We need to get our doctors in the loop here. They may not step up to the plate now, but if there is ever a ban, and vapers go back to smoking, or even better, quit it all, there is testimony right there the effects vaping actually has on smoking cessation. After all these years, we are feeling the effects of what smoking can do. We are now seeing generations of proof. We want to quit, or find something better. We don't want a pill that can give us nightmares, or make us suicidal, gum is an idea, but what about those who cannot chew it because of missing teeth, gingivitis, weak teeth, or oral cancer? The patch is expensive, and a proven hit-or-miss. vaping is a much cheaper alternative, even if you have someone who alternates vaping and smoking to cut cost, or whatever reason, that is still one less cigarette, and a big chance of someone switching to vaping full time!

I think the reason it works so well, it mimics the actual smoking HABIT. We developed that habit over a long period of time. Stressed? Take a time out and bring hand to mouth. Relaxing? Take a time out and bring hand to mouth. Driving? Take time out and bring hand to mouth. Thinking out a problem at work? Take time out and bring hand to mouth.

Smoking was OUR time to just check out for a bit, and while we did that, we were bringing our hand to mouth, smoke left our lips in a tangible way.

There's a reason we vapers are such nice people :D We are pretty much relaxed all the time, now!

Great post, and interesting point about friendliness and willingness to help. I'm on other forums that are always one inflammatory post away from an all out internet handbags fight.

RosaJ,

It is almost universal the if a "Doctor says" it is therefor the Gospel.

Like the one poster said his doctor said yes but it still contains nicotine like that is the bad thing. The same doctor would probably recommend nic gum or nic patches.

I have been on this planet a long time and my experience says that not all Doctors are created equal i.e. get a second/third opinion.

Any WEB search will tell you that while nicotine is very addictive it is probably the least offensive chemical in a cigarette as far as health concerns go. And their are many searches that will tell you, from reliable sources, that nicotine is not a carcinogen.

All one has to do is search this site for all the positive results obtained form vaping. There are the few that do find they have some allergy to PG but I take some of those with a grain of salt considering it the person that makes that claim used salad dressing (a multitude of other food item), Shampoo, soap, mouth wash... etc which many of contain PG.

Then do a search on ECF and read about all the folks that now don't cough all the time, wheeze when they breath, wake up in the morning with the feeling of a hangover from too many cigarettes the day before. All I can say is these symptoms of smoking were very true for me but now with vaping they have all disappeared. The lack of wheezing was also verified by my cardiologist so that was not just something I am imaging.

Anyway I think I strayed off a little, what I wanted to say is I agree with you and if you take the comments one or two doctors as absolute you are doing yourself an injustice (some Doctors, not all, have an over inflated ego and that they know more then they really do). If switching to Vaping make you overall feel better an un-scientific conclusion is it has to be doing less harm to you - even if you still have the nicotine addiction IMHO.

Totally agree. Thankfully I have survived the odds before in my life and am currently free of life threatening issues. I never thought I could ever quit smoking and I was resigned to face whatever consequences it brought. I've been smoke free now for 19 months and don't even think about cigarettes.

Whenever I read some of the posts in the forum I am reminded that some people are looking for guarantees in life, where there really aren't any. The responsibility lies in each of us to make our decisions. The only thing we can do is to do our own due diligence and go from there. Vaping is a miraculous invention for me and I recommend it to anyone who wants a better way of using nicotine.

Robino1,

I agree with you completely... I have often thought about the fact that it mimics all the physical aspects of smoking except I don't have to burn holes in my couch, car seats anymore or worry about falling asleep on the couch and burning the house down (Thank God). :)

my doc supported it, but was happy when I went to 0mg nic,,,,

apparently, there's some evidence you heal better (wounds, surgeries, etc) when you avoid nicotine. IDK how true that is, but apparently, lots of docs won't do elective surgeries if you're on nic.

Nicotine is a known blood vessel constrictor. This is why it's associated with elevated blood pressure. As a result from these constricted vessels, your wounds will heal slower since blood flow to these areas are reduced.

But to clarify things, you also aren't allowed to eat or drink anything other than water prior to surgeries as well as some of the food and drinks you consume causes similar complications.

My doctors at the VA have been totally supportive. My primary said nicotine in the doses I am probably getting isn't going to kill me anymore the coffee. Pretty much said congratulations on quitting keep at it and that he would rather see me using ecigs then real thing. But said wont know long term effects for awhile, so guess I get to be a guinea pig. He has researched though after me giving him info and thinks risks should be minimal if at all. But they have been supportive, to the point of letting me use them on the premises. Wish more docs were like that.

I had cervical neck fusion in may and bought the ego kit primarily for my couple days in the hospital and thought they would stay in the car after that, but noticed that I had no anxiety in the hospital and decided to give them a try....started vaping and still smoked a few for a week and was then totally vaping and during my recovery at home, I learned alot about ecigs and vaping, anyway my next follow up visit, I told my surgeon that I had quit smoking and was now vaping. He ask a couple questions and told me that the surgery he just performed on me or any doctor could not do anything better for me than for me to quit smoking, didn't care about the non research on ecigs, his only concern was how bad he knew stickies were!! Very proud of me. My primary doctor said about the same think, not that approve but certainly stated much much better than smoking!! I can laugh at jokes now without coughing my brains out and that nasty morning cough is gone!! In a way, I'm glad I had surgery and stopped by this little shop and bought a kit...very overpriced now I know...but did the job!!had no issues using it in the hospital bed however I was discreet and only had one nurse question what I was doing, explained to her I didn't want the patch they ordered for me but brought my on device!! My last visit to the neuro last week, he ask if I were still vaping and I said yes, he told me that he knows for a fact it is better fir me than burning tobacco and totally satisfies me!? I am actually very proud of myself as no one would have though that Hank would ever quit smoking....I enjoyed it in a weird way!!
