I've felt exactly as you, and if it weren't for my wife would have likely had a recurrent affair with the cigs. I was an 'early adopter' of RBAs because I got entirely sick of pre fabbed carts/clearos/tanks etc and all of their inconsistencies. I'm sure you'll find your way, but I would recommend at least considering abandoning any and all pre fabbed systems for a while and looking to dripping and RBAs... for now I would even avoid rebuildable tank systems, kayfun, genesis, etc. To be honest they're all inferior when it comes to vape quality anyway, and are far more likely to frustrate than a solid dripper.

It sounds like a PITA at first but dripping isn't anymore complicated than lighting a cigarette really, and the amount of resources available for builds these days makes it much easier than it used to be. Shoot me a PM if I can be of any help.

I've been vaping 5 years now and been analog free during that time. I was mainly using analog sized batteries with cartomisers (realis) although I did have an aborted brush with an ego-c for 6 months which I abandoned because none of my juices seemed to work with it. I recently got fed up with the refilling / recharging rituals of the realis and ordered the provari, 3 protanks and 10 extra atomisers for the latter. Although initially disappointed with the taste from the provari after a while I thought I was at least vaping less due to the stronger draw and was enjoying not having to refill / recharge as often. As time went on though the harshness of the draw was frustrating me and, after a couple of weeks, I bought 10 smokes. I can't say I enjoyed them that much but neither did I get them out of my system. Please help me get back on the straight and narrow.

I've since found out that changing the protank atomiser helps reduce the harshness of the draw. How often is this best done and can they used ones be washed or boiled back to new? I've yet to experience the "flood of warmth and flavour" (at any voltage) I've heard provari disciples prattle on about. Anyone guess why? Is it because all the juices I've tried are VG (LF menthol blend), ecopure menthol and a tobacco flavoured WTA (so much for the fabled missing link)?

The protanks I'm using are 1.8 ohms and I've been experimenting with voltage from 2.9 - 4.0 but haven't had a lot of joy. Any ideas?

Thanks for the further replies. I'm thinking a lot of this is too much like hard work which I hoped I'd be avoiding by spending a few quid. Are the cartotanks not just giving you the flavour of the inner cartomiser anyway but making refilling less hassle? I'm thinking dripping may be the way to go for now. Any videos on this as regards dripping with the provari?

Here's good info on dripping with atomizers to get started. It's really quite simple and I turned to dripping when I had so much trouble with other toppers. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/the-ocelot/4005-drip-drip-drip-sound-dripping.html

I highly recommend Avid Vaper and Ikenvape because they sort of specialize in atomizers and carry some decent ones. Eventually if you really enjoy dripping, then I would recommend rebuildables. But I don't recommend rebuildables until you have more experience, but it's a lot of fun and I love it because it just always works for me. Plus to me the flavor and throat hit is better and stronger.

IMHO, if you don't like cartos and don't care for the polyfill taste (some people are sensitive to it), you won't like carto tanks. Like you observed, carto tanks just make using cartos easy by keeping them constantly moist and practically eliminating the risk of burning. Besides, you can always tell how much eliquid you have left in your tank, so no more guessing and constant topping off. But you're still vaping a carto.

It's probably the combo of the Provari and ProTanks. ProTanks get their airflow from their base. Provaris do not have the correct cuts to allow air flow to these devices. Try loosening the Pro tank a bit to allow more airflow. If it improves things, you can either loosen while vaping or buy an airflow controller.

Have tried that. In fact couldn't get the protank II to work without leaving join severely loose. No such problems with protank 1 and don't find loosening makes much difference. I sometimes think I just don't like vaping. Sure, it gets me by but can't say I've ever been mad about in the 5 years I've been doing it.

I'd suggest the Kanger Aerotank or the Nautilus Aspire if you are looking for a no-nonsense clearo with replaceable coils and adjustable airflow. I have a couple of other RBAs (Kayfun 3.1, AGA-T2, Kraken Clone) but even though I can rebuild them, I seem to be falling back to the Nautilus Aspire a lot if I'm not dripping. The flavor from it's not bad at all. I bought an Aerotank for my boyfriend and he seems to like it (and I've heard a lot of good things about it) but he too seems to use his Nautilus when he wants a clearo. Yeah, I just asked and he said he likes the Nautilus better, but the Aerotank gives pretty good flavor too. The Nautilus does hold more (a full 5ml). He's expounding now - he says the Aerotank feels sturdier, the flavor is about the same with both of them, but he likes the Nautilus a little better.

Sorry for the frustration and that you wound up backsliding a bit!
