I was a 1 1/2 pack a day I could not completely quit until I got a genisis. Don't listen to the nay sayers about genisis. It hard to quit on the carts. People do. Get a mechanical mod that takes a 18650 and a genisis atty. you will save lots of money in the long run and it will work for you. You don't need a provari. And to tell the truth for a really good vape. The provari is not the best.
Check out mmvapors. Yes I have one and I love it. Quit smoking with it so I am partial
This is not a toy or a show off device. Its a lucky strike of the vape world. And that's what you need to enjoy so you won't want the stinky cancer stick. Good luck.

Just as important, if not more so, than finding the right mechanical gear will be to find a couple of juice flavors that you won't mind using all day long. You WILL NOT find a flavor that tastes like a cigarette. Any cigarette. It's just impossible to duplicate the taste of smoke and burning tobacco leaves.

The vast majority of us have found a couple, or a few, or several flavors that we enjoy vaping. There are an unlimited number of flavors to choose from. From fruit, candy, deserts, coffee's, as well as menthol and tobacco flavors. The tobacco flavors will not taste like a cigarette, but from what I understand the aroma will remind you of when you open a fresh pack of cigarettes, or that of a cigar or pipe.

Flavor preferences are extremely subjective and personal. What one person likes another will not. We can only offer what we like, but is no guarantee that you will like it also. I finally found that my favorites are coffee and fruit flavors, with a cinnamon flavor thrown in there to help change things up.

The best and least expensive way to find nice flavors is to find vendors that offer sampler packs. These will be smaller bottles of three or four flavors. If you find you like any, just order more in a larger size bottle.

I happen to prefer to order my juices from vendors that use all natural and all organic flavorings. I will provide the links to these so that you can look over the variety available.

Organically Flavored E-liquid | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes

Natural & Organic E-liquids - Home page Dripeez

Vaperite | Organic and Natural Flavored Electronic Cigarette E Juice

I have to agree with everything Bad has said except for one thing. I vape mostly tobacco and coffee flavors. The taste and aroma of the tobacco juice do not remind me of anything like an analog. Most people I know don't like what I vape, but then I really enjoy what they vape. Like he said taste is so so very subjective to the person on the vaping end. My go to juice is from HHV. I have several that I can change out during the day. I never vape the same juice all day. I keep changing it up all day so I don't get burned out on just one.
Your taste in juice is gonna be the hardest part of what your looking for. But trust us all. You will find it. Just get the samples so you don't waste a lot of cash. But that's already been said. :toast:

So hopefully by now the OP--if not scared away--realizes everybody differs.

I needed variable voltage, 22 mg/ml liquid, and a CE3 clearto to finally quit the analogs.

My mother did it on a plain old 808 cartomizer and a cigarette look-alike. She upgraded to a Volt X2 later for more battery life.

You will notice a difference in your coughing the next morning... well I did anyways. I was a least a pack a day smoker and would wake up every morning(right before a cig) and literally( and excuse me as this my be disgusting but true) used to cough until I threw-up and was not not done coughing until I did this.

Glad to know it wasnt just me although mostly it was just dry heaving

Agree that Provari is not the best. IMHO the Precieseplus is the BEST. Lifetime transferable warrenty that even covers the finish. Add a kicklet and your set to go. You'll have to will it to your grandkids. LOL. Cost keeps me from getting one. I'll just stay with what I got.
It doesn't matter what you use as long as you quit the analogs. Bottom line. You can do it with a plain ego if you want to. Or you can spend a few hundred dollars for something fancy. Just find what works for you.

Yes. It's the everybody is different so when you buy some juice try to spring for 36 mg, 24 mg, 18 mg, and 12 mg.
Then choose a 50/50 pg VG mix for any one of those and a 80/20 pg VG mix, and a 20/80 pg VG mix.
Get a fruit, a tobacco a candy and a drink flavor. That ought to keep ya busy!
Might be a bit much ats a first order but it paints the picture.
And why it seems so many people just keep on perfecting their vaping here on ecf? Probably they wouldn't be on here much if they had used vaping to quit. They have moved on. But those who do it for pleasure represent most the posters I guess. And like what happened with me. The last time I quit digs I used Nicorette gum. It got in my head that since I was no longer harming body like when smoking I could just chew it whenever I wanted. So I did. And I wanted to chew it a lot! The same amount for 10 years. The gum is not all that exciting but it helped me to keep nicotine around. It's really not such bad stuff in small amounts. You'll read all that and about everything and so on. But if you really don't like having a crutch you might be one to just eliminate it. That too saves money, unless you replace nicotine craving with something else that costs. Compulsive shopping maybe, gambling, or.... Welcome to ecf!

