When I was using cigarettes, I thought nothing of smoking as much as I want. Running low? No problem, just go to the nearest store, drop $18 for another three packs and keep going.

Now that I've gone the healthy alternative route, I feel like I've turned somewhat ....-retentive; always computing costs (never cared when it was tobacco), limiting how much I vape (never cared when it was tobacco), making sure I could get my supplies (never cared when it was tobacco -- and the product is easier to get than tobacco). In short, driving myself nuts. As I type this I have my pen in sight, desperately wanting a draw and thinking "tsk, tsk, this pod has to last you until Saturday" (never cared when it was tobacco -- and it's not true, I can use it up tonight if I want, I have stocked up!)

I hope I get over this vaping OCD or I may end up on Dr. Phil.

Or Steve Wilkos: "Your Vaping Is Ruining Our Life!!"

Not sure what to tell you. When I dropped a decades old 2PAD habit via vaping without actually intending to quit, cost became irrelevant, as did how much I vaped, because no matter how my I vaped, I felt so much better than when I was smoking.

However, I did become .... about one thing: Making sure I always had enough vape-stuff that, come hell or high water, I wouldn't go back to smoking for lack of it. :D

I don't think in our current socio-political climate, being .... retentive is all that weird, personally.

Also, you can do a LOT better than Dr. Phil. Pick pretty much any other doctor honestly including Dr. Kevorkian. I mean, he only kills you if you ASK and I bet he knows way more than Dr. Phil and you also won't be televised saying vaping has ruined your life, either. There is always that. Please don't do that to vaping.

Dr. Kevorkian also has no desire to kill vaping, but he's also not a ratings well, .......

I feel the same. I quited more from financial reason than health concerns. Vaping for me is much much cheaper I paid less than $6 for 100 feet of kanthal wire $15 for big box of Rayon (that I will not use in my lifetime) and cost of DIY juice is around $8-$10 per month... even all my atties and couple of mods costed me less than I was spending in 3 months for cigarettes. The one hassle is for me to remember to charge batteries....:).... but having quite a few of them I do not sweat.... there is always one charged and another charging...second hassle is having too many atties... although currently I use just two newest that are not in this picture below but are so good that I plan to retire the rest.... well maybe I will still use them from time to time...

There is very little talk about EVL Reaper or Hussar Project X but those two atties deserve better recognition that is why I want to mention them... for those that like looser MTL or RDTL I highly recommend them. They provide much better vape than Sirens, Doggies, Savour, Gotank or Fresia...

I'm like Rossum and Shawn..

But I have concluded that we all view vaping differently from a financial aspect and the why seems to be because vape gear is more like an electronic component than a cigarette, and for some people that affects how they perceive shopping for it or in the case of the OP using it..

Most of us don't really care about the cost and the durability of disposable products. Cigarettes are disposable and a pack is usually not too expensive. If you don't like this brand, you can switch to another next time. The same thing happens with buying a disposable razor and an electric shaver. Maybe right now you haven't found the perfect one for you. But when you find it, your health and wallet will be much better compared with cigarettes.

Or just get a cheap closed-pod system experience the same old feeling of using cigarettes :D

Totally makes sense to me. I stopped smoking cigarettes because of the disgusting smell really.

I’ve always been into electronic gadgets so in my attempt to smell better I’ve stumbled into electronic gadgets heaven. Unfortunately I’m not working at the moment but that hasn’t seemed to put a damper on my new hobby. But I do smell better. I just have a lot less money in my bank account.

this is simple to solve

start making your own juice

its not you being .... its your body telling you that you are being ripped off buying all premade juice

I was a lot like this when I first switched to vaping and you might say I was a penny pincher. At first I kind of grumbled a lot about the poor quality of coils and how quickly they'd fail or how many duds I would get in the packet. How little of the juice actually tasted nice and how much I was spending to find something tolerable. Things became better for me once I started making my own coils. But in 2014 there was limited choice compared to today.

What I'm really saying is that it took me time and expense to find the right set up and it was easy to consider vaping money spent vs my old smoking budget. Of course the weighing influences which put my mind at ease were the health benefits of vaping. My clothes no longer stunk, I could run and catch a bus without nearly passing out and I could actually taste food again. These days I still look for the best buy because I'm practical like that and I don't enjoy wasting money on junk. Only essentials are batteries, coiling materials and juice now. Everything else I buy is because vaping is a much a hobby for as well as something I enjoy doing.

As a comparison looking at today's prices. I smoked Benson & Hedges which back then cost about £7 for a pack of 20 and I got through a pack a day. Now they cost £12.35, which is £86.45 per week and I spend nowhere near that on my vaping.

@JULIA HUGGINS :) Classic case of misdirected addiction behaviour. When we give up the addiction of the killer sticks we are constantly trying to channel those thoughts of 'caving in' to something else, as a protection against going back to smoking.

This is what you've done I expect, probably unknowingly and now it's become habituel and you're recognising it as an unwanted behaviour....

I think we all have this to a certain extent and it's why a lot of us have vaping as a hobby as well as that ''not smoking aid'' it all started with where you focused that original addiction energy.

Don't know if knowing this will help...but it may help you to come up with a strategy to focus on the gear rather than the price/costs. Good luck :)
