there aint no way i'm gonna take the cap off to switch it out though:w00t:

LOL.. you know you're gonna have to take that cap off at some point though right?!

I got my shorty DID yesterday with Gorilla juice in it, and I've not taken that out yet, too. :)

I'll have some time tomorrow to mess with it. Maybe even to setup my very first coil.

Funny you should say that. Lots of folks have found some juices got better tasting and that some were better when you couldn't taste them. I think someone had said one of their favorites, "had a flavor that benefitted from the addition of polyfill...". I had completely given up on tobacco flavors, but love some of them now. On the plus side, DIDs are amazingly agile when it comes to flavor changes. Simply syringe out the old and fill with the new. A couple drops on the wick and the new flavor will come through very quickly.

+1 on 'quick change'. Most of my non-tobacco's are really strong in the DID. I mostly stick with RY4.

here is what i did: I folded the outside edge This should be step 2

(it doesn't seem to blend into the roll very well) I took the torch to the whole sheet on both sides several times This should be step 1

and dunked it in distilled water before rolling. Do NOT dunk at this step.

I dipped it in vg Do NOT add juice at this step.

and scorched it several times. That caught on fire so i'd have to dunk it in the water and blot it on the paper towel. I tried rolling it on a screw. I tried rolling it straight onto the wick. I tried the paper. I've re-lit the coil to make sure it's really oxidized. ( i pulled out my first oxidized wick this morning cuz i found small indents in it. I've tried 4/5 and 3/4. i'm angling up the bottom coil to keep it from touching the base and also the bottom screw. So, if you see something wrong in any of the above, please let me know. I started twisting the wick to try and shake out the hotspots. I add juice to the coils and burn if i can get it to start firing. I notice that the coils don't heat up right away if I don't have a hot spot. doesn't that mean it has something to do with my connections or the tightness of the wrap? I know i'm getting close

yup, i rolled it around the allen key. sometimes i seem to have the coil to far over to the left. on this last wick, i cut the bottom at a 45 degree angle. it's not touching the bottom

There is confusion on your oxidizing steps, Tiff.
Try this next time:
1. take a half sheet. (using scissors, cutting it in half)
2. torch it til turns red for a good 20-30 seconds.
3. fold the far edge, crease the fold tight like a piece of paper you're going to tear.
4. roll the non-folded edge over towards the folded edge. Using the Allen or a straightened Medium/lg paperclip or lg saftey pin to roll it on. CHECK SIZE TO WICK HOLE
5. Cut one end 45% reinsert the pin, and torch the dry rolled wick.
6. Dunk the hot wick in distilled water.
7. roll or pat with paper towel.
8. Repeat the Torch/Dunk/Pat 3 times. Making sure to burn the ends real good too.
9. Juice the wick
10. Light the wick with Bic Lighter
11. Let the fire go out naturally.
12. Repeat the Juice/light 3 x
13. Lucky number 13!! Insert into wick into your pre coiled coils OR wrap your coils onto the wick and then insert it all OR insert the wick and coil it.
13.b. Optional is to wrap a tiny cut of tobacco paper around the top part of the wick before coiling.
14. Cut the wick even with the post.

I hope this helps to clarify the mesh steps.
Scott, Igetcha69 shows the oxidization steps on some of his earlier videos. I believe he now uses the Jack Frost method, (step 1 & 2) skips steps 3-8 and jumps to step 9-13.
The majority of us just added step 1 & 2 to the rest of the list, to assure success. I over do it, and am happy. ElfStone and Scott under do it now and are happy. We'll get you happy too, Tiff, it's just a matter of getting the steps in order for you. Hang in there

ACTUAL STEPS you'll be taking:
The above reads like more work than it is.

1. oxidize dry, fold the edge, roll er up
2. oxidize 3x with the torch, dunk n dry
3. prime 3x with juice and bic lighter (no dunks!)
4. add coils one way or another.

Ha! See! It can be simpilified once every single step is clear.

edit: already have to come back and clarify step 2. by adding the word "torch"
edit: added check Size to Wick Hole
edit: added Cut mesh using scissors (or anything that cuts nicely, really)
edit: added cut top of wick evenly with center post.

Rant is not good. It's not Jim's fault you have not received it yet. The postal system has it now. Mine sat in customs for quite along time. Did I complain?? No. Most people wait from 2-3 weeks after it has shipped. Far as asking for a refund - that is unfair.

I've had two packages arrive from Greece this week. They took three days in total from payment to delivery.

Just because you didn't complain doesn't mean to say that others should follow your example.

ok, i gave up on setting it up on the provari and now am attempting to do so on the silver bullet. still no fire. I unwrapped the coil and did the fold. The wick was working just fine the first time i had it set up, so i don't think that's my issue. I know it looks close in the pic, but the wick is not touching the screws. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe it is just the photo quality but honestly your wick does not look oxidized enough. When I create one for a genesis it is black like night.

Thats wat i been seeing on a couple pictures here allready, i started to wonder if mine was wrong because of my cheap 20 dollar torch. My wick is pitchblack to, if you scroll back trough the thread a bit, you see alot of grey wicks, even "worse" then this one.
In jims video you see the wick turning blue while hes burning it, i never get it to that point, glowing orange is best i can do with my torch.
I had better results when making the fold from the wick facing the post to.
See some frayes at the top from your wick so i think the bottom from your wick looks the same?
Maybe a good idea to not let your wick touch the bottom of your tank.

This may be a bit of an odd question but I haven't seen any mention of it yet. Perhaps it is common knowledge for most but I lack common sense. What are you guys using to cut the ss mesh and the wire when building the atomizer wick and coil? Would my thread snips that I use at work be sufficient?

Agree the key is to get it as dark as possible. I don't have a torch. I use my BBQ. I use the side pot burner. Keep glowing it red hot Look closely at it while its in the flame for the hairs Cut them off. It's not so much how many times. As when it is nice a evenly burnt.

As I have not seen anyone post this yet for Tybin, I thought i'd just throw in my 2 cents here too.

As Jim has stated somewhere in this thread make sure that your bottom coil lays flat on the base until it gets to the wick hole and only then start moving up and around the wick, in other words ground it as long as possible.

On a personal note, i used to get a lot of hotspots near the top-coil until i read this and brought it in to practice myself.
