I early retired about a month before I found vaping, so I never got involved with the workplace issues over vaping. My job was service related and I was the factory tech rep for high volume monochrome and color laser printers in computer rooms and print shops and the servers that controlled them. You can't smoke in a computer room, but until right before I took the early out package, I was allowed to smoke in my company vehicle. I was always on my own, so I could walk out to the break area or to my vehicle and smoke at will. That was a plus.

My wife says that certain juices I vape have a residual odor that smells like a sour dish rag, in her assessment. I don't know what ingredient causes that, but she can tell when I vape certain Halo juices and a couple of Dekang juices. I say that because non-smokers might just be offended by indoor vaping because they sense the same odor. In any case, it couldn't be as bad as the stench from a cheap cigarette. Some tobacco smoke now smells good to me, but most is pretty much something I don't want to inhale second hand anymore. I can see how non smokers resent it when they walk through a smoking area. Still, as a former smoker tobacco smoke doesn't bother me at all ... except for that huge ash tray that contains a double handful of stale butts ... Whew!

I've been vaping for a long time now.. I remember my wife used to complain about how analogs stank and I would never smoke in the car. After I've started vaping, my wife still complains.. not about how stinky the analogs were, but the smell was too sweet! (I'm vaping flavored ones like mixed berries, caramel, etc..). I still can't vape in the car when the wife's around.. but I do vape in restaurants and some public areas. I just had to squeeze my lips tighter, and exhale slower.. the vapour would be less..

I have learned and taught others to "Stealth" Vape in public places. If I am somewhere that the vaping may not be acceptable and need a quick toke, I just stealth it. Basically, I use one of my smaller batteries, fold my hand around it the best I can, hold my hand up to my mouth like I'm thinking deeply and take a quick hit. I hold the vapor in until it pretty much dissolves and then blow it out. If someone knows what to look for, then they can figure it out quite easily, but if they have no idea, then they will never know. I vaped an entire road trip with a co-worker without notice, I told him at the end of the trip what I was doing and he was impressed that he never noticed it the entire drive.

i agree that people shouldn't be using them in restaurants, i do think it's rude. but, at the same time, suggesting that they be banned just because he saw someone doing it in a restaurant is ridiculous. if he saw someone get pulled over for an open container of alcohol in a car would he then say that alcohol should be banned? we could ban a lot of stuff just because there are idiots out there who don't use sound judgement.

Someone needs to make a thumb-a-like carto. Wouldn't look too smart, but neither would it look like vaping.

I stick to my old habits of not wanting to pester anyone with my habits. I do stealth vape a little, tho. My boss called me up today... "You know we got a camera in that room, right?" and laughed. He don't mind.

Vaping in peoples faces because "they and their children eat cheeseburgers and don't care for their health" is arrogant foolishness, imo. Not like they shove cheeseburgers down your throat. /-- not directed at Hazz :)

I can understand offices and airplanes being smoke and vapor free as well as strong cologne and perfume free. Things people put in the microwave at lunch can stink up the office pretty bad, also. My wife nukes microwave popcorn at times and the fake butter ingredient they use in microwave popcorn smells putrid to me. It's not real butter by a long shot.

We all have to be considerate to others.

I had a workmate walk into my office right after I had just blew a large cloud of vapor. her reaction was 'Ewww cigarettes, thats nasty!' I explained to her that it was not cigarettes but vapor ansd she insisted that it smelled like cigs and I went on to inform her that that was literally impossible as there are no tobacco products in the vapor I inhale.

Fast forward a month the same individual walks up to me outside waving her hands through my cloud of vapor this time I did not say anything I just kept on vaping. I find that most of my experiences are of the educational variety but there are still a few that cannot understand that it is not smoke and not an analog.

You know the old saying, "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck!".

here's a good one. one of my bosses (reformed smoker. (the worst kind)). saw me pulling on my vapor pen. told him i had switched from the analogs. his complaint- he was in a restaurant, and saw someone inhale at the table. so he thinks they should be banned because of that. ...

Maybe I missed it.

But does your Boss want e-Cigarettes Banned from Public Use? Or Banned Completely?

You're right. Reformed smokers are the worst kind. I quit smoking several years ago and my hubby got me into vaping about 2 months ago. I'm all about smokers and vapers rights. I love how people see the vapor and can't/don't want to understand that its just water vapor. Nothing more. LOL, my niece said "anything you put into your lungs except air is bad". So I pointed out that she shouldn't wear perfume anymore. Because she breathes it into her lungs. Didn't make any difference. Those type of people are so narrow minded, that they won't ever get it.

When I was a smoker, people would cough at me on the street or in the parking garages. I always turned to them and made some comment about how I agreed, the diesel exhaust is really bad for you. Generally they didn't have a good answer for that. (Most of the time they were horrified that their passive-aggressiveness got a response..)

I would go as far as saying her perfume once a day is worse than vaping all day. Perfume is toxic stuff.

I have to say, my boss and everyone at work is totally cool with it. I vape at my desk instead of braving the tundra in the parking lot. One co-worker caught a whif of the smoke juice and thought it smelled good. Most everyone I work with are my own age, grew up in the 80's and partied a lot, so no worries. I would think twice before doing it in a restaurant though, I've been conditioned.

I wish I didn't have to take a smoke break at work! I've tried to convince my boss to let me vape in the back so I didn't have to miss out on tables (as a server) but she insists that it's unfair. If she has to go out in single digit weather to get her nic fix, so should I. Misery loves company.

Ask if she wants you to spend all day outside when you use the patch.. seems like it would be hard to wait tables that way..
