All I can say is Wow, just Wow Jim! I think you are getting faster. :toast:

Ordered yesterday at around 2:00 my time and it has already shipped and supposed to be here on Monday!

UPS Ship Notification

I'm a little afraid that Jim is going to get so successful that he may retire soon. LOL!

The good thing about Jim: he is most of the time not out of stock and doesn't manufacture only a few devices like some other manifacturers

Hey guys!! I like to tinker like the rest of you. I tore my Gemini apart to clean things up and decided to try an unoxidized wick. I boiled my 500 mesh for 15 minutes, dried it and rolled it tightly around a large paperclip. After rolling while still on the paperclip I wrapped my 4/3 coil of 28g onto my new wick very snuggly. I then adjusted the coils to space them evenly. After you remove the paperclip you can adjust the wick easily. I attached it to my now clean Gemini and filled it with juice. I then took a small paperclip and inserted through the top hole to the depth of the bottom coil and stretched the wick just where the coils are so none of the coil was not touching the wick. I fired it expecting it not to work but I was wrong. It works just as good as the oxidized wick. Didn't even have to fire any juice onto the wick. The only difference is my wick is gray and not black.

Hmmm, my question is how are you guys getting .28g Kanthal with 4/3 wraps and staying above 1.0 ohms. I have to roll a 7/8 wraps to get to 1.1- 1.2. What am I doing wrong or does that seem about right. What is a 4/3 wrap of .28g ohm out to be?

It all depends on how "fat" your wick is. Most of us here utilize the full size of the wick hole in the DID and make our wick sit snug in there. The fatter the wick the less coils you have to wrap to get the same ohms.

I just learned something. I took apart my switch to give a good "Bag 'o Donuts" cleaning and I noticed that the magnet that was stuck to the button was slightly off center. I removed it and re-attached it dead center. When I re-assempled the switch, instead of using a flat head screwdriver to tighten the contacts that screw into the delrin, I used my fingernail, like Tony does in the video, and tightened them, fingernail tight. Now the reason I took it apart was because it was mysteriously miss-firing maybe 1% of the time. Now the button moves smooth as silk, and so far hasn't miss-fired once.

Now two things seem to be in play here. First of all, don't over tighten the contacts. Secondly, I'm wondering if perhaps the off center magnet was hitting the side of the delrin button assembly. It's so much smoother now!
Thanks for the tips, Pete! You have a good eye.

Oh shoot. I forgot to boil mine yesterday. It's all Sam Fisher's fault. I'm going to set some to boil right this minute...
You have confirmed and inspired me to do so. If it doesn't work out, I'll be baaaaack...

Somewhere in PA on my Ultra Limited

Cool vid, fun to see where "chicken juice" comes from.

On a more serious note, you make that mix all the time and through experience skip every safety precaution folks should take. 30–60 mg (0.5–1.0 mg/kg) of nicotine can be a lethal dosage for adult humans and you're using 100mg/ml base? That means 5mg/drop (at 20 drops/ml) so 6-12 drops on the skin could be a fatal dose (and much less for a dog or cat...). Folks should measure accurately (especially anyone new to DIY'ing), wear gloves (nic does absorb through the skin), have a clean/safe work area and clean up appropriately/properly after mixing. I know you've already done the math to figure out your ratios, but new mixers must calculate/know the target numbers at least for the nic concentration.

I'm probably being silly, would just hate to see anyone get hurt.

That's good advice. Yes I do it the same way. Yes 100% nic. I will wear gloves. next time. Didn't think about it getting on my skin. If it does i have washed my hands right away Accidents can happen.

I think I'll delete the video and post a more responsible one next month. Don't want in encourage unsafe practice.

I believe it is 0.8 on the DID or 0.6 on the Gemini. The wick hole is much larger on the DID. I don't check ohms anymore since the Poldiac.

It works just as good as the oxidized wick does. It took about a half a tank or so before the flavor started to come though. I wanted to see if it would work and it did but I am not so sure I like it any better or worse than oxidizing. I will probably still oxidize so I don't have to wait on the flavor.

I boiled my SS last night. I roll up a silica wick in the center - curious if that will help the flavor come through without the wait. I'll post updates when I set up the DID.

I use Silica inside all my SS wicks. Personally, I find it wicks better and heats up quicker because you can use less ss.

Kudos to you Tony! As obnoxious as you can be sometimes, you are man enough to correct your wrongs. My kind of guy!
