one quick noob question, what happens if thiers no oxidation or no resisntance would it not heat up? why oxidation is needed?

question again why would you want a very low resistance? you where aiming for .3-.5 Ohms right? also have you tried it with a normal e-cig battery? seems 10A is kinda high right? would a normal 2400mah 3.7 volts run on it? how long?
Very interesting. The ideas that have started popping up lately are simply mind blowing!
If the battery can deliver enough current, then the .3- .5 Ohm resistance works. A battery like NiMh or NiZn can, but the Li-ons can't supply the current. Great work pailpoe, you don't sleep long do you?

ive read in german forums thier having problems with oxydation so they need to change SS mesh every couple of days are you having the same problem? great great work

I am not sure what to ask for (in English) to find the gold plated part you use though.

Here's where you can get the Fein Metal receptacles in USA. Or you can go to Fein in Germany and go to their export section. I don't know if that is the exact part number. I didn't look into it.
pailpoe, I am really interested in the long term performance of your ATO. As there is no mechanical bond between the receptacle and the mesh, I am curious if residue from the e-juice will decrease the connectivity between the receptacle and the mesh. If so, I wonder if that additional resistance will also be self limiting or if it could simply be removed by moving the mesh every now and then.
Perhaps I should have been more clear when I originally mentioned oxidization. Stainless steel is stainless because of a surface coating of Cr2O3. It is normally self healing and self limiting. I don't know what all the conditions are that cause it to no longer become stainless and start producing iron oxides. So, the oxidization that is providing the resistance is already there and normally wouldn't increase.
It really is an elegant device you have created. Please keep us informed of how the testing goes. My guess is this isn't an "hours" ATO but a "100s of hours" ATO you have created.