I was right at a pack a day for around 28 years. My first stab at vaping came pretty close. I started with a Blu kit (not recommended) and their version of "light". It immediately dropped me down to one analog in the morning and 2 in the evening. For me, I figured out I needed 11 or 12mg juice to completely kick the analogs.

I have a few regular automatic 510 batteries that I now attach CE3 XLs to for my "mobile" units and a collection of Spinners & Twists (dumping the twists for the spinners) with Kanger MT3s & Vivi Novae for my home & office.

I find myself grabbing an analog from my still smoking neighbor once a week or so and each time it makes me want to throw up. Not sure why I continue to do this, but it does make me so happy I gave it up!

My cough dropped significantly right away, even while I was having my 3 or 4 analogs a day. Took about 3 weeks to get my nic level correct, then the analogs and the last bit of cough both went away.

In addition to the overall "I feel so much better!" effect, there is also the return of my taste buds. I think that's a big reason I'm not really in a hurry to quit vaping. I truly enjoy the experience. The vapor and throat hit I enjoyed with smoking is there, plus I can really zap my taste buds at the same time. All without bothering anyone else or smelling like an ashtray.

Good luck to you.

You have all of the newbie questions lined up in a row.

I can only give you my personal experience. Vaping probably is not as healthy as nicotine abstinence. However it is certainly better than carbon monoxide, arsenic, benzene, and other unhealthy friends found in cigarettes. Since quitting cigarettes, my cardio has drastically improved (I am a gym rat) so my lungs are working better. I no longer have a smokers hack. Tastes sensations have returned. I do not smell like an ashtray.

Other than ritual, I do not see any reason to not give it a try. With $100 dollars or less the people on this forum can build you a solid quit kit.

Exactly, it's finding what works for you! My first entry was a KR8 product (Halo G6, automatic batteries) with 24 mg carts of tobacco flavor, upgrade was 900mah eGo with CE5 and 24 mg honeydew melon flavor. The smokes were done and done and now I'm playing with other flavors just for fun. I use the G6 while driving and during outdoor activities, the eGo while at home -- convenience and personal preference.

I have been looking at the ProVari and dont really care about the cost. BUT it is so confusing trying to figure out what accessorys I need. I just want to quit smoking and if I continue vaping then I can get all the wazoo accesories!

Thanks for listening,

Steve

As you have probably gathered by now it is a process. I wouldn't sweat getting the perfect e-cig right out of the gate. The cigarette sized e-cigs do serve a good purpose for being something you are more familiar with as you transition. Skipping a few steps may save money if you would have gone there anyway, but you really can't tell until you try.

The general wisdom is to celebrate the cigarettes you don't smoke with vaping rather than beating yourself up for the ones you do. Eventually many people like vaping so much better than smoking that the transition is easy. Others are not so lucky.

You'll be saving enough by not buying cigarettes that you'll be happy to upgrade to something else if needed. You learn stuff every step of the way that helps you hone what works for you, your budget, your lifestyle, and where and when you vape. Once you figure it all out, they go invent something new anyway.

Just pick one, get something adequate and start vaping. Accept that no matter which you buy there's a 80% chance you'll be upgrading before too long. It's electronics after all.

Hi pilot. I'm a newer vaper myself. I got my first personal vaporizer in December of 2012. I had been smoking for more than 32 years, more than 2 packs a day for about 10 years, and I had absolutely no intention of giving up my cigarettes. Every time I had tried to quit it had meant unrelenting misery until I started smoking again, so I had seriously decided never to try to quit again. I only got the personal vaporizer to try to cut down on my smoking expenses.

