Hello all! Nice site here, reading around learning alot.

A bit of background. I smoked analogues for almost 15 years. Was gonna quit when I got out of college. Was going to quit when I bought a house. Was gonna quit when I got married. Was gonna quit when I had a child. None of which happened. Then I had a real eye opener. A under 30 year old friend of mine died of cancer.

That was it, I ordered an e-cig, and haven't had a "real" cig in over 4 months!

So, I bought a "smoketip" brand e cig, and joined the vaping crowd. It has its good qualities to it. It was cheaper than analogues, it got me to quit them, I found a flavor I like alot, the customer service is good, the free batteries for life is good.

As I continued vaping, and knew I was going to stick with it, I found the juice that worked for me and began refilling my carto's even cheaper. Bonus.... which is where I am now.

BUT I feel the need for longer battery life, and more vapor wouldn't hurt either. Im a little sick of dripping to fill the cartos but thats not the end of the world. And I think Im ready to try a manual battery, to get the performance Im after. And something that looks less like a cig won't hurt either. I get hassled about it from time to time.

SO, I THINK that leads me to a mid-sized device. But just like when I got my first 808 device, Im clueless again.
What Im looking for is more battery life. More vapor. Not breaking the bank (which is why Im not going right to a tube or box and just taking the logical next step) Getting away from it looking like a cig, and if possible in this size device, no dripping for refills, I guess thats would be whats call just a "tank".

Im all ears as to what Im looking for. Pics help. Prices and places to buy are good. Any and all input is welcome.

Thanks again for the great site.

Kory.... with a k.

If you want battery life the 18650 mods are good, Provari is for sure a good choice with a carto and tank you get plenty of hassle free vaping. If you dont want to shell out the money for a Provari A lavatube works well lots of versions all are good you can do some research on youtube also a Vmax is ok Joker from Vapor life or buzz pro those use 16340 batteries and both are american made. Lots of people like ego twist but they are disposiable and you are throwing money away. A buzz pro is the same cirtury and even has a little resale value if you decide to trade up someday.

Because you've actually asked for a larger, longer lasting battery, I'm going to recommend either the KGO or the Ego Twist. They are 501 models. (You can get 808-compatible Rivas, I think, and they're quite good - but I don't know who sells them.) If you really want to go all out and money is no object, check out the Provari.

Lots of people love the new Vivi Nova cartomizer tank, so you may want to give that a try. Alternately, the Smoke Tech XL LR cartomizers (~1.7ohms) are excellent with the KGO. For the Twist, you'll want a regular resistance carto/tank (~2.4ohms+) for best results.

OK, Im not following the variable voltage ohms, and Im confused at cartos (which I know is a cartomizer) but then (if Im understanding) you need a drip tip or tank? is that correct?

Is there anywhere I can get a COMPLETE setup, and with a larger unit, do the cartos/tanks die like cartos with my 808?

Sorry, newb. :(

The ProVari is a bit much for me at this point, is a lavatube a GOOD alternate?

With a lavatube, what all do I NEED to get started (and I think I want a "tank") as to not have to drip/fill a poly filled carto.

Am I making sense?

Thanks...

Kory with a k.

You can get an X2 battery from smokeless image. It's an ego style battery with 808 threads. You would be able to use everything you have for your 808 mini batteries and ego tanks as well. They come in 3 sizes, 650, 900 and 1309mah and are $20,$25 and $30 respectively. The price includes a charger and they are also a pass through

You guys are confusing this poor soul I fear. Kory it took me about 2 weeks to get in the same spot your in. I liked vaping, but I wanted more.. and I was already over the "gotta have one that looks like a cig" phase.

You asked for "medium" size, that rules out Provari, Lavatube, etc (at least in my opinion). To me medium size is something like an ego battery. As mentioned, the Kgo, Volt x2 are good choices in the medium size range, but I think you could do better.

Kgo - proprietary threading can only use their cartomizers, clearomizers, tanks. Will likely mean more expensive replacement parts in the long run.

Volt x2, Infinity, and some others - 808 threads and you can use your current carto's. These will provide better battery life and allow you to use your current cartomizers, but your choices for clearomizers and/or tanks is limited. You may get more voltage out of these batteries but it probably won't be a large difference in throat hit or vapor production, especially if you stick with your old carto's your using.

