I've been noticing lately that the charger is sometimes taking a while to recognize the battery when I pop a Mini on it.

It could be the charger, it could be the mod itself. I suppose you'd know if you had more than one mod that can go on the charger. If it does the same thing with different mods, then it sounds like the charger.

For me, it was my relatively new Dani Box Mini that was the problem. I knew this because I had another Dani Box Mini that charged just fine.

I'd be worried to think the charger could be a problem at some point too, considering the cost of it.

It's still under warranty, but the prospect of shipping it to Germany doesn't thrill me.

I still my shipment under status: Non-EU shipment - preliminary check for import. It's been that way in Germany since July 22. The one thing I didn't do and I wonder if I should have, I didn't put the invoice on the outside of the box, I put it inside the box with everything else. The only thing I put on the outside of the box was a shipping label and a note that said “Defective device returned under warranty. No commercial value.”

So I am left to wonder how long I should wait before I check on the status. Hopefully it doesn't get lost somewhere, I would be crushed, considering the cost of it and the fact we are so close to PMTA and vape mail ban.

I think the Dicodes charger is an excellent charger. But I also think they could have done a lot better on designing the charging contacts. Unlike any other Dicodes device I own, it simply requires fiddling around with it.

At first, I'd set a mod on the thing and walk away. But after a few experiences like you just mentioned, I stopped doing that. To feel sure it was going to do a good job, I'd often rock the mod in the slot or even insert and remove it a couple of times until I verified the display showed what I would have expected.

I guess there's a chance there's a problem with your mod, but I've never run into anything like that in 4 years. I'd bet that those little pointy contacts didn't get a good connection to that gold strip on the board. Remember that the charge rate (and shut off) depends on the level of charge it sees in the battery. So if that measurement was off, it could have easily resulted in less than a full charge.
This was more or less my thinking. For the last little while, I've had to fiddle to get charging to begin. Perhaps I didn't fiddle enough one time.

I have three Minis but am only using two at the moment. Still, I have to work a bit to get charging to start with both of them, so my money's on the charger being at fault.

Fingers crossed that you get word your Dani is on the move soon. I'd be nervous, too.

I personally have started just charging them with an external charger if I have the time. If I want a fast charge then I use the dicodes charger, I used the dicodes one for around a year, and it just seemed to me that my LG batteries did not last as long as they should have. I am probably wrong, (I usually am) but I suspect the the 2 AMP charging was wearing them down, in my external charger I usually charge at the .5 AMPS setting. :|

I'm beginning to think the same. The thing is, I hate fussing with the Mini's battery cap, which is why I shelled out for the charging station in the first place. I just wish there were some way to slow down the charging rate on the thing (like you, I prefer to charge my batteries at .5).

Oh no. Because I have a dani 21700 that....

I can't say it.... It's not good.... I don't even have an address right now.....

Damn it. Why do I suck so HARD.

People should make me mods made of carrots. I would pay good money for something made to be disposable.

So far so good with the ah charger and the other two. More or less. LOL.

I'm not really ready to say yet, other than I really NEED my charger to work, and I also need the battery inside it to have LONGEVITY.

I can't even send it in for repair and YEAH it's under warranty but OH NO IT ISN'T they are gonna take ONE look at the battery cap and be like, "Uh huh. I don't think that is normal wear and tear."

Something happened. I DIDN'T cross thread it, but I THINK I dropped it HARD enough to distort the battery cap in the MOD area and I could not get it out and my husband did with BRUTE FORCE and that was like ALSO bad except I got a battery back in there....but UNLESS like, Dicodes can work miracles (and I don't EVEN have a PO box yet and it's EXPENSIVE until you buy a house which is THEN SUPER EXPENSIVE. OMG. OMG.

Yeah it's a problem.

It's NOT the battery cover, I tried the other 21700 I have to see if it fixed the problem. I couldn't get it to work it's the threading INSIDE the mod.

To add insult to injury it kind of made it so the OTHER 21700 is sort of hard to open.

Like I said, it's not GOOD. There will be no getting that battery out by ME, I started shrieking "Stop, stop it doesn't have to be that TIGHT" LONG before the husband stopped tightening it. I mean for all I know the battery is like CRUMPLED in there.

Like I said, it's a problem or rather it is MY problem but we talked to a realtor today and she was all like "Nah you gonna be fine on the mortgage."

We shall see. People can SAY that but until a BANKING official capable of ISSUING a mortgage like, says it, I have doubts. Says it in writing with official seal is even better.

One of the things to remember with Dicodes is that, as well made as they are, the shells are aluminum.

The end caps are massive hunks of steel, but those aluminum bodies will deform with not too much force, say a solid drop at the wrong angle.

It pays to avoid banging them around.

You might want to take them to a precision machinist, and see if he can figure out what is out of true.

Maybe a gunsmith, or a horologist.

That's not a bad idea I guess. My husband did that with the 510 pin threading one time in an RTA he machined it to smooth it out.

The dicodes gonna be considerably harder though. I think it will be taking a trip to Germany at some point, then get seized by customs. Etc.

Dicodes Dani Box Mini I sent for repair is stuck in German customs I believe. Going on 17 days now. Dicodes said "This means that this is a NON-EU consignment and at the moment it is checked for import."

I got tracking on the 14th for mine to return to me via DHL though I sent it USPS.
My tracking for shipping to them still shows 'In customs'.
Just never updated.

There's hope for yours as well!

I've been noticing lately that the charger is sometimes taking a while to recognize the battery when I pop a Mini on it. And sometimes it has said a battery is full when I know it can't be, and, if I remove the device and then put it back on, the voltage will be much less than the maximum 4.14 to which the station charges and charging will recommence.

Clean the contacts in the charger base, worked wonders for mine.
Do not, REPEAT NOT, attempt to clean the contact in the mod.
Well, unless you are hankering to see how long it takes to ship to Dicodes and return anyway.
Trust me on this.

Update on German Post - I'd returned a mod to Dicodes on 8/4. It spent 3 days in Chicago and then arrived in Germany on 8/9. No movement at all for a week. Finally this morning it shows customs clearance and a transfer to another site not specified, but from what I can tell it's about 200 miles away from Herne (Dicodes) at this point.

I was starting to get a bit concerned - and it's not there yet - but I'm thinking I got pretty lucky.

It's nice to have tracking, but it's still vague enough that you're not sure of what's going on. Until this morning, the last entry was that it departed Frankfurt on 8/9. But I didn't know if that meant it had just left the airport and had to go to customs, if it had cleared customs in Frankfurt, or why nothing happened in a week's time. Now I can see that it left Frankfurt to go to Steyer, which is apparently the customs center.
