My dentist's assistant told me vaping was no better than smoking cigarettes!!

I was so excited going in to see my dentist because I hadn't touched a cigarette in a whole week!! The dental assistant crushed my little vaping heart when she told me vaping was not one iota better than smoking cigarettes and then proceeded to give me a long lecture about how terrible my habit was. She even claimed to have taken a class on electronic cigarettes!

Thanks to all the members here for pointing me to all kinds of studies and information about vaping. So glad I did not let her get to me! She should get a refund on the "class" she took. Where in the world did she find all her erroneous information?

Glad you didn't let her get to you too bad, and might be a good thing for her it wasn't someone like me in there, as I would have not only asked where she took this class, but where they got their information being as there are no long term studies to say one way or the other. Then would have popped off with well I am sure the 1000 + members of the e-cig group will be so happy to know that all the improved health and everything is in their heads. But well I am just a smart a** sometimes.

I love people in the medical field who presume they are experts on everything. What training (other than this E cig "class" she took, allegedly) and qualifications does she have that make her an expert on this issue. I would have loved to respond with questions like, "which ingredients are used in typical juices for e-cigarretes?" or "what chemical reagents cause tooth issues in vapor?". I can just imagine the panicky look on her face as she realizes her bluff was called. Don't let the haters get you down!

In another 6 months time, just tell her that you're not smoking - or vaping - just for the fun of it and see what she says about your lovely pearly whites then. bwahahahahaahaaa. Meanwhile you go girl! No cigarettes in a week! You get a big A plus from all the folks here, that's for sure! Way to go!

Well she took "a class on electronic cigarettes" so it must be true. Would you trust anyone who runs around and just takes things? Tell her to give that class back right now and perhaps try attending it instead. She might learn something that way. And watch your purse around that dental assistant. She might like to take that too.

Seriously, the naysayers claim about this is the nicotine in e-cigs is just as bad a vasoconstrictor as the nicotine in cigarettes. So far that's only a myth - there is no medical data out there proving or disproving that allegation. Personally, my gums went through a fit of bleeding a couple weeks after I quit smoking so I can only conclude that smoking was the greater evil in this argument.

Same here. I just love people who think they're doctors and research scientist after taking a "class."

It takes a relatively short period of time to become a dental assistant ... Graduates of these programs usually receive certificates.(Education/Training Requirements - American Dental Association - ADA.org)

When I would go to the dentist for my semi-annual teeth cleaning, I would sometimes get asked afterward if I smoked due to the stains on my teeth. After vaping for a few months, the last time I went in, they complemented me on how well I was taking care of my teeth. Worth the price of my starter kit, right there!

I had one that was a huge conspiracy nut, I'm talking about completely off the wall, not even the stuff that you normally hear.
