I think Jim has something in the works that'll probably replace your Bam ;)
Not to mention that he might have an atomizer to go along with it!

Whatever Jim makes will indeed be grand. It would have to be since he set the bar with the DID

Hey Jim, hope your new PV will have awesome engravings. I love engravings.

Okay so my top coil turns red when firing, but my ohms (2.2-2.3) are stable on a 2/3 wrap 32 kanthal. If I move the top coil, it shorts out. Vapor is good, but occasionally I get a hint of burnt taste. Should I worry about it? Or just assume it isn't wicking to the top fast enough?

You have a short at the top if the top coil is turning red. Try making minor adjustments with a toothpick, and check the tension of the coil where it heads to the top post.

Killbride - Here's a handy calculator Tomcat put together. Might help ya with what ohms you should have.

PV Web Apps

A red top coil could mean you have too much air gap between the pos. post and the wick. This gap/wire needs to be as small as possible without letting the wick touch the pos. post. Also the top coil might have become too loose around the wick thus creating the same problem.

edit: Making a few assumptions and putting in your values into that calculator it looks like your ohms should be much lower, closer to 1.3 ohms. Your readings of 2.2-2.3 would indicate a short. If thats the case you might want to try re-oxidizing your wick.

oh 18 offcourse!
This is great news Jim, yet again you wow us with your devotion to all who have discovered nothing delivers like a DID. I have 2stds and a mini, and as time goes on I appreciate the build and simplicity more and more.
I have got the point where I rarely have to fiddle once I have made a new setup, any problems I had at the start were my user error, and there is such a wealth of wisdom and support from your followers that no-one and I mean no-one has an excuse to complain that they "can't get it working" ,unless they are too stubborn or shy to ask for help.
I consider myself very lucky to be able to enjoy such a great device that will last forever.
Now about that 18xxx mod...
Just can't wait.

I was under the impression a short would lower resistance, that's why shorts cause error codes on provari/vmax. Resistance drops causing too many amps from the device. (correct me if I am wrong, still a noob)

Regrettably I did not test the resistance before installing the coil. So even if I have the coil glowing evenly, and a stable resistance I still may have shorts?

Yes, this is correct but what I was saying is that your ohms should be much lower than 2.2-2.3 based on your wire/wraps.

idk... Maybe check all your screw connections to make sure they are tight?

Tony- Looks shaweeeet!
I want new toys to! :(
