Ping, really you use it that long? Thats great to hear actually as I didnt want to keep making these little things?

You never rinse it out?

Lark-once again, ping covered it well :)

Ping your a great source for info, I did your atty cleaning technique today and WOW, I was gonna toss my atty and thanks to you, its vaping better than my new one! I dont wanna get OT, but can you check that thread, I asked a ?? about the glowing bridge and using a PT to do this..... Thanks!

bogeyjim, Good to hear it's working for you!
yeah, I never wash it or anything, just occasionally dab it dry when it starts to get some burnt liquid on it. The very tip of it will look a little brownish, and once I dab it, it's clean white again. The only thing you have to watch is that when you smash it flat to dab it dry, you will have to re-form it a little so it fits the cart right. I usually just over-fluff it so it has to compress a little when I put it back in. That way it's a snug fit.

To all of you that have responded that this has helped them: Thank you for letting me know! It's always nice to hear that I could help.

I am demented with e-cigs. I never seem to get anything right with them; leakage, burnt tastes, rubbish dissapointing liquids etc so I feel like I'm on a non-stop learning curve and that I'll never ever get there8-o

Last week I tried the spring method and it worked fantastic until I needed to fill it and then it just didn't work at all. I also tried the straw method but that was also a no-go for me.

I've being doing this cart mod since yesterday and so far so good!! I don't want to drip all the time; I want a cart that is easy to fill and doesn't want re-filling after only 2 or 3 puffs and I'm definately a lot happier with this method than anything else I've tried so far: and believe me - I don't want to try anything full stop....I just want a consistent e-cig, vapor and taste without all the fiddling, tweaking and fixing probs.

I don't fill it up as much as you do because I just can't stand it when I get probs re flooding or leaking so I fill it with just enough juice (3/4full?) then pack my polyfill in and drip a bit on the top of the filler too.

The last batch of carts I got I noticed that the polyfilling was a lot less dense than it used to be so I only cut a wee bit off the end (maybe only a third?), or as much as half of it if it was the older thicker fillers. I'd rather be safe than sorry and have it tighter packed than not enough.

Quick, simple and easy does it for me Highping- so many many thanks;);)

Thanks again, Ping, for a great, very obvious but elusive solution. (I just tried your dry burn cleaning but my two bad attys are obviously really dead as it was a no go but I have plenty of good one on which to try this method.

Has anyone tried this cart mod with an 801? The 801 was my exclusive atty until recently and I've had great success with just dropping the spring in vertically after cutting it to the proper length. Since the 801 atty doesn't have the same configuration as the 510 and 901, I wondered if I could just remove the spring and have success. If I don't hear otherwise, I will try it on my next refill and report back.

Thanks,
Lynn

larktdl: I have not had any flooding issues with this, but I can usually blow about 2-3 drops out of a properly soaked (not flooded) 510 atty. A 510 will hold 2-3 drops in the nickel foam under normal wicking conditions. Other attys will hold different amounts. I can blow 10-15 drops out of an 801 (although 15 is closer to the 'flooded' state). What type of atty do you have? And is it hitting like it's flooded, or are you just blowing it out to see?

Ralph: Thanks. I have used this with many different thicknesses of juice without any problems. I think the secret is keeping the filler cap fairly dense, yet short. The 'dense' keeps the thin juices from running out, and the 'short' still allows the thick juices to soak through and keep the filler wet when it sloshes around underneath it.

I've been using Highping's method for 2 days now and am having great success with just a few bumps that have now been ironed out: Using a 510, turned out I had the "flimsy" polyfill and as HP mentioned it doesn't work well. From a sewing project I had some left over polyfill which was denser. It took some trimming down to get it to work properly. I think if the plug is too dense then even though it is short it still tends to dry out on the top (like the original full-length one). But I've got it aced now and I am really enjoying my "new" vaping experience.

Prior to this I was using the latest PTB mod (the "flower" shaped one) and I was getting a lot of flooding.

This works great (no leaking, flooding, drying out) -- thanks Highping!

I still use foam, but doing it as an inverted pyramid. Very very thin in the lower end and very dense in the top. In this way the foam acts as a wick from the bottom and soaks all of the juice up.

I tried some things like this in the begining, and then realized that, unless your PV is always in a cart-down position, there is really no need to wick from the bottom. The juice is going to get on the filler without wicking it. I figure, the more of the cart that doesn't have filler the more juice you can cram in there. ;)

Good to hear you got the bugs worked out ella!
It does take a little bit of playing to get it just right, but once you have it, it is easily repeatable.
It's not too hard to get down either. Basically, if it's leaking, make it a little denser. If it's getting dry, make it a little shorter.

The problem with the stock filler is that the top of the filler will get dry when the cart is still half full of juice. That's why you will see so many cart mods out there.
I have tried many cart mods (PTB, ZFM, blue foam, white foam, spring, straw, etc, etc) and they all have their issues.

Here's what I do that works like a charm (for me). Pull out the cart filler and cut about 3/4 of the length off of it. You should be left with a piece that is about a half inch long. Now fill your cart most of the way up with juice (leave it about a quarter inch from the top). Then stick the little piece of filler that you cut right on top and gently push it in until it's flush with the rim of the cart.

This method will not only allow you to get more juice in the cart, but that little piece of filler will stay soaked until the cart is completely dry.

I have been using this method with my 510's for a few months now and have never had issues with flooding or filler taste. The carts will hold about 18 drops and will use every drop before vapor drops off.

If anybody tries this, please post feedback on how it works for you.
Or if you are already doing this, and have any improvements for this method, please post them.

I take out the middle plug on the cart first, by first removing the bottom plug ( with a needle, paper clip, whatever's handy) then replacing the bottom plug. Then I cut a piece of blue foam ( happens to be my preference), fill the cart 3/4 full and stick in the plug. Don't have to refill for about 2 hours.

oldbroad: just curious, why are you removing that 'middle plug'? (you are talking about the silicone piece in the bottom of a 510 right?). I'm pretty sure all that does is keep the juice from getting to your mouth as it condenses in the back end of the cart. I just can't think of any reason to take it out :?:
