".....I'm suggesting a gradual movement towards a more euphonious and sensible slang term. ...."

hmmm....

Gee..I'm not really sure how I would design an argument advancing any particular vernacular slang on the premise of consensually sensible euphoniousness. But I'll admit, the thought does seem to evoke a gradual movement deep down in my gut.

So I guess I'll just use my own favorites.... maybe they'll catch on over time.

electronic-cigarette --> elecigar (or sometimes cigelecarette)

nicotine liquid solution --> nicquilution lube

personal vaper inhaler --> sonavinhaler

Don'cha think those are great! They just sound right don't they?:w00t:

;)

There are probably pills you can take for that.

quite a thread to read through, and a host of opinions. its almost like asking what type of oil do i use in my motorcycle ...
mgf/dist will call it whatever the majority of consumers call it. if there is no ban (and i don't think there ever will be), and this become huge business, then marketers will get their hands on it, do their research, and the names of all this stuff may well be changed. if it gets to that point, my money is that 'juice' will go down the drain as a name, as will e-cig, e-smoke, e-anything, for many of the reasons stated in this thread.
i do like the name niquid (dammit!), what if its just called liquid?

Getting up in arms about terminology strikes me as fighting an odd battle. Allow me to present a few examples that are completely ridiculous, but are easily accepted in modern terminology.

Inflammable: Very similar meaning to flammable, even though the in- prefix is usually negatory.
Baby oil: Does it come from babies?
The 'tube': Many modern TVs contain no tubes.
pill(medication): Take your pills? Or did you take caplets, gelcaps, or tablets?
Cordless phone: It has at least 2 cords somewhere.

I do, however, support your right to call it whatever you'd like, but I'm not sure you can convince everyone. Embrace the variety! I'm pretty sure everyone here could figure out what you mean if you were to make a post regarding new flavors of niquid from TastyVapor, and you'll know what I mean when I say I ordered a huge supply of e-juice from MyFreedomSmokes. :)

My money is on "smart-cigarette" or "smart-cig" for short. From that you get "smart-smoke" and I guess "smart-smoke liquid" or "smart-cig liquid".

As far as the proper slang to use on the forums, as long as it eradicates "juice", I'm all for just plain "nic". "Nicquid" or "niquid" is ok too, but I think "juice" currently prevails because it's just one syllable - so if any replacement is gonna stick, it probably needs to be a single syllable too.

P.S. I prefer "niCquid" with a "c" myself - perhaps a poll is in order...

I suggested "niq" as a forum abbreviation earlier.

Damn, I hope these things don't end up being called "smart-cigs" ... if I was a betting man, though, I'd put money on vapes, longterm.

Why is it that the word "niquid" only pulls up 182 references here on the forums, whereas "juice" and "e-juice" are off the charts? What does "e-juice" mean, anyway? "Electronic juice"?

I don't get the popularity of the "juice" slang. I mean, yes, it's only one syllable, but to me, juice is what you get when you squeeze liquid out of a fruit or vegetable. The other connotations are less than savory - anabolic steroids ("juicing up"), and so-on ... and if we want brevity in our Forum-speak, how about "niq"? Short for "niquid", which is short for "nicotine liquid", which is accurate.

:grr:;-)

Here's why the idea (not a bad one) won't likely work:

"....word "niquid" only pulls up 182 references here on the forums, whereas "juice" and "e-juice" are off the charts?"

just saying... :)

What is it called with 0 nicotine? no niquid?

Noquid

I definitely feel that anyone should call it whatever they want. We will understand, (the exception being "nicquilution lube" (sorry)) my point is that i believe niquid is catchy, more accurate, and straight to the point. Juice is very vague, and I just dont like e-liquid.

I prefer to call it an Inhaler, or a vape. I often end up calling it an ecig, just so I dont have to explain myself. I don't feel the need to call it personal, just like I dont call it my personal cellphone, or my personal cigarette. Most things we buy are for personal use, and I don't bother wasting my time with it. Same goes for electronic. I also would rather not call it a nicotine inhaler, as it does add a negative connotation to it in some people's minds.

Being that it is an inhaler, and a vaporizer, I like to stick with those names, with vaporizer being shortened to vape. Inhaler takes the win, considering if I got caught using one in public, and someone inquired, inhaler would take the least explaining and would be the least offensive. I completely agree with you, Harlequin, where calling it a vape works well, since we used to go out for a smoke, or we'd blow smoke. It just sounds funny to say, for instance "I vaped all over the place" or, "I blew vape at her", just because it is new terminology, and vaporizers aren't the most popular thing in todays culture.

But back to the Niquid (dammit!) subject: Call it what you want in your own time, public, or on the forums. It all comes down to personal preferance. There are many items that have different names: Cigarette, Cig, Ciggy, Ret, Smoke, ..., Cancer Stick, and, of course, Analog. It all boils down to what you prefer,or what works best for each individual. No one who uses cigs will be confused if you ask for a smoke or a cancer stick.

What I was trying to convey, and probably what the OP was getting at, is that IMO, niquid is the most efficient and best name for the liquid with nicotine that we place in our vaporizers. I (we) would prefer if everyone called it niquid, so we shared our views and opinions. E-juice or juice isn't wrong. I think that e-juice and juice are wrong.
