From my experience it only asks "new/old" when it doesn't know.... When you first attach an atty (with both at the same room temperature) you sets that reading as new. From then on it only asks if it needs to. Try this and see what you get:

Using your current setup.... fire the atty until you reach the temp limit message.... remove the atty and fire the device....reattach the atty with the coil that has not cooled down and when asked "new/old" select old and you should be good to go (note resistance),,,,repeat and when asked select new and see how different the resistance reading is (remember the coil was not at the same temperature as the device)....thus if the device sometimes does not ask "new/old" it thinks you have the same atty..

maybe this explains....

Ok but it doesnt really explain what evolv say in their own manual is my point! I see no reason why the chip should be expected to know whether it is the same or or not. If it doesnt ask when the atty has been disconnected, then that is a bug not a 'feature' to my mind!

I agree. The chip is a little funky. I think I've sorted the multiple 5 click issue with the procedure I posted earlier. I'm now having another issue. I sometimes find it has gone to sleep when it shouldn't have. Perhaps ten seconds after I've fired it. This might only be happening with a lowish, but still usable, battery.

I would say the chip seems reliable, meaning I'm not afraid it's going to stop working completely. It just needs a lot of attention.

I forgot to try this and have multiple loss-of-setting' reboots. Ill try iut next time it sleeps (which it wont have the chance to for a while lol!

btw, if there is any doubt the TP doesnt work on this thing, I have demonstrated that it does work fine, to destruction.Vaped two different atty's dry and kanger subtank mini! No problemo!! Now that 'feature' I like very much!! I'm wishing I had some 0mg juice to hand. This is getting silly!!

I really want to like this device, but a few things have me kind of bummed out about it (as mentioned by others)

1) Sometimes takes 5x clicks multiple tries to wake the device back up. Not that big of a deal during the day since it usually doesn't go into sleep mode. THe suggestion of holding the fire button for one second, waiting 5 secs, and then clicking 5x doesn't seem to help me any (at least yet)
2) Most of the time when waking the device, my temp and wattage settings are gone and I have to reprogram it. This is the must frustrating thing and will probably make me end up no longer using the device if we don't figure out it's a 'programmed reset' we are doing with a certain combination of clicks, seconds, etc.

Other than the two issues above, I am very happy with the device. I would gladly trade a mciro-usb charge port for it being waterproof. I don't really care about it being waterproof. Also, I guess we've go no way to update the software if and of the issues we are finding end up being related to the chip. If this is the case, I will not buy another Heatvape product unless it at least offers some type of software update. I can deal with having to carry a spare battery.

The temp control actually seems to work very well so far for me. Seems to work better for me than my HB40 DNA (Evolve chip). It's much more consistent and I don't get the flaky behavior I get with the Evolve chip.

I would buy another one if I weren't having the issues above. Hopefully someone will figure out we are doing something wrong becuase you would think if this weren't specifically in the programming of the chip, this would have been found quickly during testing since several of us are reporting these issues.

Not sure it's worth returning or dealing with it as a warranty issue unless we find out it's a bug and they fix the chip.

Makes me look forward even more to my IPV4 arriving soon.

Just my two cents. Would be interested to know if somebody figures out how to stop the two issues above or finds out for sure it's a bug in the chip.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam
For the moment the squag trick has been working for me. I just press fire for a second or so then hit it firmly 5 times to wake it up. So far it's worked every time but that's not more than four or so!

I also find the auto coil recognition to be pretty inconsistent and it is impossible to force it back into temp mode if it gets it wrong.

I like the device but I'm still not sure if I'll keep it. The ipv4 isn't much more expensive although a very different beast! There are a lot of tc devices appearing now..

Thanks TheOtherSteveS.

I took my battery out last night before I went to bed. Woke up this morning and was surprised that it fired right up, had all of my settings and asked about the coil.

Going to start taking it out at night and see if that solves the issue. Maybe I just got lucky, lol.

It will go to sleep a few time today since it's a work day, so I'll see how that goes and try your trick again. :)

Yeah alot of new devices appearing all of a sudden. Was just really happy with this one (TC functioning fine, etc), then these other issues started becoming apparent. The most irritating one to me is the setting loss. Maybe I will try just removing the battery in between (out of curiosity) to see if that resolves it.

Take care

Ok mate good luck with that. Squags trick still working for me. I did have the double 5-click issue yesterday but it kept settings. Working fine at the moment. I think when it is set up with an atty and you are not changing all the time, it is fine. I can cope with it not auto finding the TC vs normal setup. Maybe I'll keep it...;)

Any chance one of y'all who owns the Invader has an IPV mini 2 as well? Would be very grateful if you could snap a couple quick size comparison shots :) Having a hard time deciding between the two as I'm not sure I care enough about TC yet, and size is one of the deciding factors.

If not, anyone know of a review anywhere where they compare them?

Thanks in advance!

Just got mine from 3A Vapes, is any one else getting fluctuating ohms on power mode using kanthal? And no, it isn't my build, my IPV2 reads steady. Besides its doing it on 3 kayfuns, a Nautilus BVC, and an Orchid! Temp control is working right, just not power (watts). Contacted 3A Vapes about it. Waiting on a reply. I have both, will see if I can get a few pics uploaded today. They are pretty similar in size, the Invader being a little less than 1/2" taller to the top of the 510 connector. The Invader may also be a little thicker at it's thickest point, but it's all rounder so it fits great in the hand and actually feels a little smaller due to it having rounded edges all around.

In all honesty, if the 'rugged', waterproof and TC aren't that important to you, I would go for the IPV mini 2. I love my IVP mini. Just got a silicone skin for it (Sweet Vapes has them) and it feels great in my hand now. I haven't had a single issue with my IPV mini.

I also use a Sigelli Mini 30 that I rotate with the IPV mini, but as far as my standard box mods go, my favorite is the IPV mini currently.

As far as TC goes, I have the Invader and the HCigar HB DNA 40. I prefer the HB DNA 40 over the Invader so far. I think the TC works better on the Invader, but my Evolve chip has not been as flakey.

With the Invader losing my settings during wakeup, multiple attempts to wake sometimes, and the fact that it spontaneously locks sometimes (have to 5x click it to get it to fire), I'm always questioning whether I'm going to get a vape from the Invader or have to putz with it.

My IVP and HB DNA 40 always fire for me.
