You know how alcoholics are always alcoholics even if they have been "dry" for decades? The same is basically true of a smoker. I've been off the stinkies for a long time now and still occassionally think about them. That's one of the reasons I have no desire to try and quit vaping. In my opinion it is a much safer habit, and it allows me to feel confident I can get through those days where thinking about cigarettes may otherwise make me fall back into a dangerous habit. I had smoked for over 35 years, and during that time I had quit for a year once and 2 years once... both times it was an "out of the blue" craving that pretty much blindsided me if you want to call it that, where I gave in to that "just once" thought that rekindled the habit as if I'd never quit at all. I suppose there are some people who never have a craving or undeniable urge to smoke once the initial cravings are gone, but I'd be willing to bet large that those people are few and far between.

what ecig are you using ?

I found the smaller ones not as good, 2nd time around I got myself a MOD and some good clearomizers and haven't looked back, 9months off today so stick with it, it only gets easier and don't knock yourself to much over it if you do end up having a ..., just get straight back vaping after, chances are you wont even like the taste of a ciggie already

I am using an itaste mvp2 usually with a mini protank. I also have an kanger evod 1000mah battery. I also have an iclear 30 and 30B.

Those of us who were seriously addicted to cigarettes went through the same woes. I vaped and smoked in parallel for a long time before finally quitting cigs. The first week I vaped I went from 2 PAD to about 6 cigs a day. After a while I started vaping and smoking side by side after a meal. That made me realize that cigs tasted nasty and my vaped tasted good. Both were supplying nic, so why did I want that cig? Coming to that conclusion and being happy with it allowed me to just not buy another pack one day. I had no withdrawal symptoms because I had been down to about half a pack a day for a long time when I dumped them.

Cold turkey is good if you can keep your sanity. If not, taper off and dump the rest over time. Gradual quitting while vaping can help you keep your sanity through the process. 25mg juice should be enough to satisfy the urges. If not, then there's 36mg. Some people find that WTA (whole tobacco alkaloid) juice makes all the difference. Google WTA ecig juice or search here on ECF for suppliers.

This is the thought that scares me. If I give myself this "cutting back" out.... how long will it be before I am back where I started.

Hang in there! <insert kitty picture>

You CAN do it, but you don't HAVE to. I was 2 PAD+ for quite a long time, I didn't even come to vaping to quit stinkies really... started as a 'when I can't smoke', then as a 'this is neat as an alternative just like cigars and pipe'... quickly became 'ew, stinkies are tasting bad', then I just stopped the stinkies. This was over about a week once I started using an APV versus an ecig once in a while.

Anyway, it IS WITHIN YOU to not smoke if you don't want to, the hard part will be admitting you really don't want to. Say it out loud if it helps, write it down on paper if it helps, type it into the computer if it helps, spray paint it on a wall if it helps ( your own property, I wouldn't suggest violating anything ;)

It's been about 6 weeks or so for me without a stinkie ( I did try one a while back but it tasted really bad, then I wanted to see if I would get a nic buzz so I lit one last week but it tasted so bad I couldn't only take 2 hits, sad... ) and the urges come and they go. When this happens I mainly remind myself it's habbit... habbit... habbit and the ONLY way to break habbit is to not give in.

Thank You so much. Now I cannot stop thinking about that kitty poster. hahaha.

You have all been so helpful. I am going to stand strong, keep my stronger tobaccy nic juice handy in case, and keep positive. "Let It Be" right.

You are singing my song! This has been my weakest few days since April 3rd (the day I put down Tobacco), I've been sooo tempted to smoke, that I thought about asking one of the girls at work for a cig. I made it through that day at work but at home I remembered I had stashed 1/2 pack in the wooden ice chest on my enclosed back porch. I tried everything to break that desire for a smoke! Just before going to bed that night I couldn't take it anymore and stepped onto the back porch, opened the ice chest and pulled out the pack. I'm standing there in a dim light in my P.J.s' and I'm fighting the urge sooo hard, I run all the reasons I quit through my mind and all the reasons that this moment doesn't make sense (it's been 6+ months). I will myself to put the pack back without smoking one, and go to bed. The next day I convince myself that I need to get rid of the 1/2 pack, it's just too convenient, and that may be why I think I can just have "one". I go back out, pull the pack out of the chest and look at it. The whole pack, paper box and all cigs inside are covered in the same white mold that people joke about being on powdered sugar doughnuts. and I notice this old rancid odor from the contents. I think "thank GOD" I didn't smoke one, but then I think maybe I should have, the taste would probably have killed any desire for a smoke in the future. The pack did get thrown away (yuck) and today the CRAVE is gone, but I think there will be others and I need to steel myself for the next one to sneak up on me at my weakest moment. My name is Nana Gail and I'm a cigarette Addict!:(

Remember the old cartoons that would show an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other?

Yepper! Will this one do...

... just looking for some encouragement.

There's an 'ancient' ECF adage that has helped many; "Just vape through it!" Best o' luck to ya...

