Hey everyone! Just got into vaping and decided to try making my own juice.

I thought this would be a fun hobby creating my own flavors, plus I know what's going into the juice since I'm making it myself.

Let's start with what I purchased.

Pg:
Amazon.com: Propylene Glycol - Food Grade USP - 1 Quart (32 Oz.): Health & Personal Care

VG:
http://www.amazon.com/Solutions-Gly...421858029&sr=8-1&keywords=vegetable+glycerine

I read that water soluble flavors mix better and are healthier (all an opinion) so I did a search for water soluble flavors and found this:
Water Soluble Flavors

I chose 4 flavors, apple cinnamon, blueberry, bubblegum, and mocha. All of the flavors are suspended in pg.

I started with bubblegum. I put everything in dropper bottles and measured in drops. Here's what I did.

152 drops pg
120 drops VG
28 drops bubble pg

That makes a 10% flavor, and a 60pg/40vg mix. I counted the flavor in the pg so 180/120

60pg/40vg because aspire says not to use anything higher in VG with the bvc coils. I'm using aspire nautilus mini.

So I vape this mix and taste pretty much nothing. I read about steeping and let it steep for several days. Still nothing. Then I thought maybe it needs a little sweetener to bring out the flavor. I then bought liquid sucralose here:
http://www.amazon.com/NuSweet-Liqui...d=1421858791&sr=8-1&keywords=liquid+sucralose

Now all I taste is that stuff, and it kinda sticks to the back of my throat.

In a rage of frustration, I decided to vape straight bubble, since it is PG. Didn't really taste anything. Is this flavor just a dud?

I will edit this post with more info and info on the other flavors as well. I'm off to class right now.

Please share your thoughts and opinions on this.

I would guess that those flavors are for the food industry and not really concentrated enough for vaping.

Here's a few recommendations on where to get flavoring and other DYI supplies.

DIY E-Cig Supplies & E-Cigarette Liquid | Make Your Own E-Liquid | RTS Vapes

BuyHangsen.com (Going out of business prices and reliable)

Bull City Vapor - Best Prices on DIY e-liquid Supplies

Vapers Tek

E Cig eGo, E juice, Mods, Cartomizers, Liquid Nicotine, DIY Flavorings

Also here's some recommended reading on all aspects of DYI.

My blogs will give insight into all aspects of DYI, from steeping to what supplies to have on hand to a basic walk through mixing your first E-juice.

Then read hoosier's blogs. These blogs concentrate on fine tuning your mix and give insight on additives.

Then read Boletus's blog's. These blogs concentrate on formulation of nicotine baces regarding proper calculations methods for figuring Nicotine concentration as well as safety.

Then read Ginger's book "E-Cigarettes 102: DIY E-Liquid". It is a book which I've contributed to that delivers an in depth easy to follow guide in the art of DYI.

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

I'm a zero nic guy so no nicotine. Also thanks a lot danny, I will try buying some flavors from the sites you listed. As for the topics you listed, I actually read a lot of your blogs and found them very helpful.

If I decide to use sucralose again, I'm going to have to dilute it since I make small batches and its super strong. What do you recommend I dilute it with? Distilled water, pg, or VG?

What about cappella's for flavors? I'm trying to go with a flavor company that doesn't make there flavors strictly for e-cigs.

Yea you left out the MFG of the flavorings and that plays a HUGE role in how you mix them.

Capella's flavors are top notch flavors. I generally use them (depending on the flavor) from 10% - 20%.
I use ecigexpress to buy my flavors I think Danny left that one out of his list but there are quite a few vendors that will carry a range of MFGs.

Recently, I have been looking to replace some of the Capella flavors I use for another MFG that I can use at lower %s. For instance, I use Capella Sugar Cookie at around 15%. I am looking for another MFG of that flavor that I can use at say 3% - 5% since i burn through a bottle of the CAP so fast. That is my only real complaint about their flavors.

It' will mix better with PG but either is OK.

I like a few capalla flavors but there not my main flavoring. I'm a tobacco flavoring person. It all depends on your taste. My main flavoring manufactures are in this order

Hangsen
inawera
TFA
capella

Not going with a vender specializing in e-cig flavorings opens up all sorts of uncertanties and issues such as the one you just had so you should rethink that.

I will always use only USP grade Vg and other ingredeance

Yes harlen:
You perhaps should've bought this microzee.
Amazon.com : Nature's Oil (USP Grade-Kosher) Vegetable Glycerin 100% Pure (16 oz) : Beauty
with this:
Amazon.com: Nature's Oil 100% Pure Propylene Glycol (USP Grade) 16 oz: Health & Personal Care

Also stop using droppers.....get 3ml syringe, or better yet a digital scale for cheap.
Use the recipes in ejuicemeup calculator,
or go here
Clone Recipes | Homemade E-juice Recipes

Don't worry so much about water soluble flavorings...I use Hangsen mostly from Exicxpress or Bullcity.
and if you really want to mix it up get a magnetic stir plate.

But first make something easy and you'll get confidence.

I vape mostly tobacco's and sometimes throw in some menthol.

This may help you out.
little video i did.

Some research will greatly help your DYI efforts. May I suggest:

I have been reading through different DIY posts and some of the recommended blogs. I'm putting together an order for my first DIY ad am currently looking at myfreedomsmookes, ecigexpress, and rtsvapes. I've noticed that some of the places offer USP grade, and other places say USP Kosher for PG/VG. I also read that USP food grade is not necessarily safe for lungs. Is there safety concerns regarding USP, USP Kosher, or Pharmaceutical grade? I've only come across one site that actual states that their VG is Pharmaceutical grade. I can't think of it off hand, but they have a devil as a logo.
