I am using the porous ceramic. The 1/8" wick fits perfectly and works. I am still tinkering with the coil. The ceramic does not do low resistance well. Getting ready to pop a 32awg coil on it. Have done ribbon 1ohm and 30awg 1.4ohm so far.

I have some ordered through a co-op, should be here in the next couple weeks (haven't been in any rush). Rip did an interesting vid about setting up the porous ceramic with cheesecloth, although I'm not sure it doesn't defeat the purpose for me: How to wrap a coil on a ceramic wick! - YouTube

I appreciate you all not ridiculing me.

Miriam...you are a tart in my heart. :)

Uma....I'm glad you enjoyed the music, & I agree that metal bands just aren't the same these days. ;)

Tony...I'll bring out the classic rock Top 100 after I finish with the metal.

CW....I made up my mini DID with ribbon last night. It took some fiddle to trap the wire under the negative, but it's in there.

Jim...Thank you so much for the PM when you saw I had a problem. You are a man among men for your customer service. Now...where are the HyDID & the Poldi-brid? :rickroll:

Yeah i tried the 1/8 ceramic wick in the DID and my results after breaking 2 of them i learned to anneal the wire by puttin 1 end under the screw and holding tight other end with tweezers and flaming it with lighter. It gets real straight afterwards but to much flame will snap it.
Wraps much better then on the ceramic.
I wrapped the ceramic (no hotspots) and went thru numerous tanks breaking it in and e-liquid remained nice and clear.

Bad thing is it cannot keep up the wicking with my vaping habit 85pg/15vg DIY .
I have observed it in the normal tilt position with top cap off and fired it several times as if chain vaping and thats when the wick goes dry and the coils glow and taste gets harsh.

I also observed when first putting ceramic wick in my DID it does not self saturate itself in standing position like my mesh does in a matter of seconds without any fireing of coil. The mesh never goes dry for me.

Now somewhere on the forum i saw a video from Germany where a fella got a "White Ceramic sample" from a company there and demonstrated it and it worked great. He had it in the upright position and was doing multiple fireing of the coils and it would self saturate and never did it run dry.

So if this type ever comes stateside i will definitely try it otherwise my mesh works perfect for me and i no longer use the grey stuff.
Thats just my experience and have heard others say there FC2000 ceramic grey type wick work well .

Thank you for not burning down Jim/MMV because of it!
Most of us are old/wise enough to know sh•t happens, especially when Murphy has chosen to visit you and be so prominent present.

I've seen enough of your colleges trying to find someone to blame when things didn't go smooth,
so in my opinion you handled it pretty cool.

Still...1-0 for Murphy, so now I have to watch the next time to see you beat him...

Thank you. :)

I'm not a fire starter as a general rule.
Recognizing what each atty is capable of doing & trying to bring out its potential is a much better way of going about things.

I'm not sure if I have colleagues TBH.
Maybe counterparts. ;)

One(-ish) of those set up bases will be in my next order. This last order was for function.

Yay! UPS was early today. Often they don't stop by my place until between 6:30 and 7pm.
Crap! I have work to do today and really want to spend the next hour (hopeful optimism - we all know proper setup involves breaking in the wick and coil, undisturbed) putting together my new DID and swapping out the SS tube with pyrex on coreypay's Temon.

Is it just me - or does everyone have a tower of MMV mdf?

Shameful confession (and inadvertent setup base plug). I broke coreypay's Temon pyrex tube. I had the atty on my Provari (my temporary setup base), lubed the o-rings and slid on the tank over the base. Screwed on the top tank - which tightened the atty further onto the Provari. The temon atty sits down in a small well in the cap of the Provari so I had very little exposed metal to grab to remove it. Due to lube, the tank would spin and not unscrew from the Provari if I unscrewed gripped from the top. Force caused breakage.

I just learned something. I took apart my switch to give a good "Bag 'o Donuts" cleaning and I noticed that the magnet that was stuck to the button was slightly off center. I removed it and re-attached it dead center. When I re-assempled the switch, instead of using a flat head screwdriver to tighten the contacts that screw into the delrin, I used my fingernail, like Tony does in the video, and tightened them, fingernail tight. Now the reason I took it apart was because it was mysteriously miss-firing maybe 1% of the time. Now the button moves smooth as silk, and so far hasn't miss-fired once.

Now two things seem to be in play here. First of all, don't over tighten the contacts. Secondly, I'm wondering if perhaps the off center magnet was hitting the side of the delrin button assembly. It's so much smoother now!

Hey guys!! I like to tinker like the rest of you. I tore my Gemini apart to clean things up and decided to try an unoxidized wick. I boiled my 500 mesh for 15 minutes, dried it and rolled it tightly around a large paperclip. After rolling while still on the paperclip I wrapped my 4/3 coil of 28g onto my new wick very snuggly. I then adjusted the coils to space them evenly. After you remove the paperclip you can adjust the wick easily. I attached it to my now clean Gemini and filled it with juice. I then took a small paperclip and inserted through the top hole to the depth of the bottom coil and stretched the wick just where the coils are so none of the coil was not touching the wick. I fired it expecting it not to work but I was wrong. It works just as good as the oxidized wick. Didn't even have to fire any juice onto the wick. The only difference is my wick is gray and not black.
