I don't know. Device monitor is also nice to "fine tune" a build. Trying to watch a screen, on the mod, is beyond the capabilities of my eyes, even with glasses, so Device Monitor is very handy. Yeah, I know, use a mirror but they're like cops, never one around when you need one.
Arctic Fox has a PC based logger but I never use it. If I glance at the screen after a puff I see the max puff and max watts reached for that puff. I get my prefered vapor quality from a very saturated coil that never reaches the max temp during the puff. It feels warm because of the density of the vapor, not the temp of the coil. My typical settings are 16 max watts and 380 F max temp. The best puffs come at max watts but temp well under the max. Increasing the max temp in the well saturated situation wouldn't raise the temperature of the coil or the vaper.
Thats because you are basically using it as a VW mod, and 16w is your sweet spot, TC is never coming into play.
I'm using an rda. It's time to re drip when max watts are down to about 5 and the temp limit is hit almost immediately. But I can keep on vaping a reletively dry wick when it's not convenient to re drip may be because I'm driving or may be I'll settle for some lighter puffs for a while because I'm in a situation where I want less vapor for stealth. Without a temp limit using an rda 100% of the time would be a hastle.
I'm gonna try and keep this short.....I just started vaping 2 weeks ago to quit smoking. I thought I got a great little set up with the nautilus 2 tank until I came across this thread and now I am back to square one!! I would like to vape the safest way possible, but am totally confused on what to get exactly.......any help would be soooo appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Thanks for responding! I filled in answers to some of the questions. After I read the temp control stuff and the test done on the one I use I feel like it is maybe not so good......but reading about what I should use is like reading in a foreign language to me!!! I also have a Kanger Kbox nano with a 1.2ohm coil. I use it around 12 watts. I don't use the kanger much cause I felt like the nautilus was better mtl which is what I prefer. Still learning what all the "sub ohm vs above ohm" stuff means. What I really want is something easy that doesn't make huge clouds with a small mouth piece!!!!hello and welcome

I'm from UK so Fahrenheit means nothing to me. However I know from using temp control that I've vaped at 600 and that's not even been hot enough or vape well enough for me..back on wattage mode and honestly I don't care about this information. I've stopped smoking and I doubt however i vape is gonna be as bad as that. 400 degrees is not enough end of, I'd rather smoke.

The traditional N mini coils, 30 guage and 1.6-1.8 ohms, are intended to be run between 8-16 watts. I take a few puffs a week on an N mini at 16 watts. The set up I use most of the time is an rda with a 1.43 ohm 30 guage stainless coil. The experience is similar. When the stainless coil is fully saturated, as it will be with the N mini or your Nautilus 2 , with liquid in the tank, the max temp recorded is no where near the temp limits that seem to concern the researchers. After two years vaping a younger brother of mine is still using his N mini at 11 watts. I'm confident his coil temp comes no where near the supposedly concerning limits until it's time to change the coil because the wicking is plugged up.

As for the Nautilus 2, I have no clue what temp it is running as I havent tested that one yet, I only tested the original Nautilus. I realize it may be the same coil cartridge as the original, but other factors like better airflow etc would likely make it run cooler. The Nautilus 2 has way more airflow than the original one did.
One atty I recently tested that I was impressed with is the Penguin SE with the 0.6 ohm coil. Do the 50% airflow restriction trick for better MtL feel. It runs at safe temps and gives a damn good MtL vape. And its only ~$25. It holds over 8ml of juice, is rechargeable, and really works well.

16w, ~3.1 sec puff, allowed 2 minute cool down then 4.3 sec puff then chained vaped a couple hits
(Note, I did not inhale the chainvape hits, I just puffed them, and I did taste a little burnt flavor. On this cartridge style coil I could not tell if the wick was saturated or not, but I am assuming it was because when I removed it the organic cotton did not look burnt.)

Yes, but the airflow is very different, and if opened up would result in lower temps.
Yes, you can open the airflow more. Still, in a coil like a 1.8 ohm Nauti, the ID of the coil is quite small, as is the air inflow hole in the bottom of the coil. That makes them a tight draw even with fully open air, so higher airflow for lower temps won't work as well as a coil built for higher airflow. I'm not suggesting it won't help, but there is a greater limitation on how much it can help due to the very design of low air/tight draw design of the actual coil.
Thanks! So other than the penguin, is there a kit or set up that is small and good for mtl like this aspire kit i have? I am sorry if my questions are silly.....it is so confusing to me!!! I want something easy that I can buy replacement things for(i am not a builder!!!!)

Something sounds strange to me though. Anytime I have vaped at 315C (600F) it tasted "burnt" to me, not a dry hit, but definitely burnt and irritating to my throat.
To hear you say that 315C isnt hot enough to give you a good vape "feels" contrary to everything I know and have experienced. What rig/atty/coil are you using, and what wattage do you normally vape at? Is it possible your Temp control was not calibrated accurately?
I've vaped the original and the N2, and they are fairly different w/r/t airflow. That being said, I like to think the metal sleeve over top acts as a heat sink, and I've noticed when vaping my tank doesn't get hot (that said, I vape the 1.8 coil at 7--8 watts, and my vape stays cool). When I first started, I was supremely worried about this thread, but I have come to understand that if I'm not using TC, I can still be cautious about not chain vaping (too much), keeping my watts as low as is feasible, and I did want to get into coilbuilding in part due to wanting the ability to TC if I enjoyed it, which I do, but I think there will always be a place for a small, non-rebuildable tank in my life as I feel far from confident in taking any RTA out of the house and not having a wick/coil/leakage issue that I can't fix and would be problematic.
And yes, even at higher temps, I do feel it's safer than smoking. This thread doesn't scare me as much anymore, because I can use the information that is helpful, while also accepting that every action in life carries a certain amount of risk. Including breathing air.
