Jerms have you tried the new ethervapes burley? Id like a more pro palate to compare to the old burley
[/QUOTE]Yeah I went down to my local hardware store...which is a good one and was able to rube goldberg a buchner funnel and a vaccum filtering system that i can hook up to a home vaccum cleaner and adjust the strngth of the draw. the whole thing cost me like 20 bucks.
QUOTE=johni;14520465]I agrre with Bill, cold maceration vs. heat assisted (if you avoid excessive heat) both can produce wonderful results and temperament of the extractor will be a big determining factor. I prefer cold steeps because they require the least work and extractions are never exposed to potentially carmelizing heat.
Flavorful extract is far more dependent on blend selection than extraction method employed. Adequate filtration does effect juice performance but cheap , easy filtering produces results as good as any more elaborate home setups.
Extraction is definitely gratifying and the savings are substantial. While experimentation has been the only way we've moved forward, it seems lately, some are trying to make it an expensive hobby, investing in various equipment and trying some pretty exotic methods. I use less than $10 worth of equipment, keep it simple, and am happy with the results. Do whatever works for you and keeps you happy but relax and enjoy it.
ETA: Bill, you also have my La. Red as a head to head.
I wanted to ask if anyone has used 2.5 micron lab filters to filter thier extracts with, and what the results were.
According to posts I've read here on ECF (which may indicate dubious authority, but that's true of just about every ), a standard drip coffee filter---whether pleated/fluted flat-bottom basket-type or Melitta conical, and whether single layer or doubled---filters down to 10-30 microns, depending on the individual filter. They're not laboratory filters, so quality and pore size varies substantially.
I've read other sources online (of equally uncertain authority and validity) that stated from 20-100 microns. In all my online reading about this question, I've never seen anyone suggest that a paper coffee filter is less than 10 microns.
No I haven't.Jerms have you tried the new ethervapes burley? Id like a more pro palate to compare to the old burley
I started out doing my own taste test of black cavendish a few weeks ago which included EV Eclipse, RBFS Caven Fever and NET.com Black Cavendish. I was happily vaping along and I needed to refill all three tanks which I did. Unfortunately I lost track of which tank had what vendor’s liquid in it. I finished vaping the balance of the tanks and then scrapped the test. I am hoping to go back to it however I vaguely remember that Caven Fever’s flavor was somewhat on the mild side IMO. I am not sure if it is because this is the way it is or if I need to steep it longer for the flavors to come out or if it was over-steeped if there is such a thing. It was pre–steeped for three weeks before I received it and then I let it steep for another month. Do I need to steep it longer and if so what is the recommended time? I do not test taste my liquids FOOB.

With the RBFS liquids and others, I found that they had much more flavor after I steeped them for about five weeks to around ninety days after they first arrived, pre-steeped or not.
I always test a few drops of the liquid when I receive them and then every 7 to 10 days until I am personally satisfied with the taste.

Cavendish comes from different "stock". My favorite is captain Jack Black Dark, super dark but its fermented longer so its sweeter. I really like Caven Fever as a change of pace but it comes from a different stock, nothing you do as far as steeping is going to change that. Eclipse is a different animal as I believe it has some additives. I've made quite a few NETS now and the only on that competes with net.com id Captain Jack Black Dark. Most of my other NETS don't com close to Ether, RBFS, or Net.com quality
So coffee filter wouldn't be good as a pass after 5 micron before 2.5 micron. My 2.5 micron takes forever to filter.
Eclipse doesn't have additives. Its just 3 different burleys mixed together. A cavendish isn't a "type" of tobacco leaf like virginia or maryland. The basic process is to impregnate the leaf with casing sauces.
Definitely and everyone is going to be processed different some of them are sprayed with sugary goodness as well [emoji4]I meant to say additive burleys, corrected. The way I understand Cavendish is there is fermentation so sugar levels are going to be different?
