Does anyone know a tobacco that doesn't have that funky-grassy-hayish taste? I have tried many Virginias and they all seem to have it. Burley also has it but to a lesser extent. Of all the NETS I have tried, Patriot from Goodejuice comes without that funkiness. I wonder what goes inside, but the description says Burley, Virginia Cavendish and Perique.

Sometimes it may be the way a juice is mixed rather than the NET flavoring itself. GeJ has a ton of NET's that hit the spot. MOV also has a nice lineup of NET's, Full Flake Virginia is one of my favorites.

Hey all,

I know NETs are coil killers, but thought I would just seek a little advice here. This could has had around 10ml of NET through it, I have dry burnt it and used the water steam cleaning method.

It is Kanthal and has this slight surface coating to it. Should this coil just be ditched or is it okay (safe) to keep using. I don't mind regular changing of coils but 2 tanks of juice seems to be pretty full on to replace ?? :)

I experience the same thing. Don't know about the safety thing, but I just brush that coating off with a tooth brush, hose it down at the sink, dry burn it again and she's good to go. I just figure it's a form of ash.....no harm, no foul.

It would be kinda cool to have a metallurgist amonst us to say what's what though.

Boomer hit this one on the head. Some tobaccos just taste that way because of how they're extracted.
He's also sampled more commercial NETs than I have, so his MOV rec is likely spot-on.
------------------------

I'm not sure if you've tried any of NETCom's smoked or toasted tobaccos, but those generally are a delicious change of pace if you want to spice things up a bit. Latakia is too intense for some, but I found that many steep well and grow on me.

Perique ...well, besides being one of my favorites, the several different varietals of Perique can have a "funk" to them, or none at all. I know that's utterly confusing, but each person seems to get a different take on the flavor.

I find that Burley has more of a nutty flavor to it, Virginia is many different shades of earthy, smooth and sweet depending on the types used, Perique is a good seasoning for many blends and some of us love it straight up, and Cavendish can be one of a couple styles made from Virginia or Burley tobacco. Latakia reminds me of old family reunions and campfires, so good memories associate with that one and make it easy for me to "fall into" the juice searching for what I like about the flavor.

Keep in mind, there are many methods of preparing and blending said tobaccos, so the flavors can get quite complex, delicious, and very interesting.

Patriot is a solid juice, and one I haven't had in quite some time. I actually liked everything from GeJ besides Analog, which was pretty much straight up smoky grassy-hay for me. I believe someone kindly sent me a bottle of it, needless to say I never ordered it. If you like Patriot, there are many NETs that will fit your style.

Vita Bella was a good steeper, and one that generated many positive comments about its smell in the room. A must-have if you like a good, natural vanilla tobacco. Just be prepared to let that bottle sit for a while before vaping it unless you dig it fresh (it gets way better with age, IMO...but this oft was a subject of much discussion here once upon a time)

I actually even enjoyed their take on RY4 and the Organic Tobacco #1. OT #1 is a bit sweeter than other tobaccos, but has a good body and earthiness that kept me going back to it until the bottle was empty.

As far as NETCom goes, well... for me, it's like being a kid in a candy store. I love the straight tobacco flavors Clay offers. Balkan, Bombay, Gypsy Brunes, Poilu, Coventry, Dover Court, Chris' Blend, Black Cavendish and Natural Chocktaw Perique were my favorites.

For the hybrids: Uncle BJ's Blackberry Burley, Pumpkin Pie Tobacco, and Hot Chocolate Tobacco were all pretty good...though if you like amaretto, Shunji's Delight might be up your alley.

I'd still use it. Mine are 316L SS and have began to develop a dark precipitate after two dry-burns.

When I dry burn before re-wicking, I generally just let them cool off and then use a wet napkin or cotton swab to try and wipe the gunk off of the outside. I used to quench back in the day, but I don't really see much need for it after the stuff burns off and the outside is wiped down.

As far as safety? Well, using new coils every time your coil gets a permanent crust is probably "safer", but I don't really find it's worth the time to wrap two new micros every couple of hours. A lot of discussion on precipitates from different coil metals has been had around the internet (though, there can never be enough safety discussion IMO)

In the end, after all I have read I am still more concerned about the gunk that forms on my wicks than anything that could form on my coils. It has the most direct, noticeable effect on my vaping and how I "feel" the TH changes alongside this.

That being said, I still dry burn because I'm not a big fan of that "crust flavor", and I feel it too has an effect on taste and TH.

Long story short, it should be fine.

I only get irritation when I try to vape on an uber gunked wick and coil combo. Generally, the flavor dropping off is my sign to stop vaping, gently dry burn and replace the wick. If that fails, new coils go on. I've found that vaping past the point of flavor dropping off isn't desirable. My dry-burning a SS coil is probably more hazardous, if anything.

