The NH4OH (ammonia) is no big deal, but the H2SO4 (Sulfuric acid) is some highly caustic stuff. It can literally melt flesh off the bone and rubber off the soles of shoes. If that is required to "properly" extract nic from tobacco, then yeah, that is NOT going to be feasible for....really anyone as a DIY process. There has to be a safer method, even if less efficient.

gonna pick on ya for this one..... caustic is for base pH items such as sodium hydroxide ( lye) ... ( pH above 7.0)
( Im gonna blame it on that its been YEARS since you took chemistry ;) )

Getting close to 30 years since I was in a chemistry class so I wanted to double check, but looking at several dictionary sites, they all agree that caustic essentially means "capable of burning, corroding, or destroying living tissue". I can assure you Sulfuric acid can utterly destroy living tissue. I have seen the results of H2SO4 being exposed to human flesh, it isn't pretty.

WARNING GRAPHIC STORY BELOW. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

A friend of mine worked for a lawyer who specialized in worker accident cases. One case was a guy that was offloading H2SO4 from a tanker ship to a truck on the docks. The hose ruptured and completely doused the poor guy. I saw the evidence pictures of his face and arms with areas stripped nearly to the bone, piles melted flesh that had dripped on the docks, and footprints from the melted rubber from the soles of his shoes that were left as he ran toward the emergency showers. They were some of the most gruesome images I have ever seen.
