I was a heavy smoker for years. I made the switch 3 months ago and never looked back. I started with high nic level and now at the bare minimum of nic in my liquids. Everytime I ordered new e-liquid I would just drop a level in the nic. Next order will have 0mg of nic. It has worked for me and no withdrawls as of yet.

i see nothing wrong with vaping being a non smoker, and i dont understand why people have a hard time with it. so your supposed to pick up analogs first then switch? chances are if you have the desire to smoke or vape your going to do so... so why not skip the smoking all together? thats just my opinion.. i will agree on the fact that you should just stay simple for your first setup a blister pack or a full ego kit.
if you end up trying it before making your purchase somehow and really enjoy it i would say go for an ego twist because you will be happy with this for longer at little more cost

Congrats! Just curious what nic level did you start. My dad is a heavy smoker of Marlboro Reds and I'm planning to mix him 24mg.

I couldn't agree more with you but I did appreciate people who were concerned. As a non-smoker, I even thought what-if this is a gateway to analogs...... I've read that smokers have been self-medicating themselves with nic and when they try to stop, it makes them depressed or mean.

I've been experimenting with the EVOD kit which is like the ego twist. I'm actually going to use the extra EVOD clearomizer that came with the kit with the Zmax. I really like the bottom wick on them and it's simple to clean and maintain....and inexpensive. I got the kit at Stormy's Vapor for $50 and the Zmax from Varitube since it came as a kit with battery, charger, and case.

Well, come on, most of the folks here are ex-smokers who--in general--regret the hell out of the decision to pick up smoking. I don't want anybody to do what I did. It was stupid of me. I wish I could go back in time and slap the cig outta my mouth.

(Very time travelly kind of stuff. A disembodied hand reaching outta the void to smack me when I lit up. Freak myself out. :) )

Like Flex here is a non-smoker. The thought of him picking up a nic addiction gives me the willies. It's a Bad Thing. Been there, done that. Of course my opinion is "don't go there".

Addiction is not a thing to be played with in general. If somebody asked you if they should get mixed up with <insert any highly addictive, illegal street drug here>, would you say, "Sure! Why not?" I doubt you would.

Nicotine is highly addictive. You're not just making a decision that will have an effect on next week, it's a decision that can effect the entire rest of your life. I haven't quit nicotine. I don't think I can. Ever. There are hints in the literature I've run into that there are some of us that have a predisposition to a permanent addiction to nicotine. That we can never quit. That's one major decision I made back when I was young and stupid (stupider?). I had no idea.

And once I figured out what I had done, it was too late.

Now, this is just a web forum. We can't actually make anybody do anything. But when people ask, what should we say? "Nicotine is great! I love it! Try some!" Well, it is great. It triggers dopamine. That's great stuff. We're talking about manipulating one of the most fundamental, crucial neurotransmitters humans have. You got outta bed this morning because dopamine. Know that feeling of "accomplishment" you get when you complete a task? That's dopamine. Feel better about yourself because of something you did? Dopamine. It's the brass ring of neurotransmitters. It's the "win" chemical in the brain. See an athlete dancing in the end zone over a touch down? Dopamine. Politician ecstatic over winning an election? Dopamine. Feel that, "ah, that's nice" feeling after cutting the lawn? Dopamine.

That's why it's so addictive. How many times does a smoker inhale in a day? Each one is a little "reward". Hit after hit after hit after... until it's possible the natural production of dopamine is actually damaged. Which would explain the depression and listlessness people get during nicotine withdrawal (and why some of us may never be able to quit nicotine).

This is just a web forum. I ain't gonna advise somebody to make a life changing decision. I'm just not that wise.

If I were wise, I would never have started smoking to begin with...

You have no idea.

My nic addiction is so strong, when I tried to quit, people who originally cheered me on bought me packs and encouraged me to start again.

(Well, I have a mean streak from my dad's side of the family. Normally, it don't show. Take my nicotine away? Run. Just run.)

Yep, my dad probably has a strong addiction. He's been smoking since he was a kid. When I present the e-cig to my dad, I'm not going to tell him it's to quit smoking but rather something he can do in combination. And when he finds the right flavor, nic strength, and/or the right vaporizer, he can make the decision to get off the analogs...this was advice I got from a sales person. What would be good nic strength to start on?

That's hard to say. It varies widely between folks. I ran into a guy here on ECF that had a similar habit to mine when he smoked but we went in opposite directions in nic level in vaping. I went lower, he went higher. I have no idea what the difference is.

But I wouldn't go higher than 12 for somebody new (technically 12mg/ml or 1.2% depending on who you're talking to). Despite being a fairly heavy smoker, I gave myself "vaper's tongue" at 24. You'd think a heavy smoker would need to go high on the nic. Didn't work out that way for me. Dunno why. Go high, though, you could ruin the first time out and he may not like it at all.

I agree with the sales person. Make it something "interesting to try". You're doing 0 nic vaping for the tastes right? Well, the taste is what got me going. Cigs are boring. Same taste over and over and over. Vaping, there's all kinds of variety.

