Had the same issue with the Kangxin flask and the Waidea flask. I reckon the boost circuit ain't the greatest on these Rayn boards.

Croak, any thought son the 'refinement'-like activity that we are seeing? Hard to believe right. Surely they havent built in a faux refinement feature to make it look like its doing it?!?!?

My experiences so far:

1) clicking the fire button is not enough to activate. Additional pressure is required. If you press a spot a little more towards the screen, clicking usually is enough.
2) As has already been pointed out, getting the device out of sleep mode requires multiple 5 click attempts.
3) About half the time the device comes out of sleep mode, the temp and watt settings will be reset to factory default. This is really annoying!

see in the loss of setting after sleep. Soem other glitchiness that almost made me send it back but I have made friends with it again I think and I can live with the little err inconsiterncies..

Getting it recocgnise ni vs kanthal is a bit of an art form. It does some strange stuff sometimes. You can even fire it with + button when it goes into VW-mode sometimes. Nonethelss, it works and the TC is good. Still happy!

Mine seems to ask me for "new coil?" every time unscrew the atty. Anyone else?

And no matter what I do or where i press it requires MANY sets of 5 presses to come out of sleep and it loses my settings. Oh well. Glad it's just my back up.
mine too but the DNA40s do that also I think. My VF clone certainly does. Nothing to worry about I think. the IM is a pretty good device for the money but the chip/firmware still has a few rough edges!

Yes mine seems to ask "new coil?" more often than my kangin flask or rdna. I am having some luck ( not 100% ) by using the the following procedure to get it out of sleep.

1) press fire for 1 second then release
2) wait 5 seconds
3) now do the 5 clicks to wake it up

When this has worked, the settings have been saved. I think there may be some multiple click code that resets to default settings that we are accidentally doing.

My DNA40 Flask rarely asks me for "new coil"...unless it IS a new coil. LOL. Clearly YMMV...
thats amazing! How does it know ;) I may be wrong but I think it should ask every time, even if you disconnect/reconnect the same atty/coil but maybe im wrong...otherwise what is the point of the question 'same coil up, new down' if it already 'knows'!

with respect to my previous post, check out the evolve DNA40 manual - 'Attaching a new atomizer'

http://www.evolvapor.com/datasheet/dna40.pdf

"When you connect a new atomizer or disconnect and reconnect your existing atomizer, the DNA 40 will prompt you to confirm this change. When you fire the first time, before activating the DNA 40 will prompt “New Coil? UP YES/DOWN NO”. When you see this prompt, if you have attached a new atomizer, press the UP button. If you have disconnected and reconnected the same atomizer, press the DOWN button. "

If it doesnt ask, it isnt working properly! :)

when it does that to, I reset the screen orientation etc but often when I then fire it, it goes to VW mode and I cant get it to go back in ie 5 clicks, +/- for 2 secs, adjust temp, hit fire, 5 clicks, fire and its still in VW mode. Anyone else seen this..

I saw this once. I can't remember what I was doing before it got locked into VW, but I was fiddling with it. Had to unscrew the battery cap to get it back in temperature mode.

ok, its not just me. I think this chip is a little bit funky to be honest. It basically works and, admittedly, I have been beating on it quite hard, changing attys (subtanks/drippers) back and forward to try to get to the bottom of what it is doing. Im still on the fence as to whether it is robust enough to be generally useful. I am leaning towards 'no' at the moment but I'll wait and see what other peoples experiences are over the next week and maybe then take advantage of the heatvape 3 month warranty!

Thanks squag. I was beginning to think it was genuinely defective but it looks like these issues are being seen by others..

From my experience it only asks "new/old" when it doesn't know.... When you first attach an atty (with both at the same room temperature) you sets that reading as new. From then on it only asks if it needs to. Try this and see what you get:

Using your current setup.... fire the atty until you reach the temp limit message.... remove the atty and fire the device....reattach the atty with the coil that has not cooled down and when asked "new/old" select old and you should be good to go (note resistance),,,,repeat and when asked select new and see how different the resistance reading is (remember the coil was not at the same temperature as the device)....thus if the device sometimes does not ask "new/old" it thinks you have the same atty..

maybe this explains....

I agree. The chip is a little funky. I think I've sorted the multiple 5 click issue with the procedure I posted earlier. I'm now having another issue. I sometimes find it has gone to sleep when it shouldn't have. Perhaps ten seconds after I've fired it. This might only be happening with a lowish, but still usable, battery.

I would say the chip seems reliable, meaning I'm not afraid it's going to stop working completely. It just needs a lot of attention.

Omg your "trick" worked like a charm! My Vape booted is this morning just fine and saved my settings! Thanks again!
