, but they have to be good. I've finally found a tube amp with great stompbox and rack effects that also sounds great clean. It's the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 with the Sanpera midi foot controller. Out of all the effects in the amp, I generally use clean, overdrive, chorus, and a neat little overdriven echo patch. All of those use different amp models, but the nice part is that I can program a patch and save it to a Sanpera bank. I've also got banks set up for different guitars. If you are shopping for a 60 watt single 12" tube amp that's reliable and inexpensive, take a look at the Vypyr.

Been having some fun with my X cigarette money :) This literally is not the half of it! The Black USA Stratocaster is something I have owned forever though (my precious).
Slowly working on putting together a rack setup, so far just the recorder, a lighted power unit and a DigiTech TSR-124S.
a few Strats.r2.jpg

I need to build the box, thinking of doing the tops of the sides protruding up with a Fender headstock scroll, too much? The recorder will sit inbetween these on top.

I am a basement guitarist. I am still learning but getting there. About 3 years into playing now.

Having friends to jam with is a plus. Joining a group once you feel fairly competent is another. My first band was with neighborhood friends who were learning to play and that was the start of a lifetime of bands and music. Back then, everyone was a guitarist. Bassists and drummers were hard to find. I made a few connections and musicians began to turn up.

I couldn't agree more than I do agree.

Even though part of the title of this thread says 'tell us about it', I think I should warn you first. I started a web page to thank some friends of mine for the decade date of a benefit they put together for me. I had a simple 'thanks' kinda page in mind, but it turned out to be a 'musical auto-biography' type of mess.

If you have a few minutes to spare or waste, check out this page - SoMDcomputerguy - Music

Remember, I did warn you you..

I took a look at your page. Great Work! It sounds like you have a similar background in assembling musicians to play with. It all kind of comes together happenstance and then you refine what you have to make something unique. And then, you end up playing other people's music until you write something salable and put it on the road.

There was a time when Alan Walden (Capricorn Records) came to critique us. We were just out of high school and playing at a local club. We were the house band and The Allman Bothers Band was playing on the same stage one Saturday night a month in return for being allowed to rehearse in the club during the week. He liked us, but told us he couldn't sign us until we were all 21 and could legally sign contracts. He left with "Call me in a couple of years and we'll talk about signing". Everyone ended up married and working full time jobs. We never followed up. I'm kind of glad we didn't. Some of our friends did and were openers for Capricorn Records name acts and most ended up drug and alcohol addicted and worn out from long stretches of living in hotels.

    ..assembling musicians to play with.
The music and the musicians were already there, I was just lucky enough to find them.. I was even luckier that they wanted me to stay around! Almost like what Michaelangelo (I think, maybe another sculptor) said about the art already being in the rock, he just had to carve it out..

Matching up personalities and talent is the hard part. People have to get along to stay together. The song is always there. You just have to discover the progression. I love to sit around an noodle on the guitar. Eventually, something begins to form and I find a new riff.

I have been gigging like crazy. These farmer markets have turned out to be the best thing I have done in a long time. This weekend I have 2 gigs, 1 the following (so far). I have at least 1 gig every weekend until the end of october and I found more markets that do thursdays and fridays and got on their rotation for fall. I might be able to earn a living hehe. Tips have been really good too

Here's a new song I learned by request. I had to cheat and read lyrics... first time I took the mandola out. I love this song

Last gig with the Godin archtop. I traded it in on a Taylor acoustic. Beautiful Koa 214.

Well, my friend's cabinet screwed up again...my 15"that I got a speaker put back in last year fried some months back.

Cruddy thing is, my friend's cab. was taken to a shop last time I thought it was screwed up, and I took it to a shop, left it there for a month, and when I came back to see the damage, the owner just said he plugged it up, and it was working. Lol...and I checked it beforehand.. crossing fingers that it's the same situation, but doubt it.

Main con in using synths and beat pads...you can't find any speaker to last throbbing from bass.

I wish I could play as much as I used to. I'm a drummer and played in some local bands throughout high school. I was with a few bar bands in the 90's once I got out of the Army and while I was in college. However, the stupid things I did in the Army, plus this dude Arthur Itis has kicked me in the backside and I can't play very much anymore. I still have a small electronic drum kit that I bang on from time to time, but after a few songs my back and neck start killing me . I guess that's what I get for jumping out of a perfectly good airplane 462 times, not to mention the other crazy stuff I did...Oh well, I can still bang out a few tunes and play an awesome air guitar! :headbang::headbang::headbang:

I think my days of playing in bands are done. I find it frustrating at best to get everyone on the same page. So many "bands" that have no singers and expect me to come in and learn their repetoire because that is what they play, yet don't want to spend time learning stuff I already play and sing. I can only retain so many song lyrics in this head LOL. Yet I have to use my vocal harmonizer to accompany myself? if I have to do that, it is just easier to play solo. I find if I need a loud band fix, I just hit an open jam sometime nd that cures me for a good while hehe

Dave, have you seen the new line6 effects processor?*edit-the helix* Dreamy...I wouldn't use my floor pod much, until I actually spend some time with it, but mainly because it doesn't sound properly with the volume of the guitar..same tone with all volume presets.

I used to go to music stores and try out effects units. I've bought, tried, and traded in more than I care to think about. After buying the Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 I stuffed all the effects I had into the closet, never to be used again. I just didn't need them. The Sanpera floor control unit gives me banks of presets in groups of four to use, along with a volume pedal and a Wa-Wa pedal (that seldom gets used), all in one programmable unit. The electronics are in the amp and the Sanpera communicates with the amp using a MIDI interface.

I've read articles about the Line 6 processor and listened to the YouTube videos. It looks like a good product, but a little pricey.
