Yes excellent... that's the direction i'm taking lately.... appreciate the share man...

I always assume I can learn more, new ways, experiment...challenge my ways...

Here's a pic I have handy of a pretty scrappy looking coil, but it vaped like a champ, and you'll get the idea:

PS, hard to see in that pic, but I always run the top coil clockwise around the positive post...

As long a it works. Don't over think it. It's like trying to go the speed of light. The closer you get the harder it gets.
some coils are better then others. Not worth pulling your hair out to get 2% improvement. It can be far from perfect and still give a great vape.
Look at mine all messed up.

I just took this cloud for you.

Haha nice! Yeah I redid my coil, got the negative touching the base better. What do you know, now the ohms are around 1.9-2.1

It's so strange how the coils can behave different yet appear so similar. This one is less stable in terms of resistance, when compared to my previous attempts. Because the resistance will jump to like 3.0-4.3 ohms then back down to 2. I'm gonna blame it on my 20 year old multimeter and shaky hands haha

Good for you!

I think one thing that is hard for a new genny user to understand is the fact that brand new. I'm talking about the wick and coil. Is not better. It takes a tank for it all to settle in and the you are good for a week. It will get coked up. I just use a piece of tp and squeeze the coil and wick with it still hooked up the big stuff will break off, then again about 1/2 tank latter your good for another week. When cant get the vapor out of it. The recoil. Hardly ever the wick. At least for me.

I hear all the time I used all my wire and I still haven't got a good one. Most likely the first one was good. Just needed to use it for a few hours. IMO

Wick and Coil observations:

OK, my latest recoiling and wick combo on my big DID as follows; 28 gauge Kanthal, 500 ss mesh, and mech mod Uranos. I just got my 28 gauge kanthal from Ebay seller. I was using braided coils prior. After reading the 500 mesh thread, I decided to try for a 5 wrap on 500 mesh, with big DID, and a fat solid wick. The ohms are reading 1.9, for me , my sweet spot. Taste and vape are great. I am currently using a 65/35 pg/vg, with low nic of 4 mg. Still getting TH and taste. Vaping a bit more, as I downgrade my nic level, but still great. The reason for this post is to tell all newbies, having trouble with coil hot spots, this was the simplest coil I have yet built. The thicker wire allowed me to build coil straight onto wick, rather than a screw. The coil, at this gauge, has excellent muscle memory, and stays put, plus once attached is very easy to manipulate due to its thickness. A good snug down of top nut, a tooth pick inserted between wick and center pole and a slight pry away to assure coils are not touching center pole, and its good to go. NO HOT SPOTS, easy peasey. Absolutely, much less fiddle than 32 gauge, less fiddle than 30 gauge. I tell you I can man-handle the coil and it does not warp or degrade, very forgiving, and no hot spots. I am careful to keep coil grounded until it begins its wick climb. I check with a multimeter and unlike most of my thinner coils that meter around the map before settling, this 28 gauge settles down quickly and cleanly and reads a steady 1.9 continuously. The wicking of 500 mesh is incredible, I can literally watch the juice levels drop precipitously. The 5 wrap coil creates great volume. I must credit bj43, from the 500 mesh thread, with precisely defining and experimenting the ideas I am now employing. It has improved the ease of my coiling and the satisfaction gained. I recommend all read the lengthy 500 mesh thread, located in the modder area, it is just chalked full of very strong ideas for all Genesis users, of course the finest being the wonderful DID product.

Jim, are you going to have your drip tips on the site again or were those a 1 time thing?

I will but some codes will be only in polished finish!
I know that if you see what I call B' at the quality check you will not believe it!
So I think that the clearence category will help me and many of you!

rick, have you tried 28 Kanthal on mini DID?
Anyways, what is the best setup for you (so far) for mini DID + Precise 18350?
So far 500 (40x70mm) and 30 wire works for me on Provari, but I think it can get much better.

No, on my mini I am running a 4 wrap of kanthal 30 for a 1.9 ohm, however, next time I coil it I will try a 6 wrap of kanthal 28 if I can manage it. So far the 30 kanthal, 4 wrap, 500 mesh is excellent on the mini/18350 rig. It is my travelling set-up, while big DID on the Uranos is my home bound kit.

So, I built my second wick and coil after getting serious about this. 400 mesh(have 500 on order),and whatever kanthal the did came with (32?). Coils heat more evenly, vape is better but not blowing me away. Just trimmed the 400 it came with, wick is still too skinny.did a 5 wrap, ohm meter is on order too. So all in all, a promising step in right direction.

Well, guys, I thought I was getting it. I really did. I had a steady coil going for a couple of days, and everything seemed peachy. Fastforward to this afternoon. Nothing would stop my coil from misbehaving. No amount of poking, prodding, and fiddling around would get that coil working right.

So I gave up. I put the DID down.

I vaped on my backup devices for a while, did some research, cleared my mind, and came back to it. Wrapped a fresh coil, metered it out at 2.5 ohms. Fiddled, got rid of the hot spots. Plonked the cap on. Tried a vape. Tasted hot again. Cap off. Sure enough, more hot spots. Poked, prodded. Still hot. Finally, I got fed up, stuck my microdriver/coil poker down the wick and yanked it vertical. Test-fired. No hot spots. Cap on, cap off. Test fire again. No hot spots. All the coils were lit up more evenly than I'd seen yet. Topped off my juice, took a vape, and ...

Me, in my best Keanu Reeves impression: Whoa.

NOW I've got it. Just hope I can duplicate the process when the time comes to change my coil.