I'm one of those vapers who quit accidentally. The day I got my first eGo-C setup in the mail I only smoked 2 cigarettes and I was really surprised. The first week I smoked one pack, and by the end of the month I was smoking one cigarette every few days. I still have a half full pack of cigarettes from the beginning of January sitting in my freezer...just in case I decide I want one. I haven't wanted one in weeks though. Compared to my vapes they just taste and smell really nasty, and I have had zero negative side effects from quitting this time. I never noticed any increase in my coughing, and it pretty much stopped completely in early January. I think I might have had some withdrawal type effects when I stopped smoking entirely in early January, but I honestly think that was actually a mild cold I caught from my husband.

I feel amazing. No misery. No withdrawals. No desire to smoke. No coughing. I can even dash up the stairs without feeling worn out. I wasn't having problems with getting winded on stairs before, but I definitely wasn't running up them either.

I don't have a provari, because I couldn't afford one to start. I just ordered my first variable voltage setup though, which should arrive this week (and then I will have four batteries to choose from). I like my eGo 2200mah 18650 battery with a CE4/stardust clearomizer or a Vision Vivi Nova the best so far. I'm planning to try some other tank style atomizers once I get my variable voltage battery. I started at 24mg juice and use 18mg now. I plan to slowly reduce my nicotine, but I don't know if I'll ever want to quit vaping. I really like it...more than I ever liked smoking.

I was sure I'd want tobacco flavored juice, but so far the only juices I've hated have been the tobacco ones. My favorite flavors right now are cinnamon red hot, honesuckle, and red licorice. As everyone has said, tastes are very individual so you will have to find what you like for yourself. I would absolutely suggest you always try a small bottle (3 to 10ml depending on the vendor) before you order a large size. There are literally hundreds of flavors out there and you can waste a lot of money on flavors you really don't like if you start out ordering the 30ml size.

I also recommend not putting any pressure on yourself to quit, because I think that actually did help me finally quit without any misery. I tried and failed at least a hundred times, so I know I could never have quit without vaping, but I'm also sure that the self-induced stress of hating yourself for having a cigarette doesn't help anyone to quit. I 'slipped' lots of times this time, but since I really wasn't trying to quit (and there was no pressure) I would only have one cigarette (which I really didn't like) instead of chain smoking a pack, and then I'd go right back to my vapes.

Welcome to ECF, and good luck! :)

I "paid my dues" with eGo and the eGo Twist (the trial and learning phase). I think I bought my Provari about 4 weeks in and primarily used cartomizer tanks on it to start. Now at 4 months in I have 2 Rebuildable Atomizers (RBA), a Precise+, and a Poldiac on order. A Kick (small device that sits on top of the battery in a mechanical mod to allow Variable Watts) is in the mail too. I've got my bases covered.

I can't imagine starting up directly with a mechanical mod and a rebuildable atomizer. There was so much to learn about clearomizers, atomizers, cartomizers and tanks, PG and VG, watts, volts and ohms. Once I did move on to an RBA I had to learn about coils, wicks, oxidizing, SS mesh, silica, kanthal/nichrome. In my case I had a friend who started first so he just told me what to get for a starter kit and he answered all my questions (you have him to thank, general ECF public - now you just get my annoying RBA questions).

I also like having the small, cheap eGos and clearomizers on hand for a night out. I would hate to lose a favored device in a bar. I always have the fill screw out on my RBAs so they aren't easily transportable.

Re quitting smoking - I never wanted to quit in the past. I would smoke 3 packs a week in the summer (I was an outdoors only smoker) and maybe half a pack a week in the winter. I timed my transition to vaping at the start of fall. I didn't make a big deal about it. I was going to try vaping and see if it worked for me. I had 2 cigarettes left in my pack when my kit arrived and 1-1/2 of those were the last cigarettes I smoked.

I coughed a lot when vaping because I was taking draws directly into my lungs (that's how I smoked). I've adjusted my draw and that doesn't happen to me. The smoker's hack I developed by the end of this last summer was gone, though. :)

You have a lot to read when you come back to this thread. You asked a lot of questions and got a lot of answers. Good Luck.

1st congrats on wanting to make a change. I honestly didn't wanna quit smoking, went to vaping because it was cheaper. I love it and wouldn't go back, but thing is even if I was down to 0% nic, wouldn't quit I enjoy it to much now. I use 24mg (36mg during high stress) and started with the ole' ego 900mah starter kit we found at smoke shop. I also like having the benefits of a nonsmoker but still is like the best of both worlds.
Welcome!
