The profile panel and "Members Online Now" panel to the right of the screen display totally redundant data (I was going to call it information, but it's not even that) and to have them floating just adds to the redundancy (and chews my CPU process time and is really annoying as the screen scrolls up and down while the javascript tries to work out where the panels should be ... all for zero value) ... and of course chews through 35% of the display area (which on my 11" screen is not a lot).

Doubtless you are correct. However, the old system always put "you" first, no matter how many. as in: you, x, y, x, and 17 others like this post...

Thru the posts sup. What's the main and practical function of the like in the first place? First and foremost to ack what was said. You're received the comm, you get it.…with some unspecified appreciation or regard as to its merits. If you can't transparently see whether or not you've done this, that main functionality is lost. It (rating) becomes a task in and of itself. Utility yields to entertainment value. Both suffer.

Also, I often use likes like bread crumbs to monitor my progress in a thread. Too often I'll respond directly to a post via an email link and disrupt the read count. This will no doubt lead this absentminded reader to overlook some posts.

Good luck. :)

Well, with my high speed broadband, I am noticing next pages taking a bit longer to load (I'm sure that's just until the servers are all updated, load balanced, and whatnot) but reading is taking me way longer. I'm still struggling with the issue of choosing what should be the proper response on posts should be and it's really slowing up my reading. Still, it is fun.

I am much like @MacTechVpr , I rely on likes as a way to get back into a thread. I always have to turn off "watch thread" as I end up with too many emails sent, which messes up my whole inbox management strategy. I think I'm still getting alerts on any type of response, like, disagree, rainbows, so I guess that's not a big issue.

I do have a feature request separate form the controversial thing now that this is being discussed, but can there be some way of having unwatch a thread be a default rather than having to select it for every thread I post in? I've made changes in the settings/profile like notify me only for PMs, but it doesn't seem to stick. Is this already a feature I should have asked about way before this, but is it possible or am I just missing some obvious setting I should be able to find myself?

Maybe it's because I'm dull and slow, but I find I never use the stuff like watched threads, new posts, and whatnot and simply navigate and read by the basic forum/subforum look at everything method.

You can watch threads w/o getting email notifications. You have a choose when you click-on/select 'watch thread'.

@Oliver I am on the original dark theme and no longer get a hover over tool tip preview of a thread's OP content like I used to get. Hopefully it is something that can be fixed as it helps me to decide if I want to read a thread if the title is vague when browsing the new posts. Does it work on the new themes?

Hover still works for me on Dark. Everything is taking a few seconds longer on my computer.

Another question, in the forums some threads are now marked at a like thumb X a number. It seems sort of random. Is this a bug or a new feature I don't understand yet?

It's the number of "likes" in the first post of the thread.

Sometimes I wish I didn't either. :D

Searches have gone wonky for me. Local thread searches go into a crashing loop. No likey.

Good luck. :)