Thanks for such a detailed response :)

Funnily enough, I just swapped out the coil as I wanted to try some SS anyway LOL, so dry burning will probably be needed again soon, but this time with SS - ahhhhh ;-)

I normally have 3 or 4 tanks going at any given time, but I really notice a change in flavour on my NETs after a tank or so. I guess it is just comes with the territory when vaping super tasty juices :)

I understand the orangish stuff is rust from the iron content of Kanthal. I switched to Nichrome for that very reason. I understand it has less iron and more aluminum. But then again aluminum is more reactive than iron. Can't win either way !!

That funky-grassy-hayish taste is exactly what I'm looking for. I got that from a tobacco flavoring (absolut) I used years ago and really liked those notes.

I just received my first order from Naturally Extracted Tobacco.com and they are wonderful. But none have that funky......etc. I will enjoy them to the last drop none-the-less.

So is it a Virginia tobacco I am looking for? Thanks for any advice. Love this thread btw, I am just recently learning about NET tobaccos. :)

Black Note Prelude may suit you for the Virginia, I find it a bit meh, but many love it. I far prefer the Naturally Extracted Tobacco.com pure Virginia with extra extract and am just on their Red Virginia now, which is also very good. HHV have a few grassy offerings - I think Gaia is one of them.

That grassy flavor is what I like also and looking for in a leaf I can NET. I have a couple virginia vapes(INW Virginia TA, HS Virginia) and they are both sweet, the INW more than the HS. IMO the perfect grassy flavor comes out of the RTS TA and the INW Garuda TA is a close 2nd mixed into a HS highway, desert ship or No5 tobac.
I have to make a trip to the customs office and have a chat with the guards to find out exactly what I can bring over the border in leaf form and how much duty and taxes will be. The CBSA site is a bit confusing and as far as I've read that leaf is handled differently than cut/processed tobacco.

I thought it was going to be a type of Virginia leaf I was going to have to order to NET but in researching I came across saying that desert ship is a turkish tobac so more confusion in what leaf to buy. Me also is new to building the NET, my first was a couple broken cuban cigars that turned out surprisingly well along with lessons learnt, enough to want to build another NET.

Brobdingnagian, you hit the nail on the head with this article. By the way, Gawith Hoggarth & company's
Louisiana Perique Flake, straight up, is my fav. vape!

With my first order from MVJ Diane sent a sample of their Centurion. It had a very strong hay/grassy flavor and I was smitten and went through the bottle very fast. I ordered more and then more and none of those had the same flavor. I tried new, STP, big bottle, little bottle and even asked if the recipe had changed, which it hadn't.
I've tried multiple blends and pipe tobaccos that are described as hay/grassy and none come even close to that first bottle. It has become a unicorn juice for me.

Well, let's see! I've had and loved Patriot but, I can only vape it in small doses now before it becomes cloying. I'll try the Analog.
Thanks!

p.s. Forgot to mention, thanks to all the NETers here. I celebrated my two year no-cig anniversary Saturday. Couldn't have done it without the NETs

Congrats on keeping off the stinkies. Plus, it tastes better in NET form. :thumb:

Also, Dark Horse from HHV is grassy/hay-like to me. But, there are a lot of people that love it. Heck, it's even in the description: "Slightly punchy, grassy, earthy and flavorful with just the right hint of spice."

I vaped a lot of HHV back in the day. You could say that I went from a single order of "regular" juice, to WTA, to NET in that order. That's not to say I didn't sneak a period of about 6 months where I mostly snus'ed in there, though it was partially because of a job where it was easier to use a small portion of General than vape.

Still enjoy a stark portion once in a while, however. Works great for those establishments where you want a drink but can't vape due to local regulations, especially if traveling.

You may also try Wrangler from Gej. It comes pretty darn close to Marlboro Lights.

You can get a small bottle of tobacco absolute from several flavor vendors. Balkan TA is the best IMHO. A tiny bottle is a lifetime supply as long as you use it correctly.

For Virginia lovers I would recommend MOV's Full Flake Virginia. It is truly outstanding. MOV has a three bottle special, so if your going to try one, you may as well take advantage and get three. Americana is a coffee vape that is superb. Their 555 is pretty good also. Some other great juices NET and non-NET are:

GeJ's Turbo, High Octane and my favorite, Bull Durham.
W2V's Paris and Pure Smoke are fantastic.
Volt's - RY4 is my top vote for all RY4's.

Where do you buy your Balkan TA?

I've tried a few myself over time and found that most are the typical Nicotiana Tabacum, with the exception of the TA from Samara Botane ~ Nicotiana Rustica. Boy! Is that stuff bright! I can only put .3% (point 3 percent) of a 10% dilution in a mix or it will take over the mix in a big fat hurry!
