I agree with johni. Every coil gets gunked, just a question of how long it takes and how much flavor is lost from the burned on carbon.
That's my experience as well. My RDAs gunk up at the same rate as disposables. It helps to make small diameter, touching wrapped coils that look like EM and Cisco spec coils, and thicker wire seems to build up gunk slower too.
Bill's comment about "burned on carbon" is important. An atty that is kept constantly wet will go longer than one that keeps getting vaped close to dry. Don't let the stuff get burnt onto the coil. With disposables, I redripped at the first sign of flavor loss instead of waiting until the vapor diminishes. Same concept with rebuildable drippers; drip early and drip often (or SQUONK! often if that's the case).
