So I'm not a noob at all, it's probably been close to a year since I started my vaping journey. I can say the amount I smoke has decreased tremendously. I can see a huge difference in my breathing, etc...if I run out of cigarettes I don't run to the store to get more but I just can't seem to put them down altogether.

It doesn't help I live with a smoker. I've done my best to get him into vaping -- its just not working.

I need some advice guys. How can I put down those last few cigarettes? I've been smoking for about 12-13 years and have never quit...I think if I just had no cigarettes around I'd be fine but thats not really an option. It's hard to change someone else, you know?

Well I can't completely blame him. When he leaves for work I am like "Don't forget to leave me a couple!" UGH! I'm open to any suggestions...

Oh wow - it would be hard living with a smoker! I'm fortunate in that my boyfriend quit when I did. Ok - here's what I did: My resolve is highest in the morning, so every morning I would say to myself, 'Cigarettes are bad. Really bad. And when I get an urge to smoke a cigarette, that's just a mind-screw. It's not real." And then when I had a craving for a cigarette I'd vape a lot, and just ride out that urge until it passed. And I still give myself "the talk" in the morning, although my cravings are fewer and fewer.

Have faith that it WILL GET BETTER for you. The first three days for me were tricky, and then things evened out. But it's hard to quit, so good on you for having the desire to do it!

First - don't beat yourself up for the smokes you do have, look at how many you haven't had...and secondly as CommaHolly suggested you might look into WTA's which may give you a more satisfying vape and pull you away from the analogs completely.

I was one of the lucky ones, my hubby still smokes and he smokes a lot - usually about two cartons per week, my brother lives with me and smokes too...but from the day I got my kit - I told myself no more and now cannot tolerate the smell of their smoke.

And don't think you are alone...there are numerous members here who still smoke and vape, there is a support group thread for those people in the PIF Forum (but I believe you have to be a verified member to see it) and they hold contests all the time for WTA juice. giveaways.

I used the delay tactic

I delayed my first cig of the day by 10 min., and vaped instead...next day, 20 min delay. and so on until soon my first cig of the day was at 1 in the afternoon. I continued delaying (while vaping of course) until my first cig of the day was close to bedtime. also, when I smoked I only smoked about half the cig and put it out until the next time came along.
I still smoke 2 cigs a day, right before bed. because I am old and I want to :p
in almost 3 years i have never gone over the 2 cigs and for that i am proud.
i started vaping to cut down to one pack a day, so i have far exceeded my goal :)

here is the thread someone mentioned. I do not think you need to be verified to see it

I never intended to quit. That would just be too much pressure on me at this stage in my life and creates a mental obsession which is tuffer for me than any physical addiction. I did, however, make a deal with myself that whenever the thought of smoking came to me, I first had to vape for 10 minutes or so before smoking. If I still wanted a cig after that, I had one and found that I really didn't want to continue smoking it after just a few puffs. The next time the thought came to me... same thing... but I had to relight the one I didn't finish. This method, plus upping my vape nic from the 6 or 12mg to 24mg when I wanted to smoke, worked for me. I make sure I have different nic levels loaded and ready vape so when I'm in the throws of that obsession I don't have to fiddle... and that 24mg ready to vape is tobacco flavor with a strong TH.

You'll never convince someone that vaping is the answer if you can't do it yourself. I just decided I had enough and did it.

I had people watching me and it wasn't until after I had made it for well over a month before they really took it seriously enough to try themselves. I've got 6 direct converts now and several indirects. Almost as proud of that as I am of myself. Very cool feeling having a friends wife thanking you for convincing their spouse they could do it too. Thing was I never tried to convince them of anything other than I could do it and was willing to show them what I did.

Snus is another option that hasn't been mentioned.

Seems to work for some people where all else fails - though it at a guess overlaps very significantly with the people who would be helped by WTA too.

I just got some WTA and am waiting for Snus (it's not especially easy to get hold of here... Funny, I could probably see Sweden with a good pair of binoculars :) ).

WTA juice is expensive, but I'm finding you don't need a massive amount of it. I have a dedicated 510 battery / basic dripping atomiser for it. I vape normally, then when that 'just isn't working' I have a couple of drops - literally 3 - 4 drops - of WTA. Seems to be helping massively so far, but I must admit I only started this regimen yesterday.

Anyway, nothing wrong with a 'throw everything at the wall and see what sticks' strategy. Everything in the harm reduction game has costs and benefits, but you're unlikely to run into serious problems by giving something a shot for a week or two...

Ok this is what worked for me. Its all about replacing habit.
So when u first wake up in the morning instead of grabbing that
first cigarette vape first; then if you so desire you can vape.
When you have that first cup of whatever in the morning vape first
and then if you so desre smoke. After dinner geting in your car leaving the
office what ever triggered you to smoke, vape first instead.
Like others have said u may want to up your nicotene as well.
It was about a month then the slight cravings I had decreased.
Now its only sometimes a mental temptation.
After I had that first vape with a cup of coffee in the morning I
knew I could quit. Blu ecigs didnt work for me. But when I got
that ego batt with the kanger evod I knew I would be ok.
One reason I liked it was because of the asthetics, also
that click of the button and then taking a vape was like
putting the lighter to a cigarette.
I gradually started smoking considerably less within a week.
Then after a week I made the conciou choice and have been
death stick, skinkie, coffin nail, free for six months also remember you can smoke
anytime you want you are just choosing not to one day one minute one second at a time.
Oh and remember back ups back ups back ups back ups
Good luck and you are now a full tiem vaper

I vaped for 3 years along with smoking before I really quit smoking altogether. Originally, I only got into vaping because when I moved in with my boyfriend, he didn't allow smoking inside his place (whereas I smoked all the time inside my previous place), so I had to stand outside when I wanted to. It got too cold and miserable for me so I thought I'd vape for the winter so I could be inside and get my fix. Eventually, I got more and more into vaping but still couldn't resist an occasional cigarette, especially when drinking. That was my bane. But with vaping, I was able to cut down my smoking considerabley and it wasn't till about half a year ago that I completely stopped smoking, and even then, I stopped buying cigarettes over a year ago and only smoked when there were smokers around me who for some reason, always offer me cigarettes even though they know I am trying to quit and stick to the vaping.

It will take time and actual desire to quit, but you can do it! It helps to not be around other smokers though. My boyfriend also smoked but he quit the old fashioned way, although he still smokes when we are around other smokers and especially when we have been drinking. But for him, a few cigs on the weekend is a vast improvement from before.
