I only charge my AW & Panasonic batteries in sight while I'm in the same room.
Sometimes I go into the kitchen for a minute but never charge while sleeping, showering, outside or otherwise distracted.
That's with my highly rated Intellicharger I2 and highly rated batteries.

I research each potentially harmful or unsafe piece of equipment before purchase.
I save $10/day by DIY vaping vs smoking.
I don't try to save a couple of bucks by getting economy brand gear.

OP - please post a close-up picture of the damaged charger if you still have it. Thanks.

I have the same product coming for use with my Panasonic IMR 18650 batteries I purchased for my SVD. Thanks for posting, I'll make sure I keep an extra close eye on it and not charge while I'm sleeping.

You never want to charge Li-ion or Lipo while sleeping, you should be close by to keep a eye on them.

No. It's a NiteFireCore charger. Melt downs and exploding - it's what they do.

Adding this post to the running list of Nitecore charger failures reported on ECF. Why are people even bothering with NiteFireCore at this point? Geezus - blow the extra 3 bucks on an Xtar that doesn't have a track history or overheats and explosions.

I've been using a Nitecore charger for years. I've charged batteries for all manner of devices with it, from surveying equipment, GPS systems, two-way radios and now PV batteries. That workhorse has safely concluded thousands of charges completely without incident.

Granted, I have never used anything but top tier batteries because everything I use them in are what I consider critical assets--they must work, as designed, when I need them to. The charger is a critical asset and the Nitecore, paired with quality batteries, rarely has problems.

The incident described by the OP, plus the photo, tell me that a cheap battery did what cheap batteries often do. They go thermal.

I've read through about half of this thread and still scratching my head. Better pics of the exploded charger would have been more insightful I guess. I have the 4 bay v2 version of this charger and never had a problem. I charge them in my home office and it sits on a glass tabletop desk.

When I first purchased even my Ego batts, I would use a dinner plate to rest them on while charging. I know people don't use the "anything with fire in the name" products lol. It may have been the battery that caused this. Perhaps the 2 bay version has issues. Could this be an elaborate corporate maneuver to push people away from said charger to another. This board is a very powerful marketing tool and could easily be manipulated to turn people off a product and turn to another. Is this an isolated incident (I read one more like this a week ago).

Yes I'm in my late 40's and it's hard not to be a little jaded and for this I apologize. This could happen with any product really. Just be safe and use common sense. Try and buy the best possible products for your devices and never assume that it will always be safe. My two cents.

Lol me too. I've learned the hard way to never trust a battery that has the word "fire" in it....

I second that emotion.

So I finally got a mod. Settled on the SVD and LOVE it. Here's the problem: Got home from work today and opened up the new charger (Which I purchased with the SVD), plugged it in, and put the 18650 in. Yellow light flashed, and then, BANG!! smoke, melted circits, etc. I put it back into the box. I am lucky enough that my local shop is awesome, and I know I won't have a problem tomorrow. For the record, I'm a seasoned Journeyman Electrician and the battery and charger were compatible. I believe the charger to be at fault here, but have no proof at this time. I'll keep you posted. Until then, here's something I do as an electrician who doubts anything from China as far as quality control; Charge your batteries on the stovetop in the kitchen. If they catch fire while you're out of the room or sleeping (God forbid), they will be further from combustible material. This saved my countertop from nasty burns tonight. Cheers, vape on, and be safe.

This is Why I Don't go to Sleep with a Battery Charging.

And why I place the Charger in a Glass Oven Pan when I Charge Batteries.

My nitecore i2 charger that came with my vamo from fasttech had issues. The charging bay on the left (first one) side's lights were always fully lit. The other charging bay worked. I just sent it back and Im requesting a nitecore i4 in exchange. I told them they dont have to reimburse my shipping if they upgrade me to an i4.

I'm curious to know what others think of the Tenergy brand charger ProVape sells with their ProVari's. I have AW 18350 and 14500 batteries and only charge them when I'm home during the day...

mine has worked perfectly for the past 18 months, leave batteries theere for hours without paying attention

99% of all these problems got to do with the battery

I mean, isn't the battery's name telling it to you right there? Trust(there will be)Fire?

Received the same charger yesterday with my Vamo order from FT. I charged the batteries, oddly enough, on the cooking range in my kitchen, however did not keep an eye on them the whole time, without incident. Probably will continue the same practice of where I charge them on the range, but keep a closer eye on them.

BTW, the Vamo is my first mod and I am most happy with it. I love it in the shorty mode!

I ordered a LIPO fire protection bag to charge in/on in case of fire. ...
I don't think this can be understated.

What people need to know, is the cause of LiPo failures.

Beyond the usual "oopsie!", overcharging, under charging, it's also possible to just bang it around to damage it, and you'll only know if that happened, when you try to recharge it.

Here's a vid that demonstrates what happens, comparing multi-cell arrangements, with and without a bag:
