Okay, okay, okay! A poster on page 4 of this thread "Dear Me" said that it's hard to choose for someone else because not everyone's preferences are the same, not everyone smoked analogs the same and not everybody needs the same "physical" affects as someone else. I am not into all the "tech talk" I read on the forum. I'm a "low maintenance" kind of person - don't want to hassle much. That's the beauty of smoking analogs - hassle free. Pull it out of the box, light it up and you're in business. I never paid that much attention to the kind of "TH" I was getting off an analog, how "flavorful" the analog was or how much "smoke" I was getting from the analog - in other words the all powerful "TFV" that you hear so much about when reading some of the posts on the forum or watching YouTube video reviews. I don't know about u guys but I don't want to make "vaping" a hobby no more than "smoking" was a hobby. Smoking was a habit just as vaping can become a habit. The first of November I bought my first "starter kit". I got two batteries, auto and manual, charger and 5 pack of pre-filled cartridges. I didn't know squat about "ohms, Mahs, li-ions, yada, yada". All I know is I charged that little baby up, screwed on a pre-filled cartridge and I was ready to go. And I really enjoyed it. Did not smoke and analog for 2 weeks. I was a pack/day Marlboro Special Blend 100's smoker, only one of the many brands I have smoked over the last 39 years. Up until 2 years ago I was a 2 pack/day smoker. The only reason I became a pack/day smoker is because I decided to quit smoking in my house. My gosh, I didn't realize how much I was lighting up especially since I spend A LOT of time on the computer. Ok - in 2 years I've gone from 2 pack/day to 1/pack day and I was so proud of myself. Then I realized I may want to live a few years longer if the good Lord lets me and also I WANTED TO QUIT SPENDING MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT WAS KILLING ME! So I decided to try the e-cig method. My first kit was fine except that the pre-filled carts I got were said to be equal to 1 pack of cigs - not the case. The carts would dry out too quickly - I went through 20 carts in a week and according to that company's representation that would mean I was smoking 3 packs/day! I became quickly disillusioned as I saw that these pre-filled carts were going to end up being costly. I sent the starter kit back, got a refund, came to ECF and started asking questions. Being new most everyone suggested a 510 starter kit. I figured these guys knew what they were talking about since they had been vaping for some time so I bought one at half the price I paid for the first one. Got some juice, been playing around with cartomizers, having a heck of a time learning how to fill one without overfilling it, finally getting the hang of it and, you know what? THAT'S ALL I NEED! I don't know about the rest of you but I want to eventually stop vaping. Like I said, a habit is a habit whether we're smoking or vaping. We're still putting a toxic substance into our bodies and I can be ok with that for now because at least I'm not putting all that other chemical crap into my lungs that cig companies pump analogs full of. Some of us that are new want to make the transition to e-cigs as painless as possible. I know a lot of you guys like to tinker around with electronics (I'm married to one so I know!) but a lot of us women don't want to be "Dr. Frankencig". We just want something simple, learnable and satisfying enough to keep us off the analogs. Having the juice is much more economical and much more pleasant also because of the flavors. So if we newbies ask for suggestions just "KISS" (I know most people know what that means but if not - Keep It Simple Stupid"), don't overwhelm us with a lot of technical jargon and just tell us the most basic way we can jump on the vaping wagon and stay on. It can be very frustrating at first as I'm sure all of you know because as the originator of this thread pointed out "everyone" was new at one point. I've got a Riva 510 starter kit with two manuals, Boge cartomizers, good juice, a Delrin tip and a couple of clearomizers just to test out. That's all I need or want. Using 18ml juice right now and my goal is to get to "0". You guys go ahead and get all revved up about your mods, boxes, building-your-own, etc. I just want easy and satisfying enough to keep me off the analogs and not spend a fortune in the process. :vapor:

Is this just for dripping or is it good for putting on a cartomizer on as well?

    I rest my case!

Please don't be offended, but you emphasized our point that a person should learn how to fly before they start jumping off tall buildings.

But to answer your question, yes a lot of people use cartos with replaceable batteries and higher voltages.

For the last time....Battery technology and safety have absolutely NOTHING to do with vaping. LONG before vaping we were draining, charging, rebuilding computer laptop batteries and such. Someone above mentioned KISS and I agree. I am not saying a mod box won't work (cause I don't know) but...I know this......I do NOT think due to the safety issues it's not appropriate for a brand new vapor.

As far as money, well my life is worth a lot to me and to others. If I couldn't afford to do this, how in the hell did I afford to smoke two packs of cigarettes for 40 years......Hell almost 41

I'm not taking sides here on this mod box being good cause I do NOT have mine yet. (and believe me I will post comments about it)....but I surely wouldn't be getting the thing if I did not know about battery safety.

You are such a noob, you need to get a clue. When I started vaping there was no eGo, Riva, E-Power, etc. You had to try many models that came out over time to find ones that worked well. And the plain and simple fact that you never answer is that $4 for a battery is less than even $10 for a battery. But the average price for an ego battery is $15. And although I am no electrical engineer, I've used enough different models and read enough threads to know that non-proprietary batteries last longer and are more than twice less expensive than your ego batteries. If you state otherwise, you are not being forthright.

I also notice that you are such an ego fanboy that no matter what someone is looking for, it appears to be the only model you every recommend. I guess all other models should go out of business. How many different models have you used for comparison analysis to determine that the ego is the only model anyone should use?

An eGo isn't just a battery it's the whole device..I recommend e cigs with a 510 connector it's just the eGo is a relatively inexpensive device that works good and has a lot of options..I have recommended 510 auto's which I use. Sure the battery by itself costs less than an eGo but lets compare

2 box mod kits $40 minimum for single battery mods (a better comparison would be a 2 mods with a metal cases for lots of money), 2 batteries $8 minimum, a charger $10 and whatever atomizers/cartomizers $10 you plan to use vs a eGo kit at around $40-50 that comes with everything as I like using at least 2 different flavors without changing cartomizers (usually I have 3 or 4 flavors ready to go).

I recommend what I use and think is a good deal and place to start. If someone wants something cigarette sized I recommend they get Mega 510 batteries..if they wanted shorter I would tell them to get a 510 kit but would also tell them to get more batteries because they don't last long. 510 fanboy maybe (mostly because there is so much 510 stuff out there) but not eGo..I just think eGo's are the most bang for the buck you can get in a kit.

well I bought a big kazoo in the first week I started vaping it went like this: I got the notion I should try vaping again, I looked at a bunch of stuff got confused so I ordered a E9, a xl 510 and a t-rex kit they all arrived on the same day and I realized that vaping was good and of course I was watching all the videos and decided I want to try 5v and it was a cheap was to do that. out of all my starter kit the big kazoo is the only one I still use so I could have started with it and been happy I still would have bought other mods because I'm a gadget girl

So if I bought the two items that Woody1 recommended at the start of this thread, what else would I need to get this whole thing started?
Could someone please make up an entire purchase order-list for a newbie? Also, I DO like the strong kick, and have read others here agree that this will do it. HELP!!!
edit: Please include a good 'juice' refill liquid too-I want strong, regular tobacco flavor. Thanks if you could help me get going :)

*Can it look like a cigarette? I don't personally care, but my husband will-and he's having a harder time at this than I am-the quitting thing

My experience was different. I hate tinkering to, but I think the main difference with smokin and vaping, is the learning curve. When I started smoking, the first smoke I had was a belmont, and that was the only smoke I could ever smoke and that was the last smoke I did smoke. My brand loyalty was incredible, considering I love and value uninqueness, I tried every other brand and kept coming back to belmont. With vaping at the level I'm at right now, I constantly adapt to whatever I've vaping, and if I don't change it up every so often, it becomes less enjoyable. I need to keep on upping myself to stay on the train. Vaping needs to hold my interest....but that's just one ponies walk....

    SmokinGee,

Since keeping it "cig-like" is what you think your husband would require, it will cost you more (double) to get a good cig-like that works (and still not as good as the non cig-like). But if that is what will get him off the analogs, it's worth it!

This kit comes highly recommended for "cig-like": Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Volt - Premium Starter Kit - Starter Kits

eJuices are harder to recommend, especially "tobacco flavor" cuz it is hard to duplicate.

    Good luck!

WEll, in all honesty, I'll have to agree with Monnie-keeping it at KISS-is all I really want right now. Like my post above-a simple list of what I need to get going and not spend all this money on exactly what she said-the 5 carts at 21.00 a pop-taking UP my price-would be great. I just want a simple, get me off and keep me off-regular cigs....without the enormous cost of these unrefillable carts. And I want it to taste like a cig-and my hubby needs it to look like a cig-he's slipping back inot the cigs because of price of carts.

Another good option, is to get him something cig-like (like a 510-t manual battery with Boge cartomizer (standard resistance). It's tiny and it last about an hour, but it's very simple for when you're out of the house. But also get him something more longer lasting and substantial for at home. I find alot of people want the look of an analog for when they're out and about, because it's a self-concious thing. When you're at home and comfortable, you want something consistent and long-lasting. For me it's all about location, location, location.

Empty 510 cartomizers should cost around $10 for a pack of 5..nothing is unrefillable really when it comes to e cigs but you're better off filling empty carts. If he wants it to be about cig size 510 batteries are the way to go IMO but they are usually black and don't last all that long..they have mega 510 batteries that are a bit better but they are more like a 100 cig length. Anyways if he could live with a 510 being black and is a heavy smoker you could always buy more batteries..but doing it that way would cost a bit more.

He can airbrush them I guess-he's an artist....so color would not be bad-I didn't think of that until you mentioned that Chris...
thanks so much for the help too-everyone!
Do I have to replace the little cottony thing inside them when I refill with liquid? Is that thing reuseable? And has anyone every tried taking the atomizer top (unscrewing it) off of the regular Blu or NJoy things and refilling them? Just thinking....
edit: And with him, it's taste and strength too-so I'm thinking the volt thing and the 510 things may be good? Yes? They make a strong, long lasting flavor and batt life?

    I live in Florida

The "cottony" thing inside is most likely polyfill like is in pillows..you're talking about cartridges right? If you are you can pull it out and wash it or (at your own risk) go to Walmart and buy a bag of pollyfill..make sure it's not treated with anything. If they are cartomizers they are pressed together and really shouldn't be taken apart..they can still be cleaned sometimes and can be refilled.

510's battery life isn't great the Mega 510's which are longer can last a couple hours. eGo which are fatter and longer are the best IMO but you said he wanted something the size of a cig. Here is an example of a 510 Mega Manual Battery, Red LED but it's out of stock..they also come in auto but autos don't last as long..if it gets him off smoking it might be worth buying a few 510 mega or regular batteries. If you get the right cartomizers (I like 2.5ohm CE2's) you would get decent vapor..flavors each person really just have to try different ones until they find what they like.
