Interesting study. It's a shame though that everyone focuses so heavily on nic content. Yes, there is a portion of the population that is mostly driven to smoking by nicotine content, but there are other important factors. When I couldn't get off those last 6 cigarettes after months of
vaping, I looked into alternatives.
At the time I was part of the cigalike crowd so I went APV and 48mg nicquid. The only difference I experienced was too much nicotine for my physiology. I was still vaping constantly, just getting wired more. For me, it wasn't the nicotine my body was seeking but those other minor alkaloids in tobacco. Soon after my 48mg experiment I found snus and the desire to smoke disappeared as well as my constant vaping.
Somehow a 48 year 2-3 PAD habit was reduced to 4-5 portions of snus a day and perhaps 2ml of niquid or WTA liquid a week. I'm part of a segment of the smoking (ex-smoking) public, another portion are those that need some level of nicotine and others that just have the habit of lighting up. Until someone actually studies the smoking population and better understands why people are smoking, it will be difficult to really get people consistently off cigarettes.
