I'm not sure it's really "cherry", but maybe the only way my taste buds know how to interpret whatever it is.

I'm pretty sure that the original Gandy I got was THE original - perfect INDIVIDUAL top notes of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, - it was as if they were all differently weighted molecules that refused to mix together too much. It wasn't nearly as heavily chocolate as Serendipity (second Gandalf) was. Verdict is still out on Gandy III. There. I'm sure that cleared it all up now, didn't it! 
That's the original, but not the original. The original , was not obviously a pipe tobacco unless you were luce. The original was what I raved about and was sending everybody and their nephews samples of (and also starting threads about). The original that is being sold now is fine, but it ain't the original.
p.s. I bet someone is reading this wishing we would just go back to acronyms already!
p.s.2 Basically, the first Gandalf had a lower volume of extract, but in retrospect, it was perfect. I am sure someone will read this and wonder how less of the good stuff could make it better, but it was. Also, that is the reason why I used to proclaim that it didn't "need" steep time -- I was referring to a different juice, essentially.
They stopped making the original around early July, or some time around then. After that, they upped the extract. Unless they changed it again, but my last bottle (a month or so) was the second version.
Yep, that was the original. Wish I could get that one again - like you say Sage One, a little less of the good stuff. Wow! Did I really say that? Yes! I did!
I would feel weird going over to HHV's thread now (it's been awhile) and acting like I got pull, but as far as I am concerned, HHV is still one of the Top 5 in my book (thread, LOL). I spent a lot of time talking with Adam and other members for a long time, but after A+, I got waaaaaaaaay distracted. Personally, HHV and A+ are cousins, if not siblings -- I just so happen to dig the elder of the two more.
Yeah, the original was one of the biggest no-brainer vapes EVER! Yep, less of the good stuff makes it all better!

Looking at the original reviews (from Eleanor, Ohai, luce, me and billherbst) lets me know that I need to re-engage with Adam. I don't think it should just be a "special" order thing, but IMO it should be a menu item to order. Wish me luck. (I would really love to get my hands on it!)

Gandy 1 (2 or 3) as a menu item may not be obtainable regardless of whether Adam or any of us want it to be.
Last time I ordered Gandalf I was wondering if they could make it like they used to. They wrote that it was extracted at the same time as others. I just finished a 30ml bottle and it was a disappointment.....
They already have 2 (the current Gandalf) and 3 (Serendipity), adding Gandalf # 1 should be just about adding any item like another. The difference in the second and the first was all about adding more extract. The extract is not different per se (not talking about Serendipity), it is just more of it.
Serendipity is not necessarily a different amount of the extract, but the same extract with more time allotted for the extraction.

I just reached out to 1atom12 and I will let you all know how that goes. My fingers are crossed.
We have Gandalf #1, Gandalf #2, and Gandalf #3. We also have Serendipity, which is supposed to be the same as Gandalf #2, but it isn't. So technically it's Gandalf #4. I have 3 of those in my box (the only one I don't have is Gandalf #1), and they are all 3 quite different. You tell me.