Definitely use a higher nic liquid! I just read in one of the medical reports that since vaped nicotine isn't absorbed as readily as smoking, you'd need to up the nic level to 50mg/ml to get the same nic absorption from vaping as from smoking, puff-for-puff. Yeesh! 50mg is some pretty strong liquid! So, if you're vaping say 18mg/ml, you need to take about 3 times as many puffs when you vape as when you smoke. Consider going up to at least 24mg or even 36mg if your cravings get strong, and then cut back when you don't feel the constant craving any more. When you've vaped enough nic, then ask yourself if you still feel the craving for a cigarette. If not, then problem solved. If you do, then it's something else in the smoke you're craving, so try the WTA liquid to see if that helps.

Thanks to all you good folks here I made it through yesterday. I am not feeling the craves today thank God. I am so glad you didn't smoke that moldy .... Nana Gail. It could have made you sick (said tongue in cheek, of course it would...its a cig). Loved the little graphic, Iffy, and I gave wing to that ECF adage and flew with it. I vaped away the pain. hahaha. I hear ya PapaSloth, I do have some higher nic liquid and will use if the urge is strong enough. I don't have any that high. Even the 23 mg makes me dizzy after a few toots. I am so surprised with this because I was a pad to 2 pad smoker of Marlboro Reds. I was a deep lung inhaler (that would foolishly hold it in too). I found with vaping that the juices tasted so good that I wanted to vape a lot. I got dizzy off of my 18mg juice and dropped quickly to 12 then 6. Most days this is plenty to keep me off cigs, but I held on to the stronger liqids for days like yesterday.

I am just a bit frustrated over the newest reports on the e-juice testing being done and am not sure how to feel about it all. I guess in some addicted way I am telling myself that maybe vaping is no dif from smoking.

Hey Jode keep up the good work your doing just fine. I smoked for 48 years at 2-3 PAD. I quit last December 2013, What I did and it does work I emptied a few of my burnt ash trays into a zip lock bag so when I get the craving for a smoke I just open the bag and take a few good whiffs seems to work every time for me. Again good luck you can do it.

Great job, Jode! I know the feeling, all too well.

I quit smoking over 18 months ago, and sometimes I have really vivid dreams where I am smoking. I wake up craving them so bad...I don't know if the craving will ever completely go away, but I do know it lessens.

The other day I was at a pool party and people were smoking and drinking beer. I found that by looking at the (disgusting) ashtray my cravings turned to disgust.

Sometimes I will smell a smoker or a lit cigarette and the thought of ever going back to my 2PAD Cowboy Killer habit revolts me.

HANG IN THERE!

????? What Newest Reports on e-juice testing?????? I haven't heard of them and IMHO they are probably a load of Hog Wash.

Since I put down the cigs I breath better, I ride my bike (Bicycle) longer and faster, I don't STINK anymore and a host of other benefits.

So I'm not sure where you get vaping is no better than real tobacco cigarettes. I also plan on quitting vaping so I can be totally free of inhaling things, other than air, into my lungs.

Sorry I didn't mean to be misleading but the way I said that was not very clear. I am referring to Dr. F's e-liquid testing, finding +70% juices having diacetyl present despite claims on vendors sites of it being free of said chemical. I used the word newest which could have implied there was more testing done but I was talking about the one that just came about a week or so ago. I agree that I do feel much lighter on my feet so to speak. In fact right before the study came out I said something like "The proof is in the pudding", but now I am starting to wonder. At the expense of sounding wishy washy I really don't know where I stand with this whole issue. I want to be responsible about my health now. When I started to look into e-cigs again I was not planning on quitting cigs but it made it pretty easy for the most part so why not. The biggest part of me really wants to believe that vaping is so much better then smoking but then I read all these findings and I just don't know what to think. Keep in mind I say these things as I sit vaping on a juice called Gracker (graham cracker) which I am sure is an offending flavor, so if I was that concerned I guess I would just vape unflavored, but I am not so. I really should just shut up about it. hahahaha At least my addictive personality is whispering this sentiment to me.

When I started vaping, the tobacco cravings got to be the worst somewhere around 5 weeks or so. I was right on the verge of giving in when I woke up, one day, and it was completely gone.

I did find that tobacco-like liquids helped kill the craving. Hangsen liquids are good for that.

I will try that if I have another bad day, sigh, when not if. I have a pretty good bakky juice, well at first I thought so, now it taste like a dirty ashtray though. I also have a juice that emulates a pipe tobacco and is one of my stronger ones (18mg) so maybe I could try that too. I think addiction to anything is just plain scary. I was addicted to Pepsi for decades. Don't laugh at that please it was pretty serious. I drank between 18 and 20 cans a day. I had to do replacement therapy with that too. I replaced it with iced black coffee, which made it easier for me to cut my caffeine intake down. Now I drink one iced in the morning to wake up and the rest of the day I am caffeine free and completely sugary soda free. I did that about 4 yrs ago. Hardest thing ever for me. Now, you could not pay me to even sip on a cola like soda. If I had to drink a soda it would have to be orange but even that taste a bit like swamp water to me. I do not drink alcohol because I know it would become a problem for me, nor do I take drugs other then otc meds for pain. Even then I have to watch myself because I get carried away. God, I make myself sound like a train wreck and I really am not. Sooooo I will check out Hangsen (as if I don't have enough juice now, hahaha). Thank You and sorry for the wordiness. Would you believe I am really pretty anti-social?
