He's 62 years old, lost a lung to cancer and is still smoking. All other "stop smoking" methods have failed on him. He's interested in trying e-cigs after seeing me use them but I am unable to recommend a model or flavor of juice.

I let him take a hit off my 510 and he about choked to death. Keep in mind I smoked Marlboro reds for 20 years and I like tons of flavor and throat hit. He's been smoking Misty Lights for the last few years that probably would just taste like air to me.

Is there an especially "mild" tobacco flavor or even a different model that the 510 that would be light enough for him? I'm planning on buying the clearomizers for him just because they are so easy to fill and I just cannot see him trying to add drops to a carto or fumble with carts and atomizers. They seemed to also increase flavor and vapor over standard cartos so I'm a little afraid they might do the same to whatever juice he tries. Recommendations? Tips? Thanks.

I recently bought a sampler pack of liquid from want2vape.com. They have a wide selection of tobacco flavors. I found them to all be subtle, yet truly taste like tobacco. Their menthol was very strong, though.

Gear wise, you should get him something compatible with what you have. That way if something breaks he can use some of your backup supplies while you order new stuff for him.

Hi Clinton - sorry to hear about your dad losing a lung.

I would've thought a riva 510 to be ideal. With Cartomisers. I would get a low nic level liquid. Ry4 is nice and mellow with a nutty tobacco taste.
I'd get some 6mg nic level to try first. It will make him cough. It's a different way of taking nicotine that does it. Get him to take a few gentle draws. He may have to do it gradually. Once hes used to it then you can up the nic level to 12mg or 18 mg and it will sustain him through the early cravings.
Good luck. And post up to let us all know how you're both doing with it. If it ain't working we can all get our heads together and make loads of suggestions.

Most likely the reason he coughed is probably due to your nic level (using 24mg or higher?? has a bigger throat hit) or because he tried to direct draw the vapor in. Tell him to bring the vapor into his mouth first, then draw in... maybe after he's used to it he can direct draw. The other reason could be the PG... that you are using (some people can't vape it without coughing, but may be able to use it in a mix with VG once they get used to vaping later).

As for ease of use, the GoGo is a large cartomizer and nice long lasting battery. I like mine, but only use it when in the car for a longer trip. More info is here, with lots of links in the first post of this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...3-go-go-specific-thread-all-things-go-go.html

Ego Tank would be another that is fairly easy to use, see when it needs liquid. Big thing is to make sure the liquid is thin enough to wick (from either of these units mentioned... pure PG is best or maybe 80PG /20 VG though some say they use more VG without problems). Also, lighter colored liquids do better (the heavy particles tend to burn on the coil of these, so coffee and some of the other dark liquids can start to caramelize on the atty wire after just a carto/tank full). The Ego Tank needs to be snapped on well and twisted to make sure the needle pierces the tank right and a primer hit is needed on these (taking a draw without pressing the button) when you first start them up or after they've sat for a while. If you think he can remember that, it'd probably work well for him and you could just get extra tanks and fill them for him once a week if you think he won't want to fiddle with it.

Another option (cheaper for you to give him something to try out) would be the 510 tank atomizers https://www.cignot.com/product_p/51t-att-all.htm (buy some tanks too!!) or just buy an adapter for a cartomizer (Boge is a good one, and Maxx Fusion is a good cartomizer) and just put it on the 510 battery for him.

Just make sure he can vape your 510 without coughing each time before investing in a kit for him. A heavier VG mix (50/50 or may have to go with 100% VG) may help. Velvetvapors and bluemistvaping both sell sample packs where you can select each sample an the percentage mix and nic mg you want to try and you can try some different tobacco or even some fun fruit flavors (most people like Cherry when they start and it can be mixed well with tobacco flavors in an atomizer).

I would try starting him out with a big battery (like an ego or ego clone) and some xl clearomizers. I get my clearomizers from gotvapes (they call them fluxomizers) and they work great. I don't know what the other ce2 clearomizers are like but I THINK (don't quote me) that gotvapes are slightly different. Oh and the old no.7 tennessee tobacco I got from nicotine nirvana was DELICIOUS and yes pretty mild. Though I don't know I went from smoking reds to these and it had enough throat hit for me so it might still be too rough for your father. Maybe try a lower nicotine level? hope this helps.

Everyone coughs the first time they try an ecig. It takes a little practice is all.

I know he's down on lung capacity- so I'm almost thinking higher nic juice so that he won't have to vape as often. With something like 6 mg he'd have to have it plugged into his face all the time, and maybe still not get enough nic from it.

Menthol might be nice for him.
