My simple blue foam mods

I want to thank who ever came up with the blue foam and who ever that came up with the U shaped slug.
I tried the U shaped slug by itself and it did leave juce in the cart. I did not want to use the springs or straws and there is nothing wrong with that but i said if i am using blue foam I want to use all blue foam.
My first mod is the u shaped slug modified
For thin juice I cut a piece of foam already comes 1/4 inch thick and cut it 3/16 wide like eclipse says and wash it with hand soap.
Now my mod cut a piece 1/4 x 3/16 x 9/16 long I call that the wick and cut a slug 1/4 x 3/16 x 3/4 long . Fill your cart almost full and incert the 9/16 long wick and then fold the 3/4 inch slug in half and incert it. top off with juice and make sure that the 3/4 inch u shaped slug touches the 9/16 inch wick so the wick transfers juice to the slug. works for me

Now for the thick juice. I cut a piece of foam 1/4 x 3/16 x 15/16 long and at one end cut a slit about 3/8 long so you have 1/8 inch on both sides. Now you have a Y shaped slug. fill your cart almost full and encert the slug Y side up and do not top off this thing wicks very fast. Give this a try and let me know how it works for you. Good luck I love the blue foam.
My mods are for a 510 cart.

I have tried both the blue foam and the white fluval. Both had a nasty undertaste that was so bad I had to stop using both. Am I doing something wrong, or possibly have the wrong product? Not sure, though I have heard of some others complaining about the blue foam. I rinsed them well before use. Sticking with poly and straw mod for now.

I cut my foam into strips and then wash them like 3 times rubbing them in my hand and then rinse like 3 times under hot water. I use hand soap to wash the foam. Hope that helps. It was Eclipse that first told of washing with hand soap.

I washed my blue foam today for the first time. Before I just rinsed it and couldn't stand the taste. Today I used a drop of dish soap and then rinsed it really well. It made a big difference, but I still have to top off often and keep the atty wet.

So far my new atty hasn't developed the bad taste that the other ones did and I've been using it for 3 days.

I am glad you have some improvement. By hand soap I mean the liquid softsoap. You need to rub the foam between you hands to get off whatever the film is on it. The film is not toxic it just taste bad.

Thanks Paso. I wonder if it makes a difference. As long as it's rinsed well I don't imagine it would? It does take the taste away where just rinsing didn't.

True Joye atties are juice hogs. With the Marineland blue foam you have to experiment with how big a piece you cram into the cart, this also depends on the viscosty of your juice. What works for VG my be too little for PG. Also note the foam doesn't really absorb the liquid, it just traps it in it's pores. Too much foam (tight pack) means less juice. You want it just to the point of leaking, and note most people go to foam because properly sized, it gives up the juice quicker than poly-fill. I want a touch of 'gurgling", especially after a top off. Good vapor because there is more juice available, but more topping off.

You might try some Fluval water polishing pads, kind of a high end poly. It may suit your needs better. But the fact of life is the Joye atties' cart/filler/mouthpiece arranged is not up to the task. Constant topping off is pretty much the norm. The clone makers if they had any sense should have tried to improve the carts rather than trying to fool folks with there Joye copies, flaws and all.

I just picked up some of the blue foam (marineland Rite-Size U) from PetCo tonight and it works amazingly well. Currently I only have 2 L88b's (blu & volcano) and I was happy enough with the flavor and vapor before but wow does this improve both. Plus I'm finally able to drain the carts all the way.
Can't wait til my 902 (from Modern Vapor) gets here to try it on that.

I have been useing these mods for over 4 months and the 2 piece is best on the 3.7v and the y shaped is good but wicks to fast for 3.7. I have a v2 on order and hope the y shape will supply enough juice for the 5v device.