Ego C/ Ego C twist - 510 threading, the most common in the industry. This will provide the most choices and thus lowest prices for things like carto's, clearo's and tanks. You can also use an atomizer and drip for tasting if you so desire.

All of the above choices are going to be the same size width wise, with some minor differences on the length of the battery depending on the electronics inside.

So, you could do what I did, which is go from a mini 808 to a x2 type 808 because I had a whole 10 dollars worth of 808 carto's I didn't want to go to waste. Then after you spend $50-100 on that stuff, you can decide what you really want is a ego c twist with a mini vivi nova and so then spend another $100 getting setup for that. Or, you could avoid my mistake and just go for a ego twist and mini vivi nova, and maybe some clearomizers.

I haven't tried out my twist/vivi yet because it's still in the mail en route, but I will certainly let you know how it compares to 808 x2 bat's when I get it. Considering I'll be able to adjust my voltage as desired for vapor production and throat hit, I have no doubt I'm going to like it a lot better.

Since you expressed interest in a mid-size device, I'd recommend the Smokeless Image X2. Depending upon which of three battery sizes to choose from, you can get roughly 6-24 hours on one, depending upon how heavy you vape. A huge advantage to these is the charger also doubles as a pass thru....you can vape from any USB computer port or USB/AC power adaptor to save battery life.

Tank options are limited, as it is still an 808 threaded device. SI offers clearomizers that hold about 1.5 ml. A couple of those should last you all day. Also offered are CE3's, which are like clear cartomizers with wicks, no polyfill. Both are easy to fill, but a limited life expectancy of 3 -6 weeks, maybe longer. New accessories, probably with larger juice capacity, are in the works for the near future.

Finally, SI is a reputable vendor with excellent customer service that stands by their product and with great delivery time. They have a very active forum here under the vendor forums, where you can get nearly instant advice with issues you may have with your equipment from people very familiar with what you have.

Just adding my :2c: so in case korywithak misses it, the Smokeless Image X2 batt is 808 AND Ego tank threaded. (hence the bold part of mroutlaws qouted post).

Good luck! and Happy Vaping!!

Joye eGo or Joye 510 variable voltage USB passthrough

I just found that if you are not looking for something with a little more oomph without spending too much coin. Its bigger than an 808, but small enough to carry around. I had the Halo G6 when I first started, but the smaller batteries just weren't doing it for me.
You could also look into a Vivi Nova or a DCT tank if you want something that you don't have to fill every hour. I ran into the same problem and just ordered the Vivi Nova myself.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, been working like a mad man!

Please stay with me as I work through this. Im a NOOB!

Ok, forget I said "mid-sized", and a KGO is out, I HATE proprietary items.

I NEED to get a setup soon and my 808s batteries aren't lasting as long, and I don't wanna spend more money on them Id rather put it towards a new device. I need a complete setup for 100$ or under.

I see the advantage of the VV devices to get the the TH and vapor the individual user wants. So lets talk about lava tubes.
Is this a better device? If I get a lava tube, I can get any tank with a 510 threading, correct? Also, I get the lava tube is the device and I get that a tank is the juice holder, but then does this need an atomizer too? or carto? or what????

What other device TOTAL SETUP can I get for 100$ or under that is a GOOD device and I can fill a tank and vape?

Before I pull the trigger on this device. I would like a little input from forum members... is this a good device? am I going to be sorry buying this? this will be a big step up from my 808 correct? I just need a little nudge that Im headed in the right direction.

Yes earlier models had issues but they've resolved those problems. If you don't mind the size of a Tube Mod it is good. I have a few friends that "needed" an inexpensive VV, bought the LT and are very pleased. Realize though we are at a point where competing VV PVs are coming out- the Twist, 3.3- 4,8 V, The Kgo VV 3- 6 Volts...and I'm sure others will follow.
Most spend the extra $$ and choose the Stainless Steel as it looks and wears better.
As for batteries:
Worst to best:
Ultrafires
Trustfires
AW
Panasonics

If you're buying the mini here's the batt BUT no label. I would email the vendor and ask. Realize also the mini will not give you long batt life. 100 mah= 1 hr normal vaping before recharge...vaping at a higher voltage will also drain the batt quicker. Mini batt is generally about 700- 900 mah.

How do I know what kind of battery is what? Im on the Apollo website and it doesn't say. I was going to get a spare right away with the Vtube....