I stumbled into this by sheer accident. I was buying my regular carton, saw the Blu disposables, bought one on impulse just to try out this "e-cig" thing. Once I figured out to "puff" more like a cigar instead of inhale like a cig (like to choked that first inhale... I always inhaled deep when smoking, deeper than average apparently), I liked the taste. So I kept fiddling with my "new toy" right? It was nine hours later I realized I hadn't touched a cig. And I know it was nine hours because it shocked me so much, I dug up the receipt to check the time. :)

And the tastes and variety available is what kept pulling me further from cigs until I just didn't want them anymore. I blew through all the Blu flavors then found ECF and discovered buying liquids then how you could buy plain nic juice and flavorings and play around with things yourself. Heh, I have about seven clearos ready in the cabinet and rotate them around during the day. Cigs, you can't switch flavors out like that. My new morning routine is picking out a flavor while the coffee is brewing. :)

But if it's going to work for him, I'd bet it'll be for the reason you bothered with the stuff. It tastes good. I think that's the thing to "talk up" if anything.

Didn't happen all at once for me. I slowed way, way down at first but it was around six weeks before I stopped smoking completely. And maybe around two, three weeks in before I could see myself not smoking anymore. And a lot of that was the whole flavors thing. It was just... fun. :) Sampling different flavors, finding ones I liked, things like that. Cigs started looking so boring and harsh and bad tasting in comparison...

hope your old man gets of the darts

Thanks Mitergreen. It will be a miracle if he quits. I've spoken to people who tried e-cigs and they hate it or just have no interest. I found out about vaping from a family member who used to chain smoke. It worked for him and he now hates analogs. I guess everyone is different. But compared to nic pills, patches, and gum, many on ECF have had a high success rate with e-cigs. I have also seen comments that the MODS or APV are the closes to the real thing.

You never know. Nobody believed I'd quit. Especially not me...

Thank you for sharing your testimony Mkbilbo.

When I was testing flavors at a Dallas vapor shop the sales person said, "Btw that had 18mg of nic."

It seemed like I was vaping with 0 nic. However a friend did comment that my voice was deeper. I did feel more relaxed and less rushed especially in that Dallas traffic. :) Now I think about it, I didn't have road rage. =)

I got my zmax in the mail today. It took a good minute to figure it out but once it was configured, it was like a party in my mouth. Compared to the EVOD Kit, it produced the same amount of vapor but it tasted sweeter. The EVOD was 1.8 ohm so I wonder if I try a 2.5.

There was a thread on "deals and steals" and someone posted Fasttech as the place to go for great bargins. Gonna give them a try and get an EVOD clearomizer, some 2.5 heads, extra batteries, and other accessories...and maybe try their selection of ejuice.

I'm glad you found a set up that you enjoy. I'm an Evod fan myself. I love the fact that they're what I call a "fill and vape" device. My coils are low ohms 1.8 or 1.9 and I vape it at 3.8 volts when they're new and then at 4.0 volts when they're in use for a while. I always have two flavors going at the same time (my palate sort of turns off if I vape one flavor exclusively) and I'm on my third week of the last two coils I'm currently using. It helps when you rinse the coils every couple of tank fills. Because they're small tanks, the juice doesn't burn the coils as much and the wick is small so there's less wick to grab on to the gunky juice. It's just pure flavor.

Enjoy!:vapor:

I have four kids that all learned to smoke because I did.
Two have managed to quit on there own as they have kids and so on.
The other two are Stoners and would never quit smoking either kind even one has a daughter.....
Period.
Neither would I.
Period.

Then I found out that 36mg nicotine vape juice in a rig that delivers ENOUGH of a hit satisfied me (and my two stoner brats btw) enough that I have not had a smoke since last Xmas when I got us all our own rigs.

So I do not recommend you do ANY vaping yourself.
Period.
PERIOD.

But I love how well you love your Dad and want him to get with the program.
There are E-juices out there (amaretto for sure) that actually EAT plastic and many of the tanks are plastic so be aware of that.

That being said your Dad will not want to fiddle around, he will want a convenient non-techy solution.

So my rig IS that except I have plastic tanks which is Ok as I now know how to avoid the poison flavors that eat plastic.

I use eGo-c TWISTS 650mah( shorter for going out) and 900mah (longer for at home) and Kanger T2 tanks with 1.8ohm coil heads in them.
All good and every flavor works great with some needing more voltage and some less and most just a bit more.
I also use 80%Pg to 20%VG mixes as those burn cleaner for me. (I can even clean my coils in alcohol and reuse half of them),that saves money as coils cost too.

Get your Dad to come here and read around a bit.
When he does get him to try it out using 36mg nicotine or at least 24mg to start with as that will satisfy his physical addiction.
Really it's important.
He can work his way down to ZERO nic over time if he wants to and he will because who doesn't want to be FREE?

After he KNOWS Vaping works he can then get into DIY himself (DON'T YOU DARE! NOT EVEN AT ALL! PERIOD. Slaps FLExJuice with a fish. PERIOD!) at mtbalervapor.com or some other similar place.

Good Luck and Gobless.

32yrs. My dad isn't very savy with electronics. I don't think he knows how to operate a microwave. :) I figure he will ask me how to use it plus I can vape with him using no-nicotine juice.

Why don't you go with him to the shop near you and let him try it out there. He could get some excellent advice as well as an opportunity to try many flavors. It would be a fun outing for both of you.
